LUCA’s POV

I was still in a stupor when Valentina and her father departed.

That lady. She wasn't your average woman. She had a certain something. I felt her authority as she spoke. When she twisted my hand back, I felt her power. She was also extremely attractive.

Her father was a horrible person. I could feel it. He was really repulsive. Valentina never spoke or laughed as much in his presence as she did elsewhere. I could sense their animosity toward one another. My parents gave me a big smile.

"Well, what did you think of her? She seems nice," Mom inquired. Sweet? I wouldn't use the word "sweet" to describe her. When she cursed, though, I liked it.

As he scratched the back of his head, Dad laughed. We don’t use the term "sweet" in the mafia. For fuck's sake.

"She's fine," I said without hesitation, even though she was more than good.

My father smiled and touched my shoulder. "That's fantastic, son." In two days, the wedding will take place. I'll have someone set it all up. And all you have to do is show up in a suit."

I nodded gradually as I digested the news.

I'm getting married in two days. I felt something, but I'm not sure if it was dread or anxiety. She was a complete stranger. She was able to stand up for herself, and my goodness, did she talk back.

After providing some more mundane details regarding the wedding and after party, my parents left soon after.

There would be an after party, naturally, any reason to get wasted. And with my pricey alcohol in my home.

I rolled up the sleeves of my black top to my elbows and poured myself a glass of whiskey. The amber-colored fluid would soothe me. I was on edge, which might be harmful.

My head was filled with ideas about Valentina that refused to leave. How might such a stunning creature be so deadly? She was not at all what I had expected. No way.

Her hair was a thick, dark auburn color, and her complexion was a warm, fair golden hue. I had the urge to touch it. And I had her body imprinted in my head, damn her body. The perfect combination of curves and muscles. I was most affected by her eyes. Stunning copper like rubies. I couldn't stop myself from staring.

Nico broke into my thoughts and asked, "So, what do you honestly think of her?" That jerk was still around, of course.

"She's..." I said, looking at my brother, who had his arms crossed over his chest and was staring at me.

"She's.." he said with a grin.

"She's different," I said as I opened and shut my eyes. Unlike other women," I said truthfully. She was, indeed. The manner in which she addressed me would have been unacceptable to anyone else. I could see such rage, ambition, and strength in her eyes.

He gave a nod. "Once you get to know her, I think you'll like her. She's as morbid as you are, as far as I can tell. He smiled and said, "By the way, you have a situation you need to deal with."

I frowned. "Why can't you deal with it?" I scowled at Nico, trying to avoid having my spirits dampened any more.

My brother still had work to do, even though he wasn't seated on the throne. Works he had to take care of.

"Because I am not the one in charge, dear brother." Have fun," he said. As he stumbled out, he appeared a little intoxicated.

I was once again by myself in my mind when he departed my home in a hurry.

I gave a nod as Mother started rearranging the bedsheets. Father wasn't a heartless man; he just sometimes didn't know how to respond appropriately. "I can't believe you can't even make a bed," Mother complained while fussing over my bed. She shot a glance at Valentina. For fuck' sake. Valentina grinned while playing with a little knife. I watched as she repeatedly ran her thumb along the sharp edge. I had no doubt she wanted to cut out Mothers tongue and honestly, I could understand why she felt that way. "What’s the matter? Lost your voice? You had plenty to say when you came for dinner," Mother insisted, much to Father's discomfort. Valentina froze and looked up at my mother. "I fucking don’t have anything to say to someone like you. And why the fuck should I bo

I watched her trip a bit as she moved. "I'm really tired," she sighed while rubbing her eyes. I patted the space next to me. "Come join me in bed. "She gave a sleepy smile and nodded, then went to the bathroom. Just then, Dante came in holding a phone. He looked around the room. "This is Valentina's new phone," he said, showing me the shiny device. "Hand it over," I said, extending my hand. Dante handed me the phone. Since Valentina was taking her time, I casually looked at the name she had saved me as on her phone. I laughed and set it down. When Valentina came out of the bathroom, she was wearing shorts and a comfy T-shirt. She got into bed next to me and rested her head down, leaving her arm with the cast outside the covers. "You

WARNING SIGNS: LANGUAGE THAT IS UNAMBIGUOUS CURSING VIOLENCE, GUN VIOLENCE SELF-INFLICTED HARM BLOOD, DECEASE, and GORELUCA POV"Who was that? " I inquired. Her eyes gleamed brightly, and I noticed that tears were starting to form. She was struggling to hold them back. "Lorenzo. He’s leaving," she replied, looking down. She shared his future plans with me. She moved closer, and I gently wiped a single tear from her cheek with my thumb. "Let him go," I whispered. It upset me to see her in distress. I wished I could make it better. But Lorenzo was simply after what we all long for – a chance to live without fear or constantly looking over his shoulder. She let out a soft laugh. "Am I being silly? He’s just my brother, and I really can’t stand that terrible Lien. " Her expression was a mix of anger and disappointment."You might be a bit silly. He just wants a life of his own. If you care about him, you should let him go. " I offered her a gentle smile. She sighed, her sho

WARNING SIGNS: LANGUAGE THAT IS UNAMBIGUOUS CURSING VIOLENCE, GUN VIOLENCE SELF-INFLICTED HARM BLOOD, DECEASE, and GORELUCA POVMy heavy eyelids slowly opened, revealing the dark surroundings around me. Was I really awake? The lights from the monitor shone off the metal bed frame, and at last, I understood where I was and what had happened. So, I was still alive. I had made it. I groaned as I attempted to move, feeling my stiff muscles. Damn. I had been shot in the chest; it hurt a lot. I rubbed my face, which had grown unkempt stubble. My arms felt heavy, and they were also wrapped up. "You're awake," Dante‘s voice came from somewhere in the shadows. Suddenly, the light turned on, and I squinted, struggling to adjust to the brightness. "Well, well, you are awake," Dante said as he approached me. "Now I can finally get out of this fucking place." He smiled. He had no idea how relieved I was to see him and hear his voice. I had been alone in that darkness for what fel

"You won't, sorella," I replied, trying to reassure her. "He's really strong. Plus, the doctors said he will recover. " She let out a heavy sigh as she observed Luca’s chest moving up and down. "I just. . . I care for him so deeply that it pains me to see him like this. I hesitated, Lorenzo. I hesitated. " She looked at me, and in that moment, I could see her as the little girl who always pushed herself too hard to improve, to succeed. "It doesn't matter right now. None of it matters," I replied, swallowing hard. If I were in her shoes, I would have hesitated too. It was just a brief moment. I don't hold it against her. No one does. Luca would never blame her for it. Valentina spent the whole night in that chair. No matter how much I tried to get her to move, she stayed

WARNING SIGNS: LANGUAGE THAT IS UNAMBIGUOUS CURSING VIOLENCE, GUN VIOLENCE SELF-INFLICTED HARM BLOOD, DECEASE, and GORELORENZO POVI heard a rough laugh and turned to see Valentina. She had a big smile on her face as she chuckled softly. After a dry cough, she pointed to the water pitcher next to her bed. I poured a glass for her. I took a seat on the edge of her bed as she drank the water. "I love you, darling," Valentina teased, copying what I said. She was clearly under the influence of morphine. I smiled at her. Given the tough life she's had, I was amazed at how she held herself together. "How are you feeling? " I inquired as she passed me the empty glass.I noticed her eyes widen as she looked at herself. She sighed when she caught sight of her arm, which was in a cast. "I feel terrible. But I'm going to be okay," she replied as she tried to sit up. She noticed a green button on her left side and pressed it several times. I shook my head as I watched the morphin
