Sophia's POV

“She's dumb. Just like most blondes,” he added.

I hated that stereotype. I wasn't dumb.

“But you married her mother. Would you say she was dumb too?” Another man asked.

My father sipped his orange juice and didn't say anything but shrug.

The other men laughed. Sometimes, I wondered what my mom ever saw in my dad to stay with him. Maybe that's why I was also here fighting for his attention.

“All women are dumb,” my father answered. “You just have to find the one that's a bit manageable.”

They laughed together this time. I wasn't having it.

“No, we aren't,” I blurted. It was too late to take it back. I knew the consequences. I was getting the ass whipping tonight.

My father gave me the ‘did you just dare? eyes.

I remained calm. What's the worst that could happen anyway? I had more thick skin in me.

“Ooh. She's bold. She's definitely your daughter,” another man spoke. He had dirty blonde hair unlike my bright ones.

Salvatore came forward and asked. “Since you're that bold, y

Alessia's POVLocation: USAEnough.I didn’t need a trigger. I didn’t need a reason bigger than the pile of crap I’d swallowed for months. I just needed today. This moment. This breath.I pushed through the glass doors of my office building with my spine straight and my jaw locked. The receptionist glanced up, startled. I didn’t smile.“Alessia.” My boss’s voice cut through the open floor like a knife dipped in condescension. “You’re late. Again.”Eyes turned. Faces I’d once called colleagues watched like vultures. I said nothing. Just walked past their judgment, heels clicking like gunshots.“Nice of you to show up,” he added, louder now. “Maybe today you’ll actually do your job instead of pretending to be some grieving martyr.”I stopped. Dead in the center of the floor.Every nerve in my body wanted to snap. But I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry.I turned to him—smiled faintly. “You want to do this here?”The smirk on his face deepened. “Oh, I absolutely do.”He waved a dismissive hand

Sophia’s POV“The devil had no one that good. I crept into the cave, slowly taunting my prey before I attacked. He screamed and I laughed. It always tasted so much better when the victim was scared,” my inner voice recited as I read the book.I closed the novel and placed it on the table. I was sitting in the garden house on the big property in the morning. With hair tied loosely at the back, giving more reveal to the pearls around My neck.I had a white linen dress on. They stopped just below my knees. And for my feet, I had golden brown flats covering them.I glanced over at the jasmine tea and picked it up. It smelt heavenly. It left a soft bittersweet taste after a sip.The sun had just begun to climb the horizon, and silence hung like a held breath. There were no annoying footsteps or knocking from the maids. Absolutely no interruptions.I tapped the touchpad of my laptop, refreshed the screen again.Inbox: 1 new message. Secure Link Received. It had arrived.Instinctively, my ha

Sophia's POVWhen the one who chases gets chased, every shadow looks scary.“Stay calm,” I said into the phone, holding it tight to my ear even though it crackled. “You can’t move. Not until I say it’s okay.”Flynn’s rough breathing came through the phone. "I’m… hurt, Sophia. I can’t go anymore. I can’t make it.”I didn’t want to hear him say that. It made me really scared. “You’re not going to die. Not now or ever,” I said.Flynn sounded weak.I scanned around me with my eyes, making sure no one saw me or heard me. I couldn't trust anyone in this house. The grand house suddenly felt smaller than ever. “Listen to me. Don't move if you're going to lose any more blood. Did anyone follow you?” I asked.“No,” he said. “I changed lanes. If they ever find me though it might be because they traced my blood and that's not much of anything,” he said and laughed weakly.Jackass. He coughed. “I need you to send me your location now. I’ll make sure someone’s there.”His breathing was raspy and I

  • The Deadly Obsession   Chapter 117

Sophia's POVI walked out through the transparent moving doors. I was panting and didn't want to stay a minute in that place. Getting food was a totally bad idea. The bodyguard followed me closely.I made a mis-step and almost fell. The bodyguard helped me up and I thanked him.I pressed my back against the cold wall, my eyes darting up and down the empty corridor. I was so many steps away from the street, and yet Martina’s face was still burned into my mind like a brand.I had seen her standing outside the mini restaurant building just moments ago. She was fading into the crowd on the sidewalk as she tried to catch up with me.Now, I was far from my car and in the middle of some damn street I didn't know.I felt all kinds of emotions in my heart. Mostly anger, then fear. Just seeing her, even that single glance, had snapped something in me.Martina’s face flashed in my mind, and years of anger tightened my gut. She was my father’s firstborn, beautiful, and used to be the apple of Don

Dominic's POVHell on earth. Fire in my mouth. How did I get here? With my hands. I listened. I got deceived. It was my fault. Now I take the burn. I have to suffer. But not as she did. Nothing I will ever do will be enough to appease for the wrongs I did.“Betrayed. My father? Friends,” my thoughts roamed in my head.I heard wrong. That had to be it. My brain was playing with me.My eyes locked with the old man's. He didn't mince his words. He didn't blink either.“What did you just say?” I asked again. I had to be sure this time.“Your father's murder. Surely, you know about that.”“Yes,” I said and paused. “It was Cotti's doing.”Achille shook his head slowly. “The Cottis. As in Carlo Cotti?”My gaze turned to him and I stayed silent.Achille had an eyebrow raised and lowered it before he spoke. “Then you were told lies.”I leaned forward. “I don't understand.”He sighed, then breathed calmly before looking away and sipping his tea. “Your father—Luca—wasn’t just a businessman.
