Chapter 2

Autor: Fall for One
She instinctively took a step back, a flash of disgust in her eyes.

“Disgusting…You're repulsive.”

She played with her freshly done nails.

“I’ve changed my mind. Watching you eat is sickening. Wait until the family’s lawyer arrives and sign the liability waiver. Only then can you leave.”

My mouth was overflowing with blood as I glared at her intently.

I didn't scream, nor did I shout insults.

At my wits' end, I knew very well that as long as she stood there unharmed and issuing orders, the doctors outside would never get in.

My baby couldn't wait for any lawyer. For the sake of my child, I had to create absolute chaos to tear open this fatal roadblock, even if it meant dying together.

A surge of desperate strength suddenly erupted from deep inside me.

In a split second, I broke free from the henchmen holding me down and lunged at Sophia and bit down hard on her ear. The metallic taste of blood instantly exploded in my mouth.

Sophia let out a blood-curdling scream.

“Ah! My ear! Get this lunatic off me! Quick!”

Three henchmen swarmed forward at once.

As they slammed their gun stocks heavily against my back, it felt as though my spine had shattered.

Yet I didn't utter a single sound. Instead, I used the momentum to curl into a ball, shielding my lower abdomen beneath me. No matter how savagely they beat me, I refused to let go of the hands protecting my belly.

I was pinned tightly against the cold snow.

One man drew a tactical military knife and aimed it straight at the Achilles tendon in my right leg.

“You’re dead, hurting Miss Sophia like that.”

Just as the blade was about to sever my tendon, an out-of-control heavy snowplow roared as it plowed straight into the scene. It crashed directly into two of the black SUVs blocking the road, flipping them over.

A bearded military veteran jumped out of the driver's cab. Holding a shotgun, he opened fire straight at the henchmen.

The blast of the shotgun forced Brett’s henchmen to scramble for cover.

The veteran roared at the top of his lungs, “Medical team! Get in there now!”

The chaos I had started, combined with the veteran's gunfire, completely ignited the crowd’s fury. Enraged civilians grabbed bricks and snowballs, pelting the armed men in black, and the perimeter line was forcefully torn open.

Two paramedics rushed in, dragging a stretcher behind them. They kneeled in the snow and quickly checked my condition.

“Severe hemorrhaging! Third-trimester trauma—we might lose the baby! Get her on the stretcher and start IV fluids immediately!”

I lay weakly beside the stretcher, the wrenching pain in my abdomen nearly tearing me apart as the blood beneath me flowed faster and faster. I didn't even have the strength left to lift a hand, so I could only tilt my head up, my blood-stained lips trembling faintly.

“Doctor… Save... save my child...”

Even though my voice was as faint as a whisper, I kept my eyes locked on theirs, silently pleading for help.

The paramedic’s eyes filled with tears as they hoisted me onto the ambulance.

“Don't talk! Save your strength! We need to get you to hospital immediately!”

My consciousness wavered as I finally lost the last bit of my strength.

The paramedic bellowed frantically into his radio, “Notify Sacred Heart Hospital to prepare the OB-GYN emergency operating room immediately! Assemble blood reserves from the blood bank!

“Move, move, move!”

Ten minutes later, the ambulance slammed on its brakes and screeched to a halt outside the emergency room entrance of Sacred Heart Hospital.

However, the doors were tightly shut.

Not a single nurse pushing a crash cart came out to meet us, and behind the glass doors of the ER, men in black suits stood in a line.

The paramedic kicked open the ambulance door and screamed at the people inside.

“Open the door! The pregnant woman is severely hemorrhaging and having a miscarriage! Any more delay and both of them will die!”

  • The Cost of His Betrayal   Chapter 10

Though he survived, Brett was mentally and physically hollowed out.I heard he built a crude wooden shack and moved right next to the cemetery. Rain or shine, he spent his days by our baby's tombstone. The mafia empire that once ruled the city collapsed overnight. Without Brett’s terrifying presence to hold it together, rival families rapidly carved up his turf. Some rivals even went to the cemetery looking for him, wanting to take his head as a trophy. But seeing him in that pathetic state, they lost all interest in pulling the trigger. Bored street thugs even tried to humiliate him by spitting on the tombstone right in front of his face.If this were the past, that man would have been chopped up and fed to the dogs. Now, Brett merely wiped the tombstone clean with his shirt, taking their fists and kicks without uttering a single word.He believed he deserved every blow and was using this brutal self-torture to ease the unbearable guilt crushing his heart. But I knew better. He

