8. The guests

Gianna

It took me another minutes closed to hours to finish tidying up the room. All the while, I kept replaying Lady Hera's voice. An omega will always be an omega. So weird that I found myself thinking about it too much. I don't use to bother whenever I've been taunted with my rank. But somehow today, It hurts. The bitterness that settled in me when she uttered those words were unexpected. And more reason because of the situation. I know I cleaned up the room before leaving with Maria. I can't get it wrapped around my head why everything is out of space. As if someone did it on purpose.

I don't want to jump to conclusion when I don't know the truth behind it. But then again, if someone didn't tamper with the room, it wouldn't have been in the situation. I don't understand it.

I descend down in a slow step. My heart did a flip when Lady Hera threw me a look. She was seated at the dining together with the Alpha whose attention was focused on the newspaper that sat in front of him. The look wasn't pleasant. I had to discard the scent of freshly baked bread that resonates through my nostrils. I averted my eyes from them and proceed to make my way to the kitchen. "Learn how to do your work diligently without involving lies inside" Came her voice. This time around it was in a normal pitch. I said nothing only form my lips into a thin line and walk away.

"What is going on Gianna?" Maria attacked me with question as soon as I entered the kitchen. She was plopped atop the big center table that was in the kitchen sipping on her tea. "I have no idea too" I answered with a shrug.

"What happened?" Mrs. Rosa asked placing a tray containing the bread on the kitchen counter. Before I could signal Maria not to tell her, she began talking.

"Lady Hera claimed her room wasn't tidied up. And Gianna did that before we left for the jogging" Maria explained. I rested my back on the table.

"How?" Mrs. Rosa raised her voice in question. I know everyone will be confused as much as I am. "You told me you're done with your work earlier. What went wrong?" Her expression was void of confusion.

"I'm also confused. I'm very much sure I tidied up her room which was even the hard one among the rest. But then I don't understand. When I saw the room, it looked so unkept" I explained sinking in a sharp breath.

"I'm sure someone did that on purpose. Taking advantage of our absence" Maria said taking another sip.

"And my attention was solely focused on what I was doing. I didn't really know the situation outside. Don't mind that dear. Whoever it is, will surely be caught one day. Come have your breakfast"

Mrs. Rosa is right. If someone did that on purpose, one day that person will be caught. I collected the cup of sizzling tea from her outsretched hands.

I took a bite of the bread that was still hot. "How is it?" Maria asked her eyes dancing with excitement. You would think she was the one that baked it. Mrs. Rosa didn't even pay attention to us. She already know how her food is having effect on people.

"I love it. Fluffy and tasty" I took another bite. Again and again. In the end, I asked for more which Mrs. Rosa gladly gave me. Maria and I left for the room. I immediately crashed on the bed as I rub my palm on my stomach. I don't think I can eat anything again. My stomach can burst in that state.

Vanessa was the only one in the room apart from us. She was pressing on her phone. "What do you think went wrong earlier?" Maria asked stretching her legs on the other side of the bed. We were sharing the same bed.

"I have no idea. Lady Hera wouldn't give me the chance to explain myself. Like she was angry"

"That woman is always angry. Believe me all that she's doing is unknown to her husband. Alpha Marco is always busy. Going out early and coming back late" I noticed that too. Because since the day I came, we met not more than twice.

"He works at the bank in the city. He's the chairman"

"I bet that isn't an easy job for him. He'd barely have time for himself" Maria nodded in agreement.

"It isn't. And then he has a pack to lead. Alot of responsibility"

I sat up when I remembered something that has been on my mind since the day I came to the house. I'm sure Maria will have an answer to it. "I wanted asking you this for a while. Don't they have any children. A daughter or a son. I don't see any of them around or anyone talking about them"

"They do have a son. But speaking about it is banned. Anyone that is caught talking about him will be punished" I was confused at her statement. What sort of rule is that. What was the reason why his name should not be mentioned. I was more than curious.

"And you're not going to break that rule?" I said on purpose hoping she'd at least tell me something.

"If it's this. Then no. I fear the wrath of the Alpha"

"How would he know then? I mean no one is here to hear us" I ushered back.

"He has someone controlling everything. My grandma is among. And there are prying eyes also" For the first time since I met Maria I saw a hint of fear in her eyes.

There are lot of mysteries in the pack house. Somehow, day by day it's making me curious. Where is their son and what was the reason why talking about him is banned from the house? I state out the question in my head. But nevertheless, dropped the topic.

**

The time for our cooking has arrived again. And we are to make a lot because the Alpha is coming back home with guest again. Mrs. Rosa warned us to be extra careful and make sure we cook everything well. Like we didn't do that last time.

