The memory did not arrive with noise or warning. It simply opened, clear and cold, as if someone had turned a page she had tried to keep closed.

In the first life it had been a quiet afternoon in the private hospital wing. The pain had been manageable that day, so the nurses left her alone for longer than usual. Lisa lay propped against the pillows, watching the slow drip of the IV, when Claire walked in carrying a small paper bag and a soft smile.

“I brought the tea you like,” Claire said, setting the bag down and pulling a chair close to the bed. She took Lisa’s hand without asking, her fingers warm and gentle. “You look a little better today.”

Lisa had been glad to see her, even though her sight was too poor to notice the feigned pretence. At that point Claire was still the one person who came without making her feel like a burden. Richard visited, but his visits had started to feel careful and distant. Claire still sat close and spoke like a friend.

They talked about small things for a while, then Claire grew quieter. She brushed her thumb across Lisa’s knuckles and said, almost tenderly, “You’re lucky, you know. Most men leave when things get this hard. Richard stays. He still sits with you. He still calls you his wife like nothing has changed. That kind of loyalty is rare.”

Lisa remembered smiling weakly at the words, grateful even through the fog of medicine. She remembered thinking Claire was trying to give her strength.

What she did not notice until much later was the scent on Claire’s clothes and skin. It was Richard’s cologne, the one he wore only in the evenings, the one that used to linger on Lisa’s own pillows. That afternoon it clung to Claire instead.

Claire had held the hand of a dying woman and told her she was lucky, while carrying the smell of the man who was already sharing her bed.

The cruelty of it had been quiet. No raised voice. No open mockery. Just soft words and a borrowed scent, delivered with the face of a friend.

Lisa sat in the present silence of her study and let the memory finish its work. Her stomach felt tight. Her fingers curled against the desk. That version of Claire had not needed to shout to destroy her. She had only needed access and a gentle tone.

A knock on the study door pulled her back.

“Miss Loneria,” the staff member said carefully, “Miss Claire is here. She says she needs to speak with you about a personal matter. She does not have an appointment.”

Lisa stared at the door for a second longer than necessary. The past still sat close under her skin. The last person she wanted in her house was Claire, yet refusing her outright might create more noise than she needed right now.

“Send her in.”

Claire entered with the same easy grace she had always carried, dressed simply, expression open and slightly concerned. She looked around the study once before focusing on Lisa.

“Hii Sweetie, I won’t take much of your time,” Claire said. “I came because I heard about the board rumors and the pressure around a possible engagement. I know things have been strained between you and Richard. I thought you should know that some of the quieter investors are starting to ask questions about stability. I didn’t want you to hear it second-hand.”

Lisa did not invite her to sit. “You’re bringing me business gossip?” a small smile crept on her face..“I’m bringing you a warning,” Claire replied, still calm. “Whether you believe my reasons or not. The talk is getting louder. If you plan to keep refusing any formal connection to the Hales, you may want to prepare for how the board will react.."

The reason was practical and also completely different from anything Lisa had expected. No soft personal approach, no attempt to reclaim friendship. Just information wrapped in concern. That difference made the visit harder to read, not easier.

Lisa studied her briefly. In the first life Claire had sat beside a hospital bed, held her hand, and told her she was lucky while wearing Richard’s scent. In this life she stood in the middle of the study speaking about investors and stability as if they were only two women discussing strategy. The gap between those two versions created a quiet, unpleasant tension that Lisa could not yet name.

“Why do you care if the board gets restless?” Lisa asked but Claire’s expression did not change. “Because a messy public fight between Loneria and Hale will damage more than just the two of you. Some of us still have to live with the fallout.” It was a careful answer, not warm, not openly hostile which was Useful enough to sound real, distant enough to keep her true position hidden.

“Well, I don't think I and Richard will work out, he accused me of replying to a text I never saw making me question my mental health..”

“ Ohhh ohh ohh…I'm so sorry about that I had your phone with me that day instead of mine it was a mistake so I thought it was my little brother Richard who playfully texted so I had to blast him.”. Claire chuckled as she vomited her lie fluently.

A creepy laughter escaped from Lisa's mouth as she listed to the painstaking lie, she only wanted to confirm Claire had something to do with such incident that day. The old memory press against the present moment, he soft voice. The held hand, the wrong cologne. She kept her face steady.

“You’ve said what you came to say,” Lisa answered. “I’ll handle the board in my own way.”

Claire held her gaze for a second longer, then gave a small nod. “I expected as much my darling. ” She turned toward the door, then paused. “For what it’s worth, I will go apologize to Richard about the text incident, I'm sorry. ”

“You can have what you want to yourself my darling.” Lisa replied with a sarcastic smirk. Claire hurried out of her office with skaky breathe.

