Chapter 3

Author: Nameless
Nigel smiled and said.

"You two go. I'm not going." I shook my head and refused right away.

Nigel froze for a moment before asking, "No matter how important something is, you should put it off. Having dinner with Vivian is the most important thing."

"Exactly! If you don't come, then you're not my best friend anymore!" Vivian started acting spoiled.

If this had happened before, I probably would have given in. But now, her words only felt like she was trying to guilt-trip me.

"Forget it. Something came up at home."

I stopped paying attention to them. I turned around, got into my car, and drove straight to the boutique that sold the purse.

"Hello, could you please check if the serial number on this purse is the winning one?"

The employee took the purse and checked the number. Then she smiled. "That's right. Congratulations! You've won the 300,000-dollar prize. Please come with me."

The entire process was finished in less than a minute.

A bank notification appeared on my phone. After taxes were deducted, 270,000 dollars had been deposited into my account.

However, Nigel and Vivian would soon find out about the money.

The store planned to put up a sign outside next week to promote this lucky winner.

So, I immediately contacted a real estate agent and bought the riverside apartment I had wanted for a long time.

I paid for it in full.

After handling everything, I took the property deed home to tell my parents what happened.

They were shocked when they found out Nigel and Vivian had been together for a long time. But they still believed in me and supported whatever I wanted to do.

Right after dinner with my parents, Nigel and Vivian added me to a private group chat with only the three of us.

Vivian sent a voice message with a playful laugh. "Queenie, you didn't come eat fondue with me tonight. I’m going to punish you by making you pay!"

Nigel immediately agreed. "It was only 400 dollars. Just send the money over."

If this had happened before, I probably would have thought friends shouldn't care about small amounts of money. I would have paid without hesitation.

But this time, I didn't reply. I simply went to take a shower and acted like I hadn't seen it.

When I came back after my shower, I saw more than 100 unread messages in the group chat.

Vivian asked. "Queenie, why aren't you saying anything?"

Nigel followed up. "Ten minutes have passed. The restaurant is still waiting for us to pay."

Vivian continued. "Queenie has changed. She doesn't even reply to messages anymore."

The last message was from Nigel. "Queenie, you're being too cheap. Forget it. We'll pay for ourselves."

Only then did I reply. "I just finished taking a shower."

But no one answered me.

Actually, something similar had happened before. Back then, I ended up sending 100 dollars to both Vivian and Nigel before they finally stopped being upset.

Thinking back now, I felt like I had been so foolish.

But this time, I didn't have the energy to comfort them. After feeding Marmalade, I immediately opened my laptop and started working.

I improved the marketing plan and prepared my presentation for Monday's meeting.

Marmalade jumped onto my desk and looked at my screen. Then his thoughts appeared again. "The company cat told me the chairman actually loves cute pets. But he wants to keep his serious image, so he's too embarrassed to show it. He's been hoping someone would create a pet-themed marketing campaign."

I suddenly got an idea.

If that was true, then I should give him exactly what he wanted and add pet-related elements into my marketing plan.

I worked through the entire night.

When morning came, I was finally about to take a break when Nigel called.

"Queenie, you went too far yesterday. You didn't even pay the bill. We were really hurt. Vivian even cried because of it. I heard she saw a necklace at the mall that she really liked. Buy it for her as an apology."

I almost laughed from anger.

He really planned to use my money to support Vivian.

When I came home from work that day, I had just reached the entrance of my apartment building when Vivian suddenly rushed out from the hallway. Her eyes were red, and she looked exhausted. She was completely different from the elegant and confident woman she used to be. She ran toward me and begged loudly."Queenie, please, I'm begging you. Save me, please! The whole internet is attacking me. I lost my job and my friends. I'm completely ruined! This is all Nigel's fault. He was the one who approached me first. He was the one who convinced me to betray you! I was just confused for a moment. I regret it. I'm sorry!"Vivian kept crying, hoping to gain my sympathy.I looked at her coldly. Just as I was about to speak, I suddenly saw Nigel rushing over from the side.He kicked Vivian down and cursed. "You bitch, get lost right now!"Vivian fell to the ground, holding her stomach and crying in pain. But Nigel didn't care about her at all. Instead, he turned to me and desperately explained, "

