Once we got in the car, I looked over at Renzo in the passenger seat.

“Can you please stop making stuff up just to get Marco riled up at me? If you keep spinning these stories, you might accidentally feed them to our higher-ups, and then we’ll have to deal with another pointless argument over Marco’s ridiculous jealousy.”

I let out a heavy sigh, shooting Renzo a look as he focused a little too hard on the rear-view mirror.

“I’m not making anything, Ma’am,” he said. “I’m just repeating what he told me.”

“Then why bring Hudson into it at all? There’s nothing going on between us. We’re just friends. Since when is it a crime to have a friendly conversation with someone I trust?”

“It’s not,” he replied, “but it can be a problem if someone’s got hidden motives when they talk to you.”

I frowned, trying to make sense of what he meant. “What are you getting at? Hudson’s been my friend for years. What hidden motives? Don’t overthink my conversations with other men. This is getting ridiculous. M

The two of them just stood there, staring each other down in total silence. I could feel the tension rising, my anxiety creeping in as I watched this silent standoff unfold. It felt like they were having an entire conversation without saying a single word—one I couldn’t hear, but could definitely feel.Hudson was tall, sure—but Marco had him beat, standing even taller and radiating that quiet, commanding energy that always seemed to fill the room when he entered. I clung to Marco’s arm without thinking, and I couldn’t help but notice how solid and strong he felt under my grip. Finally, Hudson broke the stare and turned his attention back to me, forcing a polite smile.“In that case, I’ll let you be. Take care, Maddie.” he said, quietly. He glanced at Marco one last time, then turned and walked away—for good, it seemed.I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding, watching Hudson disappear into the distance, far from Marco’s reach.Trying to shift the mood, I looked up at Mar

Marco and I walked into my office, the smell of lunch hanging in the air. It was obvious he hadn’t eaten yet—he was waiting for me. I didn’t even remember him saying anything about lunch plans."Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?" I asked, calm and straightforward. I had nothing to feel guilty about."Answer me first. Who were you with at the café?" he shot back, repeating the same question from earlier.I let out a sigh. Renzo must’ve said something. He always does this—any time I talk to a guy, even casually, he runs to Marco like it’s some big deal. Like every man around me is a threat."I want to hear it from you," Marco said, walking over to my desk and easi

When I finally remembered that name, my eyes went wide, a mix of surprise and worry rushing through me. My mouth went dry, and I just froze for a second.Hudson. He was a classmate from college, always around, always somehow in my orbit since the moment I stepped onto campus. Sophia and Alec knew him, but it was me he seemed to follow, all the way from freshman year until I graduated. Maybe even after I left. Then, out of nowhere, he and his family disappeared, leaving no real explanation.Back in college, I had guys interested in me, but my focus was on getting my father's approval, so I didn't really pay attention. Hudson was the "almost-boyfriend" suitor that I have. If things had been different, I probably would've said yes to him. But one day, after a cut on my lip, caused by my father, I just couldn’t face him. I was too

As I walked back home feeling down, I made my way straight to the room Marco and I shared. The weight of disappointment was heavy on me, and I just needed to be somewhere familiar. I stepped into the bathroom, hoping to wash away the emotional mess of the day. The mention of spotting by Aunt Mildred had sparked a tiny hope in me, so I decided to take a pregnancy test. But, when I saw the result, it crushed my hopes—no baby, I’m not pregnant yet.Even though I knew the truth, I couldn’t shake the sting of disappointment. The well-meaning words from everyone, telling me there’s still a chance, didn’t help much. They saw how upset I was earlier and were trying to comfort me. But all I could do was sigh and sink into the bed, feeling unmotivated and drained.I sat there, lost in my own thoughts, when I heard

I glanced around and saw the staff were nowhere near us—no one would notice what my foot was up to under the table. Dessert had just arrived, and I’d specifically asked for ice cream because that’s exactly what I wanted.A grin spread across my face when I realized Marco had shifted in his seat to give my foot more room between his thighs. I felt him respond to my little game, and it was all because of me.“It’s your fault,” he mouthed when he caught me watching him. I just smiled back. Scooping up a bit of melting ice cream, I let it drip slowly off my spoon, making sure Marco got the full show.I sensually licked the ice cream from the spoon, eyes locked on his. I noticed his adam’s apple bobbing—he was definitely feeling it.

I couldn’t help but grin when I looked at Marco. It wasn’t just the bracelet he’d given me that had me so happy, but the meaning behind it. Every gift had a deeper significance, showing how sentimental he really was—a quality I absolutely adored about him. With a playful smirk, he motioned for me to follow him, and we walked through the house with my laughter filling the space. As soon as I saw the familiar hallway that led to my room, I couldn’t help but laugh even more.Marco swung the door open, and my smile grew wider with anticipation. I plopped down on the bed while he knelt beside me, giving me that adorable look that made my heart melt.I bit my lip, feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity. There was something unspoken between us, and

I left the office earlier than usual since there wasn’t much to do. With a light workload, I decided to head home. Then I remembered Violet. She’d asked me to come over, even though she’d been back home for a while now. She had security guards keeping an eye on her, but I wasn’t sure if they were really needed anymore, now that Ronan was out of the picture.“Let’s go to Papa’s house,” I told Renzo as we pulled out of the parking lot.Honestly, I hadn’t visited my father in ages—not even when I thought Violet was dead. I knew he’d probably blame me for everything that had happened, and honestly, I thought he might even wish I was the one who had died instead.

At noon, I tried calling Marco, hoping he might have some free time. After a few tries, he finally picked up."Maddie," he said, greeting me."Hey Marco, do you know when you'll be back home?" I asked, eager to find out. I wanted to go to Aunt Aurora's wake at the funeral chapel. Since Carson was still a family friend, I felt it was important to show my support and make sure he was doing okay.I didn’t want to go there by myself, especially knowing how Marco can be. If he wasn’t too busy, I was hoping he’d come with me."Sometime around 6 pm, why?" Marco asked."I saw in the paper this morning that Carson’s mom passed away," I said. "I thought it would be nice to go. I just wanted to see if you're free tonight or if you’ve got other plans. I was thinking it might be nice if we go there together."There was a long pause, and I felt a little anxious, wondering if Marco was going to say no. He wasn’t exactly a fan of Carson. Just hearing his name seemed to set Marco off, and I worried th