In the end, I took a taxi to Sacred Heart Hospital—not to save him, but to watch him face his penance. When I reached the ER lobby, those familiar glass doors were still there. Only this time, no men were locking it down. Just a group of healthcare workers stood there, their faces pale with terror.I pushed open the operating room door, and the pungent, metallic stench of blood hit me instantly.Brett was tied to the operating table. His torso was bare, marred by a deep, jagged puncture wound across his abdomen, blood constantly gushing out.Several surgeons stood holding hemostats but didn't dare step forward. Because Brett was holding a scalpel, pressing it straight against his own neck.“If anyone comes closer, I'll die right here,” he growled. Drenched in cold sweat, his face was as pale as paper. As I walked in, his unfocused eyes suddenly lit up, only to dim just as quickly.“Erin, you came.”A grim, twisted smile broke across his face. “You're finally willing to come see

As I turned around and walked toward the gate, Brett immediately rushed forward to meet me. He held a thick envelope, his voice terrifyingly raspy.“Erin, these are all the assets, trust funds, and several overseas estates in my name. They've all been transferred to you.“Take this money, leave this city, and go wherever you want.” He held the envelope out in front of me, his hands trembling violently.“I know you don't want to see me. But just take it... please. Let me do this much.”I didn't take it, nor did I knock it to the ground. I just stared quietly at the file, finding the whole thing absurd.“Do you think giving me these things will take away any of the pain from losing my baby?” My voice was quiet, yet every word bled with sorrow. The bodyguards watched us nervously, but Brett glared at them so fiercely that they backed down instantly.“I don't want it.”I looked past the envelope, my eyes fixed on his.“I'm staying right here to watch you. I want to see how you, a

The cold-blooded tyrant who made other mafia families tremble in fear was now bowing his head, as humble and broken as a child who had done something unforgivable. But he didn't understand. After losing her baby, a mother no longer cared about life or death.“Brett, as I lay bleeding on those cold steps, I thought back to seven years ago.” I stared at him with hollow eyes.“You took three bullets to the gut back then, and I stayed by your side for three whole days. When you woke up, you promised nothing would ever touch me or our baby.“You kept your word. Outsiders really couldn't touch us.”I looked at him, tears finally slipping down my face without a sound. “Because the one who killed our baby was you.”In agonizing pain, Brett clutched his head as his knees sank back into the freezing snow. He slammed his fists into the hard ground again and again, his knuckles quickly turning into a bloody, mangled mess.“I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry… I really didn't know it was you two… I

He looked at my mouth, covered in blood and split lips. Then, his gaze drifted to my twisted, broken right leg and the dark red blood soaking through the hem of my coat.“What happened to your leg? And why's your mouth covered in blood?” His voice shook violently as he reached out a hand, trying to touch me.I turned my head away calmly, dodging his touch.“To calm your Sophia down, they forced me to eat all the broken glass off the ground,” I said in a light, nonchalant tone, as if I were telling someone else's story.“I thought if I just ate it, the doctors would be allowed out to save my baby… Brett, I did everything they asked, but you still didn't let them out.”Brett's eyes welled up with tears. Guilt tore through him, choking out whatever composure he had left.He threw his head back, letting out a roar of absolute despair before drawing his sidearm from his waist. Turning around, he faced the henchmen who had blocked me.A rapid succession of gunshots rang out. Before t

“Erin, what on earth happened?! You're pregnant—why are you here?!”I finally raised my head and looked at this man, the one I had once loved to my very core. The excruciating pain and blood loss had drained every ounce of strength from my body, leaving nothing inside my heart but emptiness.“Why am I here?” The corners of my pale lips twitched upward into a faint, bitter smile.“Brett, wasn't it you who personally gave the order to seal off that entire street?”I swallowed the coppery taste of blood in my throat, my voice eerily calm as I spoke.“I went out shopping, and Sophia’s car ran into me. I wouldn't stop bleeding.“I called you for help, begging you to tell the hospital to open its doors and save our baby. But you were too busy fussing over her minor scratches.“Your henchmen told me through that glass door that if anyone dared to bother you, their whole family would be thrown into the ocean.”Every drop of color drained from Brett’s face.“No… I didn't know… Sophia
