Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Suddenly, Marty lost control and plummeted from the Ninth Heaven. At the same time, the damp aura around us suddenly pulled on the clansmen’s spirit power.

The sky in the mortal realm instantly turned into blazing sunlight.

Leigh struggled desperately, wanting to try again. However, a bolt of heavenly thunder struck her down, slamming her heavily onto the rain altar.

“Impossible! I’m clearly the one most qualified to bring rain and ascend!”

Furious, Leigh pointed at me and cursed. “It’s you! You tampered with it, didn’t you?”

Father’s heart ached as he pulled Leigh into his arms, his face stern as he looked at me.

“Chloe, Leigh is your elder sister. How could you plot against her?”

The clansmen, their spirit power drained, turned on me as well.

“Princess Chloe, even if you’re jealous of Princess Leigh, you should think of the greater good.”

“That’s right. If this rain fails, who in the Rain Clan will be able to ascend and protect our clan?”

I crossed my arms and looked coldly at Father. “Are you really going to twist black into white? Don’t you know why Leigh failed?”

Father always favored Leigh.

Every spell I found growing up, she always got to choose first, while I endured harsh training within the clan.

Only my aunt cared for me, and before my death, she told me the truth.

I was not the murderer of my mother and brother.

“That day, when Mother and a mortal woman both went into labor, the mortal woman began to hemorrhage. It was you, Father, that unleashed the water beast in order to save the mortal woman.

“Mother fought the water beast during childbirth. While she was at her weakest, you drew her divine bone to save the mortal woman, your long-lost love. Because of that, I was nearly never born, and my brother died in the womb.”

Father tried to seal my lips, but his divine power had no effect on me.

“Had Leigh’s mother endured the burden of the divine and survived childbirth, would you not have married her instead?

“To cover up the truth, you carried me out and publicly declared me a cursed star, saying I was the one who killed my mother and brother. From then on, you forced me to bear that crime and trained me mercilessly.

“I used to be so naïve, thinking that if I one day succeeded in bringing rain, you would finally recognize me. I wanted to protect the Rain Clan and make up for the harm I supposedly caused.

“It wasn’t until Mother’s death anniversary, when I saw you at Carefree Mountain, at a nameless grave. You admitted then the real reason you trained me. Leigh, born of half-mortal blood, was frail and sickly. You planned to strip my divine bone so she could ascend in my place.

“All those years I fed Leigh with my heart’s blood, it was only to help her adapt to my divine bone bit by bit so her body wouldn’t reject it.”

“Enough!” Father clenched his fists, glaring coldly at me. “I don’t know where you heard such nonsense. Considering your youth, I won’t punish you today. Return to your Water Moon Cave and reflect.”

I lifted my skirt and walked onto the rain altar, standing tall at the center.

“Father, I think I’ve done more than enough. Now, the mortal emperor is praying for rain. If the rain doesn’t fall today, aren’t you afraid the Ninth Heaven will demand an explanation?”

The clansmen, still drained of power, began to doubt. Now that they knew Leigh carried impure blood, their eyes shifted toward me.

“Lucas, let Chloe try. Otherwise, how will we answer to the Ninth Heaven?”

My aunt pressed at the right moment, forcing Father to agree reluctantly.

I reached out and pulled Evan onto the rain altar. He instantly felt the crushing weight of its spirit power, barely able to stand straight.

I pricked my finger and offered him my blood, but he shook his head.

“If I don’t have the strength on my own, then I’m not worthy to be your spirit beast. Please, Princess, let me try myself.”

“You talk too much. We’re about to form a bond. You are my partner now, and partners share both hardship and joy.”

“Princess Chloe, he’s just a green snake. If you insist on contracting with him, I fear he doesn’t have the strength to carry you and summon the rain.” Marty folded his arms, sneering.

I flicked a finger, blasting him a hundred feet away from the rain altar.

I continued to channel my power.

Evan’s head throbbed with pain, but horns sprouted on his head, and his scales shone a brilliant green light.

From a distance, he looked no different from a green dragon.

With a roar, he lifted me high into the skies.

“No matter how much he looks like a dragon, he’s not one! Green dragons are the strongest among dragons. A green snake can’t possibly be one. It’s just an illusion!”

Marty ground his teeth in hatred, deliberately mocking Evan.

The other clan leaders grew worried, too, urging me not to risk ruining the ceremony out of pride.

However, just as they were ready to leave in disappointment, the plants around the rain altar suddenly flourished, vibrant and lush.

Spirit power overflowed, filling every clansman with warm, healing strength.

In the crystal orb, storm clouds once again gathered over the mortal world. The emperor’s face lit up with joy.

“Rain! The Goddess has brought rain!”

The mortals below cheered, kneeling in front of the Rain Goddess Temple.

“Thank you, Goddess, for bringing the blessed rain!”

“Thank you for bringing us the blessed rain!”

