LUCA’s POV

I was still in a stupor when Valentina and her father departed.

That lady. She wasn't your average woman. She had a certain something. I felt her authority as she spoke. When she twisted my hand back, I felt her power. She was also extremely attractive.

Her father was a horrible person. I could feel it. He was really repulsive. Valentina never spoke or laughed as much in his presence as she did elsewhere. I could sense their animosity toward one another. My parents gave me a big smile.

"Well, what did you think of her? She seems nice," Mom inquired. Sweet? I wouldn't use the word "sweet" to describe her. When she cursed, though, I liked it.

As he scratched the back of his head, Dad laughed. We don’t use the term "sweet" in the mafia. For fuck's sake.

"She's fine," I said without hesitation, even though she was more than good.

My father smiled and touched my shoulder. "That's fantastic, son." In two days, the wedding will take place. I'll have someone set it all up. And all you have to do is show up in a suit."

I nodded gradually as I digested the news.

I'm getting married in two days. I felt something, but I'm not sure if it was dread or anxiety. She was a complete stranger. She was able to stand up for herself, and my goodness, did she talk back.

After providing some more mundane details regarding the wedding and after party, my parents left soon after.

There would be an after party, naturally, any reason to get wasted. And with my pricey alcohol in my home.

I rolled up the sleeves of my black top to my elbows and poured myself a glass of whiskey. The amber-colored fluid would soothe me. I was on edge, which might be harmful.

My head was filled with ideas about Valentina that refused to leave. How might such a stunning creature be so deadly? She was not at all what I had expected. No way.

Her hair was a thick, dark auburn color, and her complexion was a warm, fair golden hue. I had the urge to touch it. And I had her body imprinted in my head, damn her body. The perfect combination of curves and muscles. I was most affected by her eyes. Stunning copper like rubies. I couldn't stop myself from staring.

Nico broke into my thoughts and asked, "So, what do you honestly think of her?" That jerk was still around, of course.

"She's..." I said, looking at my brother, who had his arms crossed over his chest and was staring at me.

"She's.." he said with a grin.

"She's different," I said as I opened and shut my eyes. Unlike other women," I said truthfully. She was, indeed. The manner in which she addressed me would have been unacceptable to anyone else. I could see such rage, ambition, and strength in her eyes.

He gave a nod. "Once you get to know her, I think you'll like her. She's as morbid as you are, as far as I can tell. He smiled and said, "By the way, you have a situation you need to deal with."

I frowned. "Why can't you deal with it?" I scowled at Nico, trying to avoid having my spirits dampened any more.

My brother still had work to do, even though he wasn't seated on the throne. Works he had to take care of.

"Because I am not the one in charge, dear brother." Have fun," he said. As he stumbled out, he appeared a little intoxicated.

I was once again by myself in my mind when he departed my home in a hurry.

"I didn't do that. I have no intention of hurting either of you. That would be outrageously foolish, and tell me, do I seem foolish to you? " Dominic continued. Who in their right mind would bet on a fight between two equally powerful mafias? Not Dominic and not me. The Russian mafia was different; they were actually not smart. "He's being honest. His body language is genuine," Valentina said while looking at me. "I think so too," I replied in Italian. Dominic cleared his throat, and we turned our attention back to him. "We're leaving now. Thank you for being honest," I said as I got up. "Come on, Luca, just one game of poker. For old times’ sake," Dominic grinned. He was still annoyed about me beating him the last time we played. I glanced at Valentina, who shrugged slightly. "Alright then. O

" She remarked. I nodded and glanced at my watch. "Just wait a moment. " I raised a finger to stop Valentina from saying anything. She exhaled and stayed quiet. It didn't take long for Jude to show up. I welcomed him, excited to see my friend again. "I'm really glad Dante is. . . well, not dead. " Jude laughed. "Me too, now can we please head inside? " Valentina chimed in. She might have been excited to meet the man or maybe she just needed to use the restroom, who knows. Jude noticed her and looked down at her belly, which was carrying the future leader of the mafia. And whoever it was, they would be amazing. "Of course. Good to see you, Valentina. " He said while reaching for her hand. She shook his hand, which seemed to disappoint Jude. He had wanted to kiss her hand, but that honor was

She was stretched out on the two big leather chairs. I had covered her with a knitted blanket. She seemed really bored and quite fed up with my comments. I couldn't believe it. Losing Dante felt like losing a piece of myself. I didn’t realize how much he influenced my life until he was no longer here. He was truly my closest friend, like a brother to me. Damn it. And Valentina, she brought him back into my life. She filled the gap I felt, she meant everything to me. I watched her as she slept. I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. I grabbed my phone and lifted it to my ear after dialing a number. "That better not be that annoying person," Valentina mumbled as she stretched and yawned. "That was a short nap. " I smiled at her. She looked at me with a playful glint in h

I got up and went to the door. I put the puppy down and watched him run off. I shut the door and locked it. "We'll go see Dominic and figure this out. It’s not very likely those two men were involved with him. But it feels personal. Taking Dante made it personal," Luca said further. I nodded in agreement. "From what I've heard about Carter, he seems clever. This doesn’t seem like his doing. Maybe someone is trying to make him look bad? " I said as I approached Luca, noticing the tension in his strong shoulders beneath his black t-shirt. "That could be it. But someone definitely wanted me dead," he growled quietly. That deep sound sent a shiver through me. I sat on his lap, facing him with my legs on either side. My short dress had hiked up quite a bit. "No one can get too close. Only I can," I s

Viviana led me upstairs where I changed and got into bed. I heard the sound of doors opening and closing several times downstairs. She had taken Nico with her. I asked her to leave Luca and Lorenzo downstairs and not to stress about the mess. The maids would clean it up tomorrow, and it was already late. I was almost asleep, snuggled in my blanket, but then I heard the door open and close again. I recognized who it was, so I didn’t throw my knife at the person coming in. “What time is it? ” Luca shouted, and I tightened my eyes in annoyance. “Leave me alone, I’m tired,” I growled. “I’m tired too,” he mumbled as he stumbled around. A moment later, everything went silent. I glanced up and saw him sleeping against the wardrobe. Forget it, let him sleep there; I was too co

WARNING SIGNS: LANGUAGE THAT IS UNAMBIGUOUS CURSING VIOLENCE, GUN VIOLENCE SELF-INFLICTED HARM BLOOD, DECEASE, and GOREVALENTINA POVEveryone stood frozen in surprise, their mouths open and eyes wide as they looked at Dante. A man who had once been dead was now alive. I observed Luca as he shook his head in complete disbelief. His hands were tightly closed into fists, and he started to breathe heavily. He leaned his head as he pointed a finger at Dante. "What, how, what-" he stammered, struggling to find words, his voice slightly shaking. He approached Dante and gave him a good look. "Wow. " He choked out and embraced his best friend tightly. No one moved; they just watched as the two friends held each other. Tears flowed down my face, which was frustrating. I tried to wipe them away, but new ones just took their place. I heard a baby crying as Vix came into the room. She must have heard the excitement. We all saw Luca release Dante and give his shoulder a friendly pat.
