Emily's POV

I woke up. My head was throbbing. A dull ache behind my eyes that had been going on for days. I had lost count.

The bedroom in the Sterling mansion was enormous. A king-size bed where I slept alone. Heavy curtains that blocked out the New York sun. A vanity table with a mirror that showed me a woman I barely recognized.

Pale skin. Dark circles. Hair longer than I remembered.

And the belly.

I placed my hand on the curve beneath the silk nightgown. The bump was there. Impossible to ig

Arthur's POV"Let go of my wife, Arthur." His voice came out trembling. Full of barely contained rage. His hands were shaking, his fists clenched, his knuckles growing whiter by the second.I didn't let go.I squeezed harder. I felt Vivienne's thin bones under my fingers. Cold skin. Racing pulse. She groaned, a low sound that escaped through her clenched teeth. Her blue eyes widened. Her face pale. Her mask had completely fallen."Your wife?" I looked at Peterson. My dark eyes met his. "She's my wife in the eyes of everyone, Peterson. Unfortunately. And she always will be until the day I say otherwise. No matter what you two did. No matter how many times you touched her. She still has my name.""You've completely lost your mind..." Vivienne tried to say. Her voice failed in the middle. Her breathing became short, ragged."Shut your damn mouth, you whore!" I didn't look at her. I kept looking at Peterson. His eyes were fixed on my hand, on the way my fingers wrapped around her wrist.I

Arthur's POVThe phone was still in my hand. The dial tone had just stopped. I had just called Emily. I had just heard her voice. And then Marcus. He was there. With her.I was about to say something. About to warn her. About to tell her to get out of that place. But the call had already been disconnected. The door opened.Vivienne walked in like she owned the room. Her heels clicked on the floor. Each step filling the silence of the office.A black dress that hugged her curves. Her blonde hair pulled back in a tight bun, so tight it pulled at the skin of her temples.Diamond earrings catching the light. Her red lips curved in a smile that didn't reach her eyes."Well, well, well."Her voice in a whisper. The kind of voice that seemed soft, but hid a blade. My hand tightened on the phone. My knuckles turned white. I hung up the call. Slowly. Deliberately. So she wouldn't notice."Arthur." She walked around the desk. Her fingers slid over the polished wood. The sound of her nails again

Emily's POVMarcus's arms were still around me. Warm. Heavy. Possessive. I felt his breath on my neck, his unshaven beard brushing against my skin, each warm and uneven exhale against the back of my neck. His heart was still beating against my back. Fast. Erratic. As if he had run a marathon to get to me.Chloe remained motionless near the window. Her green eyes wide, her mouth slightly open. Her red dress contrasted with the brutal shock of that scene. She didn't know what to do with her hands. First they hung by her sides. Then crossed over her chest. Then hanging again.I didn't know what to do either. Not with Marcus there, his arms around me, his smell invading my nostrils. But then something changed inside me.It wasn't anger. It wasn't fear. It was something else. A voice that came from somewhere deep, buried, that I didn't even know existed. A voice that didn't ask for permission.A voice that had already decided what I was going to do before I even understood what was happeni

Hair longer than I remembered. And the belly.I placed my hand on the curve beneath the silk nightgown. The bump was there. Impossible to ignore now. Three months. Almost four. The doctors said the baby was growing normally, despite the scare in Tokyo.Three weeks.Three weeks since the hospital. Three weeks since Arthur had punched his son in the chest.Three weeks since I had lied to Marcus's face and said I had asked Arthur to stay. Three weeks since the kiss in the hospital room. That quick, light kiss that still burned on my lips.I sat up slowly. The room spun for a second. Then stopped.A tray with coffee and toast was on the

  • The Contract That Put Me in His Father's Bed   Chapter 78 [The Shock]

Arthur's POV The shock in Marcus's voice was clear. "Before I fainted..." Emily swallowed hard. Her throat moved. Her eyes filled with tears. "I asked him not to leave." The tears began to fall. First one. Then another. They ran down her pale face. Down her cheeks. Reached her chin. She didn't wipe them away. Didn't look away. "I was afraid of you, Marcus. I was alone here with all of this, with people I don't know, surrounded by cameras and you pressuring me. And your father was the only person who..." "Don't say anything else." Marcus's voice came out different. Sharp as a knife. Cutting like breaking glass. "Marcus..." Emily reached her hand toward him. Her fingers trembled. "I said enough!" He turned around. The movement was abrupt. Fast. His shoulders spun. His feet hit the floor. His footsteps echoed through the room: heavy, fast, full of a rage he didn't know where to put. He stopped at the door. His right hand went up to the doorknob. His fingers grabbed the metal.

  • The Contract That Put Me in His Father's Bed   Chapter 77 [The Thin Line]

Arthur's POV"Am I not your son? Then why are you here? Why haven't you left? Why are you protecting my wife as if she were yours?"My son's question cut sharply through the air.I felt every word like a blow. Not because they hurt me. But because I could see the pain behind them.Marcus stood in the middle of the hospital room. His chest was rising and falling too fast. His breathing was uncontrolled. His blue eyes were shining. But it wasn't just anger. It was abandonment. It was the certainty that no one stayed. It was the fear of being left behind. Again. His jaw was trembling. His teeth were clenched so tightly that I could see the muscle jumping at the corner of his face. His fists were clenched at his sides. His knuckles white. The veins bulging in his forearms. My son wasn't just angry. My son was lost.I didn't answer right away.I turned my face to Emily. She was sitting on the bed. Her eyes were wide, so wide you could see the white around her irises. Her face was pale. Too