Claire was consciously quiet as we prepare to start the cooking. Maria left for her grandmother's  house while Vanessa and Selena are nowhere to be found. I don't really know where they went off to. That's not something I will put myself into knowing. I started cutting the vegetables after washing them in the sink. While Claire is blending the pepper to make the sauce. I started cutting the vegetables while singing my song in a slow voice.

Using the  silence as opportunity I started a conversation with Claire. At first she wasn't already giving me a good reply but later on she relax.  Atleast it will make our work more easier. "So tell me when did you start working here?" I asked as I put on the gas cooker

"One year ago"

"Wow. That's a long time"

"It is. I feel like the days are getting long day by day. I didn't come on my own will. I had to" Something bitter danced in her voice.

"Sometime we had to sacrifice not because we want to"

We started by stir frying the sauce before proceeding to boil the pasta and then the next thing we'll do is to make broccoli. "You're right. But sometimes the sacrifice is too big to take. I had to do this for my brother"

"Your brother?" I was getting more curious.

Claire sunk in a sharp breath. "Yes. He lost one of his legs while wolf hunting. He's a human" I could see the sadness in her eyes.

"I'm so-"

I didn't get to complete my statement when she cut me off. "It's fine. I had to take this job to cater for our needs. Our parents lost their lives during a battle between enemies"

Everyone do have a scar within. Unless you get closer to them you wouldn't know what they went through. "Days be will better dear"

A smile curved up her lips. "I'm sure of that. What about you? How did you come here?"

Okay, that will be a tale to tell. We put off the fire that was for the sauce and turn on the other one for the pasta. "It's kind of complicated. I stay with my uncle back at my pack. We're not blood related though. He took me in to the pack. That was where I grew up in. Let's say I'm here for his sake" I uttered forming my lips into a thin line.

"I guess we all have a side story to our lives" I nodded in answer. She's right. We all have a dark side to us. That was within the dept of our hearts. Some stories are better off left unsaid. Just like the sorcerer said. But I can't seem to away with that statement. Knowing it's about my parent. I'm already counting days. Two days before the full moon.

"What are you guys gossiping about?" Maria walked in. She was dressed in a pair of shirt and jeans.

"Gossiping about Maria" I said with a light chuckle. I got a glare in return. She went on to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water gulping some down.

"I feel so energized" She asserted heaving out a sigh.

"How is Mrs. Marissa?" I'm planning on paying her a visit. I want to ask Maria if she would borrow me her phone so that I will call Sir Alberet. And know how he's doing.

"She's fine. She keep throwing tantrum. I can't keep up with that temper or hers"

"That's because you're giving her too much headache. But then she loves you alot" Maria rolled her eyes. "What are you cooking? Make it delicious. You might get complimented by Alpha"

I raised my brows at her question. "I guess that will be an award to keep"

I don't know why but I want everyone to enjoy my food. I've left a bad impression for my first work this morning. Venturing into another will make it more worst. We finished off the rest of the cooking while chatting. The conversation was kinds reasonable. Talking about different things. And the wolf ranks.

When it was time for dinner, Mrs. Rosa instructed us to take the food to the guest dinning room. I was nervous when I stepped inside the room filled with people. If counted, they'd reach like five people including Alpha six. We slowly made our way placing the tray of food at the center. Already the plates and other necessary were already settled. I lightly greeted Alpha Marco with my head casted down. I don't know whether he heard me or not. I rushed my way out to get the other things.

I almost clashed with Claire who was bringing in the broccoli. "The drinks" She mouthed to me. I rushed to the kitchen grab a new tray and skim through the refrigerator. "Alpha Marco doesn't drink the ones from the refrigerator. You should take the ones from the store" Mrs. Rosa guided walking her way towards a door. As she opened it, my mouth hung low as I watch a mini store containing different varieties of beer.

"Here. Take these two. Those are his favorite"

"Okay Ma'am" I said with a light nod and sauntered my way back to the dining room.

We were about to leave after we served them the food when one of them stopped us. "You" He said. Claire and I glance at each other not sure of who he was referring too. I was saying I'm relieved Mr. Matthew didn't join in today. But then another is on again.

"You in white you may go. And you in blue should stay" I couldn't escape how my heart escalate when Claire walk out of the room leaving me all alone. My chest was beating inside it's ribcage and I waited for what they had to say.

"Gianna pour me some drink"

What? Do I have to do that too? I hurriedly marched forward and reached for the bottle. The lid is already opened. I pour some in the glass cup. "Here Sir" I uttered as calmly as I could muster up.

“You may go” Alpha Marco uttered. And just as I was half way through the door, a word from what they were discussing catch my ears.

“So Marco, the full moon is in two days. I hope you've made the necessary preparations” As soon as I was out of the room, I rested my back on the nearest wall. They are also talking about the full moon. How important is the full moon?
