Chapter 3 It's Clear Now

Author: Musia
Zack didn't think I would bring it up again. He tugged on his tie and said nonchalantly, "Whatever."

I turned around, but he stopped me. "I don't want you bothering Noelle again. She did nothing wrong."

"Sure," I answered without hesitation.

My overly calm answer raised some suspicion inside Zack, but he said nothing. He and Noelle left without even turning back once.

I went to the tattoo parlor to wash off that humiliating mark.

Agony swept across my body, and tears kept spilling. I couldn't tell which was more painful: the tattoo getting washed off, or my heart.

Yet, I clenched my teeth and swallowed the indignity. Three hours went by, and I had no strength left. I went home to pack.

The home I made myself was now a cold tomb.

I ran into Zack, who had just returned. I noticed the hickeys on his neck. Though I knew the truth now, they were still an eyesore.

He stared at me and took a deep breath. "Wendy, my mom wants us to have a baby." He pulled me into his embrace. "Don't worry, I won't let Noelle bother you. I'm still your husband as long as you want me to be, and you'll be my only wife."

The place where the tattoo once sat was throbbing. I pushed him away. "No. From now on, we're done."

His eyes fell upon my chest, and he frowned. "You erased the tattoo?" He grasped my wrist. "You have coagulopathy. You could've got yourself killed."

Sadness filled my heart. "First time finding out, huh?"

The bandage at the corner of my eye was visible. After I got the tattoo, I was sent to the hospital because the bleeding couldn't be controlled.

When I went back, there was a piece of underwear in Noelle's size on the tattoo bed. I thought she tossed this around like she usually did, so I shrugged it off.

With the truth laid out, I realized they must've been having fun while I was facing death.

Zack was stunned. "Noelle stayed by my side without asking for anything, and she even lost her child, so it's the least I can do for her."

So they betrayed me together. That woman slept with my fiance and got pregnant with his child.

"If there's an ounce of conscience left in you, you'll let me go."

He looked downward and handed me a card. "If you're that brokenhearted, go on a trip. We'll try for a baby once you're back."

This was absurd, so I ignored him. All I wanted was to leave this suffocating place.

I went into the bedroom, but Noelle was in the bed, wearing the pajamas I bought for our first night as husband and wife.

He came to my side and held my hand. "Sorry, but she's with me now, so stay respectful."I linked my arm with Shawn. "This is Moore Group's president, Shawn Moore. He's also my fiance."Zack charged like a madman and grabbed my hand. "You're lying! This is a lie, isn't it? You're lying! You loved me too much to fall for another man! This isn't true!"His screams only amused me further. When I used to love him, all he did was hurt me. Now that I'd made another choice, he pretended to be a man in love. How disgusting.I sneered. "In that case, I'll prove it isn't a lie."I stood on tiptoes and made out with Shawn passionately. That agitated him enough to push him over the edge. "Wendy!" He grabbed my arm and yanked me away like a man possessed by something.I looked at him coldly. "I was kissing my love, sir. How rude of you.""No!" Zack retorted. "You're my love! You're my wife! How could you kiss another man?"I laughed. "You slept with another woman when we were married. All

Noelle was stunned as well. She wasn't expecting me to expose her. Then again, she was my best friend, so I knew all about her dirty secrets.Noelle didn't have the courage to own it. "It's all fake. You're the only one I love, Zack." Then she pretended to realize something. "It must be Wendy's revenge. You can't trust her!"Shawn went and handed Zack a piece of paper. "Wendy wanted you to have this. Read it."Since it was something from me, Zack opened it up immediately, but after seeing what was written inside, he froze. It was a diagnosis—he was sterile.I didn't say no to sleeping with him because I thought of myself as a puritan, but I was worried he might feel self-conscious after the fact. I was going to take the fall and claim I was barren after we got married. Now, I didn't have to take responsibility for someone else's problem. Noelle noticed the look on Zack's face, and she snatched the paper. When she saw the diagnosis, she froze. "What? You can't be sterile!"Zack'

"And she accepted them."Shawn smiled. "That she did. And she was hospitalized for pollen allergy."He gave Zack a once-over. "I bet you never gave her flowers after that, or else she would've told you about her allergy."Zack was stunned, and he walked out of the ward, his mind blank. He ran into Noelle in the corridor, and the sight of the roses brought a smile to Noelle's face. Happily, she took the bouquet. "You got me flowers. Thank you."Her smile was an eyesore for Zack. After all, she was the one who picked those flowers for the proposal. He impatiently snatched the flowers back. "These are for Wendy."Noelle smiled as if she had seen through everything. "Everyone knows Wendy's allergic to pollen. You'd never give her flowers."Zack sneered. Now, he knew Noelle had ulterior motives from the start. Disgust filled his eyes. He hissed, "I didn't know she's allergic to pollen."She froze and realized she'd let it slip. He stared at her. "I give her flowers every anniv

I gave him an appreciative look and said hoarsely, "Thanks."He smiled. "If I knew this would've happened, I never would've let him take you."I smiled bitterly but said nothing, though mixed emotions churned inside me. I used to be the school belle, and I had scores of suitors, yet I picked Zack in the end. He was the guy who turned my life into a complete joke over six years. This was fate, perhaps. I went through the paperwork for getting discharged that day. When I went by Noelle's ward, I saw, through the window, that she was lying in Zack's embrace."I love you, Zack. Please don't leave me." Her eyes were filled with tears, as if she were a bunny that was about to be abandoned. Zack felt bad for her."I won't ever abandon you. I'll talk to Wendy and convince her to accept you, but promise me you'll never mess with her. She is my wife, after all."Noelle sulked for not being his first choice. "But I…""Noelle!" Zack interrupted her. "I want you to respect her. Only then w

Zack summoned his assistant and handed Noelle over to him. Her cheeks were swollen. "Take her to the hospital. Wendy's hurt, and she has coagulopathy."Noelle refused to let him go. She had always thought herself better than me. Noelle held his arm. "It hurts, Zack. My face…" She started to sob. "Is it going to be ruined?"Zack pulled her into his embrace. "It won't, Noelle. Don't worry. Listen, she needs me more than you do now. We promised that you'd be my girlfriend, but Wendy will always be the wife."Noelle thought that was a joke, but he was serious. "But Zack, I…"Before she could finish, I was moved onto a gurney. He got into the ambulance with me, offering not even a glance for Noelle.…Later, the sharp stench of alcohol woke me up. My throat felt like it was filled with glass, and I tried to get the mug off the table. However, I had no strength left. The mug fell to the ground and shattered.Zack just came back with food. He noticed the mess on the ground and quick

She was surprised to see me. "You're back, Wendy."I wanted to ignore her, but I couldn't. Not after hearing that. "This is my home. I don't remember having to ask for your permission just to come home."Noelle realized that was the wrong question to ask, and she smiled awkwardly. "That's not what I meant. I…"I interrupted, "You were so thirsty, you stole your best friend's fiance? What a bitch."Noelle said nothing. She covered her mouth and ran out, bumping into Zack."Noelle?"Noelle was tearful. "I wanted to surprise you, but I didn't expect Wendy to come home. She's right. I did steal you away. I'm a bitch. You're married to her, so don't waste any time on me. I can't give you any children. You should stay with Wendy."She wanted to leave, but Zack stopped her. He charged into the bedroom and grabbed my wrist. "What do you even want? If you hadn't kept rejecting me these past few years, would I have cheated on you?"He added, "Oh, and you weren't drunk during last yea
