**Megan’s POV**

“What the fuck did he say to you?” Alexander’s voice was a low growl, his eyes burning into mine, the phone still clenched in his fist.

His body loomed over me, so close I could feel the heat rolling off him, his cologne mixing with the sharp edge of his anger.

My heart pounded, my knees weak from Richard’s call and now this, Alexander’s fury pinning me in place.

“Nothing,” I stammered, my voice barely a whisper. I tried to pull my wrist free, but his grip tightened, not painful, just firm enough to keep me there. “Alexander, let go.”

“No.” His voice was sharp, like a blade cutting through my lies. He stepped closer, his chest brushing mine, making my breath hitch. “You’re shaking, Megan. You think I can’t see it? Tell me what that bastard said, or I swear I’ll drag it out of you.”

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. My eyes darted to the phone in his hand, Richard’s name glaring on the screen like a ghost from my past.
