Chapter 3

Author: Little Fire Dragon
But Nigel had changed drastically.

He had started to doubt me. The person he trusted completely had changed into someone else.

I hid how disappointed I felt and just looked down.

“Okay.”

Nigel finally relaxed. He stepped closer and hugged me.

“I know you’re acting like this because you love me. It’s alright.

“I’ve planned a welcome party for you. Go get ready. We’ll head out soon.”

I followed him. At the welcome party, I was well-dressed.

Word had already spread that Nigel’s crush was back, and people were curious to see the woman he had loved for so many years.

I stayed close to Nigel and smiled gently.

One by one, people came to congratulate him.

“Mr. Jefferson, congratulations! You finally got back the woman you love most!”

Someone even joked, “Now we see the difference. The real one is way more beautiful than all those lookalikes.”

Nigel’s face turned serious. “Don’t talk like that in front of Olivia.”

He turned to me and gently said, “Don’t mind them. See? Everyone knows how much I love you.”

I smiled politely and kept quiet.

But just then, another woman walked in. She looked a lot like me.

I knew who she was right away. Her name was Fiona Lane, the second lookalike Nigel kept around.

She walked onto the stage and sat down at the piano.

“Welcome back, Olivia. Since today is such a happy occasion, let me play a song for you and Mr. Jefferson.”

With that, she started playing. Soft, beautiful music filled the hall.

As I watched Fiona’s fingers dance over the keys, the familiar tune brought back memories.

Back in college, when Nigel and I first met, he was sitting in the audience while I played this exact song, Moonlight Variation.

After that, he always wanted me to play it for him.

“Every time I hear it, it reminds me of the moment I first saw you and instantly fell in love.”

It became our love song.

I could still remember how amazed Nigel looked when he watched me play the piano.

I turned to look at Nigel. He was completely focused on Fiona. The person who amazed him was no longer me.

I looked at my hands. They were rough from years of hard work.

My heart sank.

When the music ended, Fiona came over and handed me a glass of wine.

“When I was with Mr. Jefferson, people said I only got to stay because I looked like you.

“They thought they were insulting me, but honestly, looking like you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Her meaning was clear.

Nigel’s expression instantly darkened.

“Who permitted you to talk like that here? Get out.”

He was not nice to Fiona at all.

After telling someone to take her away, he hugged me tightly.

“Fiona’s fresh out of school. She doesn’t understand how things work. If she upset you, don’t take it to heart.”

Even then, he was still defending her.

He took me around the party and let them all compliment me.

He seemed so happy, and I did not want to ruin it.

That night, he held me in his arms and gently laid me on the bed.

“Olivia, there were so many nights I couldn’t sleep because I missed you so much.”

After more than ten hours, I landed safely.Blake sent me some videos using an untraceable number. When I watched them, I saw Nigel’s reaction after hearing I had “died” in the fire.He was hugging the charred remains and crying like he was in deep pain.“Olivia, I just got you back. Why did you leave me again?”Because we made the fire look like a gas leak accident, Nigel truly believed I had suddenly died.He blamed himself and cried hard.“This is all my fault. I treated you so badly. You were too weak to escape the fire.“I was wrong. I’m sorry, Olivia.”He kept saying sorry and felt horrible. In the videos, he cried a lot and held onto my remains without letting go.He knelt at the place where the fire had happened and talked about our past.“I remember the first time I saw you play the piano. You looked like an angel.“I was wrong. I wanted to make it right with the biggest wedding ever.“Fiona and Jora could never compare to you.”Every time he said my name, he cr

