Every nerve inside Esme's body numbed the moment she saw him turning around towards the door where her daughter was standing.

Without being able to think about anything else, she walked past him hurriedly and stormed towards her child, which stunned him a bit.

He saw her picking up the child in her arms and immediately hiding her face in her neck before his eyes could even get a proper glimpse of the kid.

Esme's grip tightened around her child. Her whole body was sweating and even trembling. Her breathing was laboured too which his keen eyes observed, and he understood she didn't want his shadow to even fall on her child. Her action said it all.

He was a monster, a ruthless monster, which he was clearly aware of, so he knew no sane person would want their loved ones to even get under his cruel presence. Just like his new maid, who was doing everything to hide her child from his eyes.

But what the mafia don didn't know was she was not trying to hide her child from his eyes just because of his cruelty but also because his blood was running inside her child's veins.

He was the father of her daughter, whom she loved more than anyone and anything in this world. She loved her kid more than her own self.

His gaze watched her tightly caging her child in her embrace, and before he could even think about stepping towards their direction, she turned around and practically ran out of the hall.

Interesting.

His new maid seemed to be filled with a lot of things which were gaining his attention and it was really very rare that something succeeded in awakening curiosity inside him so fast and easily.

His new maid was really different and unique.

“Boss….” That voice made him trail his eyes away from the door. He saw his second in command, Calix, standing in front of him.

“The bodies from last night have been taken care of and all the evidence has been removed too,” Calix informed him. He didn't say anything.

“Except for one …..” Calix further added, and just his mere words immediately made his boss recall his new maid, which made him smirk.

“Would it be safe to keep her alive?” He heard Calix asking him and both the men knew what was the reason behind his concern.

Esme had seen those blood stains and that gun in his hand last night and she had already understood what had happened last night, so keeping her alive could bring harm to him and his people, and the mafia don was completely aware of this.

“Let her live,” he spoke out, stunning Calix a bit, because he had never witnessed his boss sparing any kind of evidence against the kind of work and things they did, so he could not understand why he was letting her live?

The mafia don turned his head towards the door through which she had run away from him with her child.

“Run a thorough background check on this woman and try to find out every detail about her life and past,” he commanded, intrigued to know about that woman, Esme Hadley.

Calix bowed at him.

“My new maid has found something so forbidden about me, so it would only be fair if I would get to know any forbidden secret of hers too,” he uttered, still staring at the door with that smirk on his face, but his choice of words brought more tears in Esme's eyes, who was secretly listening to their conversation after she sent Elea away from there.

So even last night, he had taken lives? And now she was his next target? But what if the worst happened?

What if he would find out about her past being attached to his?

No, it should never happen. She would never let that worse happen, and the only way to stop that worse from reaching her and her child was for her to run away from him as far as possible.

And she was going to escape him with her child tonight at any cost.

With that intention, Esme turned around and stormed away from there, unaware of the fact that he was already aware of her presence there.

He was aware that she had been eavesdropping on their conversation. After all, he had decided to captivate her here.

Smirking, his nefarious gaze continued to stare at the door.

“Boss, the news of your wedding has already been out in the media. That you are getting married a day after tomorrow,” Calix said, checking his phone.

“And the world is desperate to know who is going to be your bride,” hearing those words of Calix, he chuckled slowly before turning around and looking at his second in command.

“Make sure no one knows who I am marrying. It's better for my bride’s safety reasons,” he uttered to Calix as he was aware of the uncountable enemies he had, who were dying to know about his future wife, so that they could get her in order to reach him.

“Now leave and make sure to give me this new maid's information as soon as possible,” receiving his orders, Calix nodded at him and then left that place.

After Calix left, he travelled his eyes once again towards that same exact door.

His new maid….her mere thoughts had already started amusing him. For the very first time in his life, he was so eager to know about someone so much.

What kind of a mess his new maid was? The mafia don was more than curious to know about this.

………..

In the evening, Luka was reading some papers in his office. For the world, he was a powerfully successful business tycoon, who owned a billions worth business, but many were already aware of his underworld work and how cruel of a mobster boss he was.

He knew people called him soulless for taking so many lives but no one and nothing had ever succeeded in going against him. Because the person who would dare to go against him, he made sure their breathing went against their own body.

A knock on the door grabbed his attention.

“Come in,” he uttered and Calix stepped inside.

“Boss, the deal with the Andersons has been cancelled just like you wanted,” Calix informed him, who silently listened to him but gave him no response. His eyes remained downcasted towards the papers he was reading.

“And I also found something about Esme Hadley,” Calix spoke out and this time his words successfully paused his eyes from reading further.

He finally took his head upward and looked at Calix.

“Speak,”

“26 years old, Esme Hadley, has no one in this world except for her four years old daughter, Elea,” he patiently listened to every word of Calix's.

“Esme Hadley used to be a student but couldn't complete her college because she got pregnant while she was in her last year of college and she had suffered some very severe complications during her pregnancy, so she dropped out of her college,” Calix revealed what he had found out about Esme.

