Chapter 2 Things Have Changed

My mind went blank. He married me and slept with my best friend, and he didn't think this was an affair? My hand trembled, and my heart ached.

"But we've already done it before we got married. You…"

He drawled, "You did that willingly." With that, he hung up.

Every word he said pierced my chest like a barrage of knives. That explained why Zack had the lipstick Noelle left. That explained why he remembered her shoe size, and that was why she knew the size of his underwear.

Something was stuck in my throat.

I wanted to spit it out, but it wouldn't move. I used to think the tattoo on my chest was the symbol of the greatest happiness I had, but now it was an eyesore.

I made an appointment to have the tattoo removed, and I woke up early the next morning. I ran into Noelle on my way to the tattoo parlor.

She came and held my hand. "I didn't mean to lie to you. It was a drunken mistake. Zack is still yours, and I won't steal him."

Hearing that, I slapped her. "He's a worthless man. Take him."

Zack stepped ahead and shoved me away, then pulled the sobbing Noelle into his arms. He glared at me coldly. "This is between you and me. Why are you going after Noelle? You'd have died if it weren't for her taking you to the hospital."

His eyes were filled with scorn. "She's been suffering all these years to make sure you don't. All I want is for her to show her love openly. There's nothing wrong with that."

I froze up like a statue. We were together for six years. He cheated on me with my best friend for half of that, and they even had a child together.

I was the victim, but they had the gall to demand answers from me. How absurd. I stared at the bastard, my eyes red.

After I was betrayed by my ex-boyfriend, I developed a phobia of marriage. He wanted to give me security, so he signed a prenup that said he would leave with nothing if we ever got a divorce.

All I had to do was sign it, and it was legally binding.

Now, he was pushing me into a corner for another woman. That prenup happened three years ago, so he probably forgot about it.

I was nearing a breakdown. "If you love her so much, why aren't you marrying her? I know. Because she's barren!" I screamed my heart out, but all I gained in return was his disgust.

He took the wedding ring off and threw it in my face. "That's nonsense! This is between you and me! Don't hurt her! You have a vile mouth, and no wonder your ex cheated. Noelle shouldn't have saved you. She should've let you rot instead!"

I stood there, frozen. The ring cut across the corner of my eye, and pain flared as blood spilled.

I quickly went to a nearby clinic to get a band-aid, for I had coagulopathy. For the first three years we were together, he protected me like I was fragile.

He refused to let me touch anything that could wound me. I should've known he wasn't the man I knew the moment he wanted me to get that tattoo. I was stupid.

I held the bleeding wound, and my tears still wouldn't stop. A long while later, I smiled bitterly. "You did nothing wrong."

I clenched my teeth. "Let's get a divorce."

Zack was stunned.
