Chapter 7

After that, the connection to Lilia was severed, but she too was restless. I couldn't have missed that.

Mate? You weren't serious? Where? Or rather who? That was the purest nightmare. I had been sold and this is where I was supposed to meet my mate. My situation got worse instead of better.

Hopefully Lilia was wrong and our mate wasn't around. It would be torture if I saw it every day but belonged to another man.

Melody stayed with me in my room and helped me unpack. She said that was her job and she was very friendly. We got along pretty well, got to know each other and had a lot of laughs.

Finally the question came: "I don't want to offend you, Layla. But why did you agree to this?"

She mentioned earlier that Alpha Blackmoon didn't want a mate. This was apparently common knowledge. The man made no secret of it.

I didn't even feel uncomfortable with the question, so I answered truthfully, "My father is an alpha from a smaller pack and there are some imbalances between them. Before my father and the entire pack were slaughtered, he sold me. Tada, here I stand."

She stopped and looked at me in shock. Melody didn't know what to say to that. No wonder, I could hardly believe it myself. It was way too surreal.

I unpacked further and disappeared into the bathroom. I was able to unpack everything there. A bit of time passed and Melody was able to process what had been said.

When that was done, I went back to my room and Melody seemed slightly absent. Someone was probably speaking to her in the Mindlink. So I didn't bother and looked around.

Oh, there was even a balcony door. Perfect, I would go out there. I had to see that. Nothing was missing. In the room I could hide myself well or rather like. That was a little safe spot.

I was about to go out onto the balcony when Melody said, "Layla, the alpha is asking for you." I stopped and my heart skipped a beat. Those were exactly the words I didn't want to hear.

I slowly turned and looked at her. She gave me a smile, probably trying to calm me down. But that didn't get me one bit.

I cleared my throat and managed to reply, "Okay." If I was lucky, I'd die of a heart attack beforehand. Then I wouldn't have to do all that crap anymore.

Melody walked to the door and I obediently followed her, as was expected of me. My nervousness had increased immeasurably. She held the door open for me and so we left my room, which should be my future hiding place.

We started walking and I kept quiet, trying to deal with my nervousness. Of course I didn't let it show and covered it up. I did my best to keep a neutral expression on my face. I still couldn't control my heartbeat.

Melody said, "The alpha is in his office. Later we'll unpack the rest of your stuff and I'll help you there." Her help was nice and I don't think it should be taken for granted. However, she was probably paid to do it.

"Thanks, that's kind of you." I looked over at her and she smiled again. "No problem. It's my job and I love doing it." Very good. No matter what kind of monster the alpha was, at least one friendly being was by my side. Or near me.

We stayed on the first floor, only went to the right wing. I looked around but it was all way too fancy or expensive. That wasn't normal. Norm was something else.

Finally we arrived at a door and my heart pounded even more. I'd probably fall over if it kept going like this. A fall, which I would have liked.

I took a deep breath and Melody didn't give me an odd look because of it. She was probably afraid of him herself and could understand my behavior.

Now was the moment of moments. I immediately faced the ice-cold beast.

Melody knocked and we waited a moment. Every second felt like an eternity.

Finally came a cool, "Come in."

It sounded like a threat. You had to do that first. The voice was deep and very masculine.

That voice woke Lilia, she was no longer encapsulated. I felt that immediately, I could talk to her right now. But I was mad at her, which is why I wouldn't start a conversation with her. Also, I had bigger problems.

I couldn't think any more because Melody opened the door for me and gestured for me to come in. My heart was pounding way too loud for the whole house to hear.

I nodded to her and entered the room. Unfortunately, Melody didn't follow me and closed the door behind me.

I was alone in a room with the Alpha. All alone. Otherwise nobody was present. The monster could do whatever it wanted with me. I was completely at his mercy.

Well, who was I fooling? Melody wouldn't be a great help. There is a high probability that no one would be with this alpha.

I dared to look up and it was a very large and spacious office.

Finally my gaze landed on him. He wasn't difficult to find. Not even a human could escape the fact that this man was of high rank.

Alpha Blackmoon was sitting at his desk working on something. He didn't pay me any special attention and somehow that increased my nervousness combined with fear.

He was seated, but you could see that he was tall and you couldn't miss the many muscles either. That's what I call a man. Ok, he was an alpha, they were practically all trained to death and mostly manhood personified.

He deserved a medal for his ignorance. His gaze never wandered to me. No, he hadn't lifted it a bit.