When the door closed behind her, the study felt colder with Lisa standing where she was, the past and present versions of Claire sitting uncomfortably close in her mind. One had smiled while slowly helping to end her life. The other had just walked in with a clean, practical warning and fake request for forgiveness after intruding into her private life. The difference should have been reassuring, Instead it left her more unsettled than a direct attack would have.

Now she knows what Claire wants in this life, She only knew that soft voices had once been the most dangerous ones of all, and she would not forget that lesson simply because the subject of the conversation had changed.

  • The Day I stopped Loving You    FlashBack

The estate was quiet after midnight when the memory hit her without warning.Lisa sat on the edge of her bed with the court papers still locked in the drawer and the latest message from Adrian unanswered on her phone. She had been strong for weeks.. after fate spared her now She had refused Richard in public. She had pushed his father out of her house. She was healthy now, clear-headed, and no longer the dying girl everyone once pitied. Yet the past still knew how to find her, It started with a sound. In the first life she had come home early from a hospital check. The pain had been lighter that day, so the driver brought her back before evening. She remembered the front hall, the soft light, and the low voices coming from the small lounge near the stairs. She had walked closer, still in her coat, thinking Richard was on a call. Then she heard Claire’s quiet laugh. She stopped with her hand on the doorframe. The voices were too close, too soft. She heard Richard say something about

  • The Day I stopped Loving You    Proposal gone wrong

Three months later, on the exact date that still lived under her skin like a brand, Lisa woke already restless. In the first life this had been the night Richard asked her out properly and she had said yes with a soft open heart, the same night he had driven her away from the lights and taken her in the back seat of his car while rain tapped against the roof, his hands careful at first and then hungrier as she opened for him, the slow stretch and the deep push and the way she had come around him whispering his name like it belonged only to him. The memory rose without permission, vivid enough that her thighs pressed together under the sheets before she forced herself out of bed.She came prepared. The reception was already loud with glass and conversation when the whole city had gathered to watch the young heir and heiress confess Thier love for each other. Richard found her near the terrace doors. He looked controlled in the way men looked when they had decided to take a risk, and t

  • The Day I stopped Loving You    Talk of The Devil

Isabella Voss arrived before the formal invitation could even reach her, talk of the devil. I was still in the study going over the limited reports the temporary administrator allowed me when the staff announced she was already at the gate. I had expected resistance, excuses, or at least a delayed reply. Instead she walked into the main sitting room as if she had been waiting for the call, calm and composed in a tailored coat, her expression unreadable.“You wanted to see me,” she said.I did not offer tea. I did not waste time with politeness that neither of us needed. “You sent a guard to pick me up that night at the restaurant. Why?”Isabella met my eyes without flinching. “Because you were alone, it was late, and someone needed to make sure you got home safely.”“That is not an answer.”“It is the only honest one I can give you right now.” She sat without being invited, crossing her legs with easy confidence. “You can believe I was watching you for my own reasons, or you can belie

  • The Day I stopped Loving You    Four Weeks Later

Four weeks later my mother was discharged. The estate felt different with her back in it, quieter in some ways, heavier in others. I had spent the morning reviewing the limited reports the temporary administrator still allowed me to see when the staff announced an unscheduled visitor.Richard’s father. …What a Wow!!I reached the main sitting room just as he was being shown in. My mother sat on the long sofa, still careful with her movements. He greeted her with polished warmth, but his eyes did not stay on her. They moved across the room, the doorways, the visible hall beyond, lingering a second too long on the spaces that led deeper into the house, measuring, assessing, like a man already deciding what could be taken.I stepped fully into the room.“Looking for something?” I asked. He turned, smile already in place. “Lisa. You’ve grown sharper since we last spoke.”“And you’ve grown bolder, walking through my house like you’re measuring it.”My mother’s voice cut in quickly, low and

  • The Day I stopped Loving You    I’ll Pretend to Love Him

Lisa walked into the Loneria private lounge at exactly 7:00 p.m. wearing a simple cream dress and a calm expression that cost her more effort than she wanted to admit, and Richard was already there, standing the moment she entered with surprise flickering across his face before he controlled it.“You asked to meet,” he said.“I did.” She sat without waiting for an invitation. “We need to talk about the court order.”Richard remained standing a second longer before taking the seat across from her, the table between them feeling wider than it should have.“I’ve already spoken to my father,” he said. “He’s not willing to withdraw the filing.”“I know.” Lisa kept her voice even. “That’s not why I’m here.”He watched her carefully. “Then why?”“Because fighting him head-on right now will only make the restrictions tighter. I need the company stable until I’m fully free of the order, that means fewer public clashes, that means you stop looking like the enemy in every room we share.”Richard