I shook my head at him.“Marty, my connection with you ended long ago.”Leigh looked at me, begging. “Chloe, save me. Father is dead, and our aunt is dead. You’re the only family I have left.”I remembered my last life, when a wolf bit me in the Valley of Beasts. I begged her with the same pleas of sisterhood to spare me. However, she used an illusion and stomped on my face. “How are you worthy to call me sister?”My eyes went ice cold. “This is all your own doing.”I used my divine power to strip that face from her.“Things taken from others must be returned.”Leigh had always cared most about her looks. Frenzied, she ran to the Meditation Lake and, seeing her scarred face, went mad and lunged at me. “It’s all your fault, Rain Goddess Chloe! I’ll kill you!”However, Evan struck first and shattered her inner core. In the end, Leigh vomited blood and died glaring at me.Marty’s gaze fixed on Evan. “Is it because of him you won’t return to me?”He tried to kill Evan, but I

The moment the seal broke, it felt like every bone in my body was about to fall apart. The pain nearly stopped me from finishing the incantation.I thought I was going to die.“Auntie!” My raw scream tore through the Ninth Heaven.“Chloe, come.”Evan suddenly shifted into his dragon form, his whole body bathing in a bluish-violet light. He held me tight; the warm, soothing spirit power around him wrapped me instantly. It was like a baby returning to its mother’s arms. I steadied my breathing as a purple barrier bloomed around us.“Chloe, keep reciting the rain spell. Don’t stop.”I sat on his dragon back and poured my heart into feeling the suffering of the common people and the clan’s struggle to slay the water beast. The incantation flowed like a clear spring through the valley. When I finished the final line of the rain spell, a gentle spring rain had already begun to fall in the mortal world, and the valley’s floodwaters receded. The water beast quieted as well.Lei

Father had come to beg me to save Leigh.“Put yourself in her shoes. She is your sister, after all.”I looked at Father, unsure whether to laugh or cry.“She relied on my spirit power to try to become a goddess. But now I’m afraid her cultivation may be completely ruined. She brought this upon herself.”“You’re lying! Leigh can’t be ruined. I’ve spent my life tending to her so she could become the Rain Goddess. That’s impossible.”Father stumbled away. The next day, just as I rubbed my sore limbs, I sensed something was very wrong. A major event was happening! My divine bone was linked to my mother’s. In an instant, I felt it. The water beast had awakened.Mother’s divine bone had sealed the water beast for thousands of years. It wouldn’t loosen unless by human interference. Father, unable to take my divine bone, had actually planned to substitute Mother’s divine bone for Leigh.Father’s devotion to his long-lost love really bore his heart for Leigh.Mother’s divine bon

My heart lurched. My aunt was the one who had treated me best in the clan. I couldn’t let anything happen to her.Evan grabbed my hand, warning, “This might be a trap!”I held his hand tight. “This is my aunt. Even if it’s a trap, I have to go!”“Then I’ll go with you.” Evan stood and pulled me along as I smiled at him and nodded. We rushed to my aunt’s dwelling, only to find it was empty. Then, Leigh’s flawless face suddenly appeared above us.“You killed your mother and brother. Yet, your aunt is the only one you truly care about.”She admired her freshly done nails as she sneered at me. “Today, I’ll let you die in your aunt’s cave. At least then you’d have fulfilled your filial duties.”As she spoke, she pinned Evan beneath her and stroked his face. “How can someone be so handsome?”“Let him go!” I shouted at her.“Looks like your mistress really cares for you.” Leigh ordered Marty to take Evan away and began the Heart-Devouring Curse. It was an ancient secret art

Evan didn’t answer. He guided my hand to peel off a single scale from behind his ear. When I held the scale, he stared intently at me. “In our snake clan, if a man loves a woman, he lets her pull off his hardest scale. That way, the woman knows his weak spot, because he’s willing to submit and expose his most vulnerable place to her.”Seeing him make that solemn promise, I carefully kept the scale and fell into his arms. A breeze stirred the lotus pond as he whispered, “Princess, I heard that if a maiden and her spirit beast cultivate together, not only will it boost spirit power, it’ll also increase harmony. Do you want to try?”Even though I’d been thinking and trying for three months with no way to make him become a dragon, I never imagined this. He looked at me with hope, and I awkwardly kissed his soft lips.Suddenly, his body stiffened, and he pinned me down. The shadows of two entwined figures spread across the cave walls. The next morning, I rose sore all over, while t

Leigh glared at me with pure venom.“It was just luck. If I hadn’t drawn the cloud array just now, you wouldn’t have brought down a single drop.”“Princess Leigh, you are not jealous that Princess Chloe could succeed in praying for rain, are you? Well, you weren’t even born a Rain Maiden. It’s normal to be jealous of the true one. No one will hold it against you.”Evan had returned to human form. After the spirit infusion, he now radiated a bluish-green aura from head to toe, looking untouchable. For a moment, even Leigh froze, lost for words. Marty clenched his fists in secret. Dragons are fiercely jealous. Now that he loved Leigh deeply, he couldn’t tolerate it.However, Marty spent too much spirit power to shapeshift and ascend earlier. He couldn’t even beat the lowest-level spirit beast now, let alone Evan, who was about to transform into a dragon.I didn’t want to continue arguing with Leigh anymore. In my last life, I succeeded in calling rain, producing three hundred