Luka keenly heard everything.

“And what about the kid's father?” Calix heard his boss questioning him. He shook his head.

“No, I couldn't find any information regarding who the father of her daughter is. She used to have a fiance but he broke their engagement after she got pregnant and the reason behind that was….she cheated on her fiance with another man and conceived with his child,” hearing Calix, a grin formed on his face.

So his new maid had some dirty secrets? She was not that innocent after all.

“Anything about her family or parents?” He asked. Calix shook his head again.

“Her mother died when she was a kid and about her father, he suddenly went missing a couple of years ago. She or her family never had a financially stable background, and now, she used to work in houses in order to take care of her daughter before she came to your manor and joined work there. That's all I found out about her and her past,” Calix finally ended the story of her past which his boss patiently heard with full attention and interest.

Suddenly a cloud roared loudly. He travelled his eyes towards the glass wall of his office room and saw the dark clouds had already scattered around the evening sky.

His hands clenched the file as his gaze watched those clouds growling.

The voice of Calix’s phone ring made him look away from the sky. He saw Calix taking out his phone.

“Hello…. what? Okay. I will inform him,” Calix hung up the call.

“Boss,” worry engulfed Calix which his grey eyes completely noticed.

“The call was from Maeve. Esme Hadley escaped from your manor with her child,” and the second those words came out of Calix's mouth, his jaw clenched.

His fists curled.

“Lock the entire city if needed," his voice was still calm but Calix knew how dangerous that calmness was and was going to be, especially for that woman, who dared to escape him.

“I want that woman alive in front of me before this night would end,” he ordered.

Calix hurriedly nodded at him and then left his office which made him turn towards the glass wall again.

Closing the file, he stood up on his feet.

The mafia boss walked towards that glass wall and watched the rain which had already started falling. Shiny lights were scattered all over the dark sky, making him dig his nails against his palms.

She chose to fly away from him, even after his warning…so now he would make sure to cut her wings….. with no gentleness.

“You will regret going against my words, woman…..” that nefarious smirk crept back on his face.

Sitting on his chair, Luka was peering down at her lowered head, whose mouth had gotten completely sealed. She had not spoken a single word to him. Luka completely felt that nervousness prevailing in her presence, like he had caught her red-handed.“What do you suggest regarding this person and their betrayal, Esme?” He asked her and witnessed her exhaling a soft sigh in return.Slowly lifting her eyes up, she looked into his eyes.“If they are really relevant to you then you should try to give them one chance to explain themselves because we don't know why they chose to betray you if you both trusted each other a lot,” she replied to him in a gentle tone. He clearly and keenly heard her every word.Luka slowly bobbed his head and resumed his eating.“I will give them a chance to explain themselves,” hearing him, Esme felt like her heart found a little bit of peace. Like, he had decided to give that chance to her.“Do you trust me, Esme?” His sudden question startled Esme. She started

Like a statue, Esme saw him standing right in front of her. His eyes were already on her and they looked blank, empty and numb, unlike the other times when, even in his anger, the warmth from his gaze had never faded for her, so what had happened to that warmth today? What had changed so much in him? And why had it changed? For a brief moment, they both just continued to stare at each other. Esme's heart was telling her to get closer to him and to embrace him in his arms, so that she could feel his softness and his love, but this time, her mind was strictly against it. Her mind was holding back her body from stepping closer to him as it knew….this time, her heart was not looking like it was going to win. Finally, Esme saw him taking his strides inside the hall. His eyes were on her, so she understood he was coming towards her, and this time, his every step which was getting closer and closer to her, it had started filling her with more nervousness and a certain kind of fear, which she

“No…Lea. Bad manners, sweety,” Esme said to her kid, who had started playing with her breakfast instead of eating it. She showed her big eyes to her kid, which made her giggle.Esme chuckled with her daughter too.“Okay now eat,” she uttered and the kid finally started eating.“Mumma, where is your phone?” The kid asked her mother again and Esme's smile faded because she knew why Elea was continuously asking her about her phone. She wanted to show her childhood pictures to her father but Esme knew the uncanny resemblance Elea and his sister, Laya, had…it could ignite that deadly question inside his mind, so for now, Esme was wanting to keep everything under control, not until this threat hanging on their heads would pass.“It’s in my room,” Esme replied to her kid.“Can I go and get your phone? I will show my pictures to uncle,” Esme tensed up more, hearing Elea.“No, you don't have to. I will show them to him on my own. Now eat,” she uttered. “But mumma….”“Elea….” Esme used her sli

Luka wrapped his one arm around her and patted her back.“Good morning, my princess,” he pecked her head.“Where is your mumma?” He asked her. “Mumma went out because aunty Mae was calling her,” the kid informed him. Luka sent her a nod, but then the kid's eyes travelled towards the album he was holding.“Is this a story book, uncle?” the kid asked him, excited, because she loved hearing stories. Luka looked down towards that album in his hold.“It's a book of photos,” he told her. The kid became more curious to know whose photos that book was holding.“Will you show it to me?”