“If you can forgive my mom, why can’t you forgive me?”He may have accepted my ugly face, but I could no longer accept him.I did not say anything. At Blake’s gentle request, I quietly drank the soup.Seeing that I was not being cold anymore, Nigel said, “I’m planning a big wedding soon. I want the whole world to know I’m marrying you.“Once you’re out of the hospital, let’s go try on wedding dresses and take photos together, okay?”He did not realize I had already made my decision.I replied casually, “Let’s talk about it after I get better.”Nigel thought I was saying yes and happily rushed off to start planning the wedding. But Blake could see the truth. She asked sadly, “You’re still planning to leave, aren’t you?”I nodded.“Mrs. Jefferson, please help me disappear completely this time. Let Nigel think I’m really gone.“Don’t worry. He won’t stay stuck on me forever. Eventually, he’ll find another woman who makes him happy.”I then told her what I discovered while lock

When Blake gave Nigel the solid proof, he turned on Jora and Fiona just as fast as he had turned on me.While I was still trying to make sense of everything, the bodyguards outside brought Jora and Fiona into the room. They looked completely different from their usual polished selves. Their hair was messy. They dropped to their knees in front of me and kept bowing.“Olivia, we were wrong. We were jealous and wanted to take your place. It’s all our fault.”“We shouldn’t have blamed you, and I shouldn’t have tried to starve you by giving you disgusting food.”Jora was clearly hurt. She was terrified and kept pleading, “Please, we know Mr. Jefferson listens to you. Help us. Please ask him to let us go.”Looking at them, I did not feel happy at all. I just felt sad.“Nigel, you used to love them. Seeing them like this makes me wonder if that’s how I’ll end up as well.”Nigel shook his head quickly. “No! You’re not like them at all. You’re the only one. No one compares to you.”

“When you’re ready to tell me the truth, maybe I’ll let you out!”I pounded on the door in fear. “Nigel, you’ve lost your mind!”But he completely ignored me.Even when Blake tried to stop him and begged him to calm down, he refused to listen.I overheard him telling the maid, “Only give her one meal a day. Let her starve until she talks.”Blake was terrified.“Nigel, if you keep doing this, she could really get hurt!”Nigel just sneered.“Didn’t you want her gone before? Why are you defending her now?“Get in my way again, and I’ll treat you just like her.”Nigel’s actions made my heart turn cold. All I wanted was to leave. But I was locked in, with no way to contact anyone or get help. I could not escape even if I tried.Seeing Nigel treated me harshly, Jora was overjoyed. She took over the maid’s job and brought me food herself. But every time, it was spoiled leftovers that smelled like awful garbage.“Look at you now. Once the woman he adored, but now, you’re noth

To my surprise, Blake, the woman who used to hate me, held my hand and sighed.“After all these years watching the women around Nigel, I finally see that you’re the one who truly suits him.“You’re kind, down-to-earth, not materialistic, and you’ve always loved Nigel. You were willing to leave for him, and now, you’ve come back for him. That really touched me.“Also, since you returned, Fiona willingly gave up her baby. Honestly, that made me feel relieved.”Blake never liked the women Nigel found in nightclubs. So to her, this outcome was a bonus. She patted my shoulder and said, “I’ll explain everything to Nigel. If there’s still a chance, I hope you two can end up together.”She told me that Fiona had gone as far as losing her baby just to frame me. That showed how cruel she really was.“You need to be extra careful from now on. Who knows what she’ll try next.”Blake said she had already moved my mom to the best hospital. She paid off the medical bills and even set aside a

Nigel took a deep breath and stood next to me.“I know Olivia. She’s not the type of person who would ever do anything so cruel. “Fiona has always been in poor health. She was likely to miscarry, anyway. This has nothing to do with Olivia.”He walked me out of the hospital room and gave me a strange look. For a moment, I felt touched. I thought Nigel still cared like he used to.But as soon as we were alone, his expression changed completely. He cornered me and looked me up and down with disgust.“You’ve really disappointed me, Olivia. I can’t believe you’ve turned into such a cold, heartless woman.”His words hit me hard.I swallowed the lump in my throat and calmly said, “This has nothing to do with me. If you don’t believe me, investigate.”“You think I haven’t?”Nigel scoffed and said, “You’re so sneaky now. You even destroyed all the security cameras around the house so that no one could prove what you did.“You used to be sweet and innocent. But now, just to get atte