How should I behave? What should I do? How should I react?

I felt completely useless.

Would I continue to be ignored by him? Seriously? But what should I say? Opposite me was the most brutal alpha ever. I didn't want to be resentful.

My heart was pounding non-stop and I was completely clueless. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Desperation took hold of me and joined fear. I have no idea how long my circulation would last before I passed out.

Eventually he moved and Alpha Blackmoon looked up from his papers when our eyes met. The world stopped and it hit me with full force.

Lilia exclaimed, delighted, "Mate!" No, no, simply no. She had to be wrong. Lilia couldn't mean it. Not this man, not this beast of all people.

Did the moon goddess even punish me?

The moon goddess chose all mates. She was in charge and decided who was perfect for each other. She gave us a mate's blessing. That was infinite and unconditional love, at least in most cases.

We just looked at each other and I was scared. You should feel joy when you finally get to know your mate.

Unfortunately, I felt it, we were mates. Lilia wasn't wrong, we really had found our mate. I felt our bond and the attraction.

Alpha Blackmoon was rarely attractive, I couldn't deny that. I was completely mesmerized by him and my brain wasn't working properly anymore.

Werewolves of his rank were faster than the standard werewolf. I did have alpha blood in me, but it really blossomed when you took on the title of alpha.

I hardly realized that he had gotten up. Already I was pressed against the next wall and had his hand on my throat.

As soon as our skin touched, I felt it. Sparks, wonderful sparks. It was perfect, just perfect.

I looked into his eyes and of course had to look up. My brain went blank when we made eye contact.

He growled very menacingly, which gave me goosebumps. That brought me back to reality. As great as the sparks were, his hand on my throat was far from good. His eyes had turned black and that made it worse.

That's what happened when you felt too much bad emotion. Anger, hatred or jealousy, all the feelings along those lines. I have no idea what emotion he was feeling right now.

Lilia excitedly said , " Mate! We finally found him! Mate! Finally, the search is over, Layla!"

She wasn't fucking serious. Our so-called mate went for our throats and she was happy. Yes, she officially freaked out.

I continued to feel the sparks and they were so distracting. I was actually scared, but the touch calmed me down again. That was way too confusing. There were too many emotions at once.

Nobody said a word and Alpha Blackmoon kept his eyes locked with me. That look could kill. It was a real miracle that I was still alive. My life will soon be over. If I interpreted that look correctly.

But those eyes, they were beautiful. Black or not. This man pulled me to him. I felt like a moth drawn to the light. That perfect face, distinctive features, perfect nose, perfect chin and...

Yes, he is perfect. Look at him, so perfect and that hair. Imagine..." "Lilia!" She should pull herself together. We both should. Things are looking bad for us at the moment. The Alpha would be much stronger than us, it would have broken our necks in seconds.

Murdered by your own mate, that would be the true tragedy and cruel. But right now he didn't look like anything friendly was coming.

Suddenly Alpha Blackmoon let go of me, took a step back and looked at his hand as if it had been burned. Ouch, that hurt and made my heart ache.

How could you have that reaction to the sparks? That was a beautiful feeling. Probably not for him and that hurt.

The sparks were gone and I missed them. That could be a problem, I was probably hooked by now, and he looked like he was about to kill me.

He growled out, "Get out!"

It had been an ominous command and very loud. At first I couldn't move, I was too shocked. First the realization that he was my mate and his subsequent negative reaction. That was too much for me.

"Get out!"

Well, he didn't have to tell me that a third time, so I rushed to the door. I was thankful that my feet had reacted at all. Just step out of his office and I slammed the door behind me.

My heart ached.

I could feel the mate band well, that should be torture. I was hurt by his behavior, it was the complete opposite of the normal reaction when you find your mate. Alpha Blackmoon obviously didn't want me and immediately went for my throat. It was probably not anger, but hatred.

Lilia spoke up, "Well, that didn't go perfectly. But..." "No! He hates us. Our mate hates us, Lilia. Doesn't that get in your head?!" It wasn't the kindest statement, but I was angry and hurt.

Lilia growled softly and pulled back. Great, now I had driven my wolf away completely, although I only got her back a short time ago. But currently I had a bigger problem, I could deal with Lilia later.

This cruel beast was my mate. That actually meant the man didn't want a mate, but had bought it himself and brought it here first. Who knows if we would have crossed paths otherwise.

The moon goddess took an interesting path. Only now did I feel the tears running down my cheeks. I brushed them off angrily and hurried down the hall.
