-Mina-

I stepped forward, opening the door. “Frankie, it is 3 in the morning. What are you doing here? Actually, how do you know where I live?” He stood there, waiting for me to let him in, which I didn’t do. “What do you want?” I asked again, hoping to sound serious. The truth was, the dreams had me off guard, and his showing up did not help the cause.

“I,” he stopped, rubbing his hair, the same way he did in school when he got nervous over something. “Spit it out, I was trying to sleep.” “I wanted to apologize again and talk to you alone.” I sighed, loud enough to let him know I was not forgiving him anytime soon. “I guess you can come in, you still didn’t answer the other question, how do you know where I live, did your brother tell you?” He laughed as he stepped past me, “Something like that.”

I didn’t respond. I just watched as he made himself comfortable in my living room. “I did want to talk to you, on a serious and not fucked up note.” Spot walked up to him, still growling

  • The Cost of Saving Him   Feels Like a Dream

-Mina- It started with kissing, then he lay me back, and started kissing my neck. “At least you won’t have to worry about him,” I said as he pulled my shirt off. “I never was. I made the mistake of letting you get away the first time. I won’t do that again.” He smiled, kissing me again. He grabbed my waist, pulling me closer to him. “I waited a long time and hoped for moments like this.” He kissed me, pinning me under him. I grabbed the end of his shirt and lifted it over his head. “I find that hard to believe.” I let out a small laugh, “Let me show you, again.” He said as he kissed my chest, he tugged at my bra, releasing the hooks on the back. He traced my breast with his mouth, kissing as he moved to the other one. “I love that you haven’t changed.” He said, kissing my stomach. I let out a moan as he brushed his fingers across my stomach. He stood, pulling his pants down, shutting the door behind him. I watched as he turned and pulled me towards the edge of the bed. “These need

  • The Cost of Saving Him   Moving On

-Mina- Corey and I talked until Frankie got back. I never told him what Luciano had said. It would set Corey off. He was the brother I never had, the one dad swore I needed sometimes. Frankie walked in and smiled, both hands full of bags. “What all did you get, jeez man?” Corey laughed, walking up to him to help. They walked back to the pantry, and Corey stopped, “Wait, where is the door?” I laughed, moving the shelf. “Holy shit. You mean to tell me it was there this whole time?” I nodded, and we walked upstairs. Once we got inside, Corey walked around checking the place out, “Whoa, these books, Mina.” He came out with a book about sculpting. “That’s what I said.” I smiled. I wish Lola were here to share the same excitement. Then another painful bit of reality hit. I wasn’t worth the risk. Maybe that’s why so much happens to me, all the time. I sat down and watched as Frankie pulled stuff out of bags, “I got everything you could think of, honestly. And some other things, I hope th

  • The Cost of Saving Him   Not Worth It

-Mina- We got to the bar and we walked to the door. “Spot watch her back for me, buddy.” Frankie opened the door and went inside. He was gone for a few minutes before returning and waving me inside. I sighed. Spot looked up at me and waited for me to move, “Come on, boy.”I walked inside, walked straight to the bar, “The only thing I didn’t put upstairs was some of this.” Holding up the bottle of whiskey I had grabbed from the shelf. I turned around and watched as Frankie locked the door, closed the blinds. “If you need anything else, we can come back down when Corey comes in for his shift.” I nodded. That sounded like a good plan to me. Frankie walked up to me and Spot, “So how do we get to this room up top?” I laughed, “Follow me.” We walked through the kitchen to the pantry, where I moved a shelf that blocked a door. “It is hidden some, I wouldn’t have thought this shelf wasn’t heavy, the way it looks.” I laughed, opening the door. “I said the same thing when I found it.” I alwa

  • The Cost of Saving Him   The Room Above

-Mina- Once we got back to my flat, Frankie cut the car off, and we sat in silence for a few moments. My leg was still warm from where his hand was. “Well, I am not leaving any time soon. I can stay out here-” I cut Frankie off. “No, you can come inside. If it isn’t safe, you shouldn’t be out here alone.” He looked at me, his expression was not serious, but he wasn’t smiling. “Honestly, if I come in, I won’t want to keep my hands off you, and I know he has surveillance in there.” I looked down at my hands. He had a point. That would be one way to get the drama started early. “Just take them down. I don’t want them in there anyway.” He let out a small chuckle. I never lifted my head, just kept staring at my hands. I know I was practically inviting him inside and giving him the green light, but in reality, I don’t need or want the camera. “I thank him for the thought, but I don’t want that kind of help. It’s too invasive.” I looked at Frankie, who was smiling, “I can do that for you

  • The Cost of Saving Him   Keeping Distance

-Luciano- It has been a few days since the attack, a few days of silence. Tony was running shit for me, Eno, and I watched. Tony expressed his concern about how things were happening when Eno stepped around, when he started ‘disappearing’ months before the news of Tommy being a rat came out.I asked why he said nothing. Tony figured it was health issues, or maybe he and his wife were having problems, but now. He questioned the timing of this unknown family attacking me in my home, where they somehow avoided Max and the alarms. “I would hope I am wrong, but boss. There are too many things to worry about now, too much got out with just Tommy alone.” I looked at Tony, waiting to see any hesitation, and when I saw none, I stood. “Well, you know what to do. So does Max. Tomorrow, we will bring Frankie and Joey into it.” If Eno left any trail, Joey would know. Frankie can deal with the rest of it with Tony. “I’m going to sleep. I feel like shit.” Tony nodded. “See you in a few.” I walke

  • The Cost of Saving Him   The Threat

-Luciano- When he stabbed me, I froze, and so did time. For a second, I thought this was it. I was hit. But just as he whispered, Mina and my family were next, Max, being the monster I raised him to be. Jumped on him, ripping his throat to shreds. Tony and Eno kept shooting. The intruders were horrified as they watched Max mauled their buddy, leaving the best window to injure or kill most of them. Within moments, the house was cleared out, and blood stained the kitchen and hallway. Eno ran and grabbed the emergency kit, cleaned and patched me up. “What do you want us to do now, boss?” Tony walked up, the soldiers in tow. “Do a perimeter sweep, call and check with Frankie and Joey. Make sure they are safe.”Max walked up to me, head low, “What’s wrong, man?” I rubbed his back where I noticed a lump. “Them assholes got you, huh?” I moved his fur around to check for any wounds when I suddenly got dizzy. I started to collapse when Tony grabbed me, “Whoa, boss. You need to rest.” I shoo
