I stood between the two warming tables.

The neonatal team worked with efficient quiet on both sides of me. I did not get in the way. I simply stood there, looking at my sons, trying to understand that both of them existed outside of Caelen's body and both of them were all right.

"Both babies are cleared," the lead neonatologist said, stepping back from James's table. "No NICU admission needed. They can go directly to recovery with the parents."
