Chapter 4

Penulis: TP
The violent vomiting had left me weak and barely conscious. In the end, I was rushed to the family's private clinic. As soon as my parents heard, black armored cars piled up at the entrance, nearly blocking it entirely.

Fate, as always, had a cruel sense of irony. Damiano's car pulled up, too.

He carefully helped Bianca out. A tiny adhesive bandage on her knee was the only damage—a scratch, but I was the one lying on a gurney, hooked to an IV.

Mom's face paled. She might care about the family business, but at that moment, her maternal instinct overrode everything. "Grab her!"

Her hand flicked toward the bodyguards behind her. Two of them lunged forward, yanking Bianca roughly into their grip. Then, Mom slapped her harshly across the face.

"Puttana! How dare you destroy the alliance between our families!"

Clutching her swollen cheek, Bianca trembled violently, screaming as she shrank into Damiano's arms. "I'm scared, Damiano… Help me…"

Damiano looked down at his shaken mistress, the brutality in his eyes erupting all at once. He wrapped an arm around her and soothed her softly. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. No one gets to touch you."

She lifted her tear-streaked face, voice breaking as she played her part. "It's all my fault… I shouldn't have shown up… You and Isabella should just live your lives in peace. I'm willing to sacrifice myself…"

That was all it took to light the fuse.

Damiano spun around, yanking a gold-plated pistol from his waistband. The black muzzle was leveled straight at my parents.

"Get the hell out of here, all of you!" he roared. "You're forcing an innocent life to death! She's just a woman! Do you people have any humanity left?"

Right there, in front of everyone, he barked an order to the underboss, "Cut off every single air route tied to the Cappas—now! I want them to understand the price of laying a hand on my people."

The place erupted in chaos. I forced myself upright, climbed off the gurney, and grabbed the barrel of his gun. "Are you insane? That's my family's lifeline! You're declaring war!"

Damiano's eyes turned frosty. He shoved me aside with a sharp push. I stumbled back, slamming into the gurney, bones aching.

"No amount of profit matters more than Bianca's tears," he said, looking down at me like I was nothing.

Dad's phone buzzed instantly with a confirmation that the air routes had been cut. His face darkened, fury burning behind his eyes, and he ended the call. "Fine! Very well! You act without mercy, so don't expect me to play fair!"

He spun to his bodyguards, bellowing, "Get ready. We're going to war!"

Beside him, Mom trembled with rage. "This marriage was a mistake! You'll pay for this!"

I took in the scene before me, then reached up and tore the ruby necklace—once a symbol of my status as the Madre—from my neck. Hurling it at Damiano's feet, I seethed, "Let the war begin."

I turned my back on him. "I'll make him pay for this. I'll strip him of everything he has and use his ruin as an offering to my dead child."

That day marked what would've been our child's first birthday. I invited Damiano to the chapel tucked in the corner of the estate. In front of the tiny grave, I had set a long table. Every detail of the dinner was prepared by me. The candlelight flickered, casting shadows across his gaunt, hollowed face."Isabella, you're finally willing to have dinner with me," he said, eyes glistening with tears of joy. "This is our fresh start, right?"I lifted my glass, smiling just enough to convince him. "Yeah, this is our new beginning. Drink this, and everything that came before… will be over."The wine was laced with a double dose of muscle relaxant and neurotoxin, and Damiano never questioned it even for a second. He cradled the glass in both hands, as if performing some sacred rite.He threw his head back, and the wine was gone in one swallow."To us," he said."To our ending," I mused. The drugs hit fast. Within three minutes, the glass slipped from his fingers and shattered on the

