The globe sprang to a kick-lash of noise and fire.

Steel rang against stone.

Elara reeled as she saw her vision break away out of the eyes of Silas and the shock ran through her skull. She shuddered, holding her head, knifing up.

“Silas..!”

He moved on instinct.

Instead it was his ribs, which the blade intended to enter his heart, as he twisted across his shoulder. The blood sprayed up against the stone wall. Silas pushed his weight forward, crashing his elbow into the chest of the elder.

The creature dragged itself out of the broken earth slowly.Stone scraped against bone. Dust rolled over the courtyard in thick waves. Wolves stumbled back, coughing. Some shifted without meaning to.Its body was massive, larger than any wolf Elara had ever seen. It was more than muscle and fur. Its skin had faint markings that pulsed like veins of silver fire beneath its dark hide. And its eyes...They burned the same silver as Silas’s.Only brighter, older.“Elara,” it said again. The voice was not loud; it did not need to be. It slid through her bones and settled behind her ribs.Silas stepped in front of her instantly. His body blocked hers without thinking. His shoulders were tense, claws half-formed.“What are you?” he demanded. The creature’s head tilted slightly, studying him.“You carry my mark,” it said.Silas did not retreat. “Answer me.”The ground trembled again as the creature pulled its full body free from the cracked courtyard. Chains snapped and fell from its limbs, o

And the banner blowing in the wind was A cut reopening.Black.A crescent of silver cut in the middle.Elara had numb fingers where she was kneeling in the ruined passage. The connection was the burning of her eyes. She knew that mark. Before going to war, she had observed her father rearing it. she had seen it sink in fire. And beneath it--A tall wolf transformed himself to a human being. Broad shoulders. Dark hair tied at the nape. A scar cut across one of the eyebrows.Alive.The voice of Silas was deep within her head. "You know him."The smoke swept the northern ridge. The wolves in the background of the banner started to move down towards the broken wall closely in line. Not wild. Not rogue. Trained."Yes," Elara whispered. Her throat felt scraped raw."Who?"She swallowed. Her heart beat so hard it hurt."My cousin," she said. "Ronan."Silas stood motionless on the tower roof. Her brother stood chained at the wrists and was trembling beside her.Your pack was destroyed, as you

The blade at her brother’s throat glinted in the firelight.Elara could see his shoulders shaking from where she knelt in the ruined corridor. The tower felt too close. Too sharp. Every flicker of flame burned behind her eyes.“Bring me the traitor’s daughter, or he dies.”The voice echoed across the courtyard. It was deep and distant.Silas stopped amid the chaos. Warriors rushed past him. Steel clashed, and smoke filled the air.But he stayed still.“Elara,” he said through their connection. His wolf was breathing hard, claws digging into the ground. “Stay where you are.”Her hands clenched into fists. “He will kill him.”“I know.”His voice was quiet and controlled.Above them, the cloaked figure pressed the blade closer. A thin line of blood trickled down her brother’s neck.Elara’s stomach twisted.“Silas,” she whispered, her voice trembling now. “Please.”On the tower, her brother lifted his head. Even from a distance, she saw it…the stubborn set of his jaw. It was the same look

The forest was too quiet.Moonlight spilled over the clearing, turning every blade of grass silver. Silas stood at the entrance of the broken tunnel, blood soaking through his shirt, with Varrek half-slumped beside him.And they were surrounded.Elara watched through the bond. A circle of wolves stood in human form, their eyes glowing with the same strange silver that had begun to flicker in Silas’s gaze. They weren't blind or sighted. They were something else.Different.At the center stood a woman dressed in white and ash gray. Her long hair was braided down her back, woven with thin strips of metal that caught the moonlight. On her chest rested the crest of the former Luna, the same symbol carved above the Alpha throne.Elara’s breath caught. That crest had burned with Silas’s mate.Silas did not bow. He did not step back. He straightened slowly, one hand gripping Varrek’s collar to keep him upright.“Release him,” the woman said. Her voice was calm, not loud. Yet the wolves around

The answering horn did not belong to the fortress.Elara sensed it deep within her before she fully grasped it. The sound rolled over the walls like thunder that had picked a path. The warriors around her froze.“That is not ours,” one murmured. The captain's jaw tightened. “Outer ridge,” he commanded. “Move!”Boots pounded down the corridor, leaving dust and tension behind.Elara remained kneeling beside Kael, but her mind had left the ruined hallway. It followed the faint pulse of the bond. Weak. Moving.Alive.She shut her eyes for a moment.Through the bond, she saw darkness. A narrow tunnel. Broken stone brushing her shoulders. Silas moving quickly, breathing steadily, blood drying on his skin.He was not alone.A shadow trailed him from a distance.Elara’s eyes flew open.Kael studied her expression. “You see him.”“Yes,” she whispered.“And?”“He is being followed.”Kael swore softly. He tried to push himself up, but pain forced him back down.“You must warn him,” the elder urg

The world reassembled in fragments.First came the dust. It filled Elara’s mouth, nose, and lungs. She coughed violently, her fingers digging into the broken stone below her. Something heavy, yet warm, pressed against her back. “Silas,” she croaked.A low groan came in response. His arm wrapped around her waist. His body curved protectively over hers. Even unconscious, he had not let her go.The corridor was gone. It looked like the bones of a dead creature…cracked beams, fallen pillars, and shattered walls. Smoke curled upward through a jagged opening where the ceiling had been. “Elara.”This time, his voice was clearer, though rough. She twisted carefully under him. “I’m here.” His hand tightened immediately, fingers pressing into her side as if to make sure she was real. He slowly pushed himself up. Blood stained his temple, darker now.“Are you hurt?” he asked. The question made her stop. He used to ask only if she could see; now he was asking about her.“I’m fine,” she said