"Before this, when I won 5,000 dollars from the lottery, I split half of it with her. But now that she won 300,000 dollars, she immediately cut me off and even found an excuse to fire me."Nigel stood beside her, looking heartbroken as he helped her put on the act."I'm Queenie's boyfriend. I used to think the saying, 'The first thing people do after becoming successful is hurt the people who love them,' was just a joke. But now I understand. After Queenie won the prize, she immediately broke up with me. But the purse that won the prize was the one I gave her!"They kept supporting each other, trying their best to make themselves look like victims. People who didn't know the truth quickly followed the crowd and started attacking me online. The news soon reached the company. Jacob and the chairman, David Garcia, came to find me at the same time."Queenie, our huge marketing event is tomorrow. But this online controversy could seriously damage the company's reputation.""What are you pl

Even my parents couldn't help criticizing him.Nigel awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck before saying, "Fine. I don't want any money. Just give Vivian her share.""Queenie, we promised we'd always share happy moments together. Don't forget that. Can you give me 200,000 dollars? If I had won, I definitely would have shared it with you."Vivian immediately tried to guilt-trip me.The two of them kept backing each other up. It didn't matter which one got the money because they were on the same side.I spread my hands and said plainly, "Sorry. I've already spent all of it."Vivian and Nigel stared at me in disbelief. "What did you spend it on?"I smiled calmly. "I bought a house and paid for it in full."They stood there in silence for a few seconds before Vivian completely lost control and screamed. "Why didn't you discuss it with us first?""Yeah! That was so selfish!" Nigel nodded over and over. Before I could even speak, my parents couldn't take it anymore. "When Vivian won 5,000 do

I smiled and said, "I wouldn't dare do that. After all, she's so precious to you."Nigel froze for a second before quickly denying it. "Don't talk nonsense. I only care about her as a friend. Someone as cruel as you doesn't deserve to be my girlfriend, let alone my wife! I hope you take some time to think about what you've done. Call me after you've come to your senses."After saying that, he hung up.I almost laughed.Who was really the cruel one who didn't deserve to be in a relationship? He was describing himself, yet he had the nerve to blame me instead. It was ridiculous. The next morning, the department manager came to see me. "Ms. Sherman, Vivian didn't come to work today. A lot of projects have been delayed because of her. I called her, but she said you have to beg her to come back, or she won't return."After hearing that, I immediately gave my instructions. "Take over Vivian's work yourself. As for everything else, follow company policy. If she's absent without notice for th

"Queenie, why didn't you make me the department manager? We're best friends!"She cried as she spoke.I used to treat Vivian like my little sister. Whenever she cried, my heart would soften. That trick had always worked on me.Now she was doing it again, but all I saw was how fake she was. When Vivian saw that I stayed silent, she became anxious and cried even harder. "Are you still holding a grudge because of the resignation?"I shook my head. "It has nothing to do with that. As the head of this department, I'm responsible for the company. This manager position has to go to someone who has the ability for the job, and you don't.""My performance is one of the best in the department!" Vivian quickly argued.I let out a cold laugh and handed her my phone. "Really? Then read these messages."The color drained from Vivian's face as she looked through them. Every one of them was from clients complaining to me about her.Vivian had never been very capable. She couldn't solve many difficu

The smile disappeared from Vivian's face. She quickly turned toward me, staring at me in shock. The other coworkers were stunned too.I smiled lightly and said, "Thank you, Mr. Livingston, and thank you to the company for trusting me. I'll keep working hard.""Great."Jacob nodded and said, "Everyone, get ready. The meeting starts in one hour."As soon as Jacob left, my coworkers gathered around me."Queenie, didn't you say you were quitting?""Yeah. People in several departments have been talking about it. Everyone said the company would lose a great employee if you left."They all looked completely confused.I raised an eyebrow and asked, "What? Who told you that?"As expected, everyone turned to look at Vivian."Queenie, I saw you go into Mr. Livingston's office with what looked like a resignation letter."Now that her plan had failed, Vivian looked both embarrassed and confused. She couldn't openly show she was upset, so her expression became a mix of emotions. It was almost funny