I stood outside the glass. Inside, Damiano was on his knees, staring at me with feverish devotion. Slowly, I raised my hand and let my fingertips hover level with his eyes. For him, this was the first response I had given him in over six months, a mercy granted from above. Like a fanatic at prayer, he pressed himself to the glass, kissing the spot where my fingers rested, over and over. The sight of it made my stomach churn."Damiano," I called out, fighting the nausea. "Do you want me to open the door? Or to stop thinking you're filthy?"He nodded frantically."Then, go clean house," I said, pointing at the phone outside the isolation window. "Who was it that said the family rules mattered more than my life?"Damiano froze. Memory snapped back into place, and the indifferent faces of his uncles flashed through his mind—men who had watched him grow up, blood relatives. His hesitation lasted only a second before he grabbed the phone and dialed. "Send Marco, Luca, and Uncle Antoni

At that moment, Lorenzo appeared. He looked at the blood on the ground and smiled mockingly. "Not your worst performance, Damiano."Then, he extended his hand to me. "Don't waste your time on a lunatic like him. Come with me, Isabella."Damiano wielded the scalpel again. He positioned himself before me, staring fiercely at Lorenzo. "Unless I die, no one will take her away from me."I watched his back, and the fortress around my heart cracked just a little. In the end, I pulled out my phone and called for an ambulance. I didn't let him into my car, though."Put him in the trunk," I said coldly to the bodyguards. "I don't want him messing up my seats."Damiano was tossed into the trunk as I wished. Before slipping into unconsciousness, his right hand still clutched the ruby necklace I had thrown away. The first thing he did upon waking up wasn't to check on his hand but to dart into the bathroom and sanitize himself all over his body five times. He scrubbed until his skin turned re

After Damiano returned home, he instructed his men to pile every single item that Bianca had ever touched in the yard and set it on fire.Everything was burned to ashes, yet it wasn't quite enough for him. He looked down at his left arm, where a tattoo resided, the same spot Bianca had touched while they were intimate.Disgust flashed across his eyes, and without hesitation or any form of anesthesia, he grabbed a bottle of acid and poured it directly onto his skin. Soon, his flesh was charred to the point of exposing his bones. He was drenched in cold sweat, veins bulging along his neck, but he didn't make a sound. It was as if he believed the physical pain could dull the torment inside him. When the family elders learned he had lost it, they tried to call an emergency meeting to impeach him. Around the conference table, two members who had pushed hardest for Bianca spoke up first. They didn't mince their words, condemning Damiano for losing his mind over a woman, but the next sec

The family war had erupted in full, but I wasn't going after Damiano's business empire anymore. Instead, I targeted his personal assets. To prove his nonchalance, Damiano made a show of it. He deliberately leaked that he would throw a lavish engagement party for Bianca next month. The city went wild with gossip, but I didn't flinch. In fact, I delivered an exquisite gift. It was a sleek voice recorder pen, detailing all of Bianca's schemes against me, including how she caused an induced abortion on me.Once the gift was delivered, I didn't wait for Damiano to call. What came instead was a call from his most loyal underboss. For the first time, the fear in his voice was raw and unmasked."Signora, Don Vito, he… He seems to have gone mad."The underboss informed me that after Damiano received the recorder, he spent the entire day locked in his office. He pulled up every bit of surveillance, tracking Bianca's movements to the tiniest detail. Then, he went to our old master bedroom,

I tracked down Don Lorenzo Valenti, a man even Damiano and Dad had to look up to. He was a mountain neither the Vitos nor Cappas could ever scale.I promised him half of the Vito family's assets once my revenge was complete. With that, I moved into the safe house Lorenzo had set up for me.Rumors spread like wildfire, saying I had become Lorenzo's mistress for revenge. Damiano scoffed at the gossip. He even went public, shutting down all my family's legitimate businesses to force me back into submission. He thought I would beg for him as I had before for the sake of my family. Unfortunately for him, he had forgotten who I was—the woman who had fought alongside him through the blood-soaked battles. That same night, I tapped into the internal mafia ledgers I still had access to. I cut off Damiano's three most profitable smuggling routes, seizing his cargo and snapping his cash flow.Panic spread fast among the elders on his side. They banded together, pressuring Damiano to bring me
