Four weeks passed into a blur. At first, the rhythm was unbearably exhausting and drove me to the edge of my physical abilities. I nearly threw up and fainted multiple times and I considered calling it quits. That's to the extent it has broke me. But I couldn't. No matter how hard they pushed me. I won't give up on finding him. But on the bright side, my endurance has increased overtime and I'm getting better at sparring these days. When the captain caught me on my challenge, I thought I would never get far with it but as he told me, it's only mind games and once I learnt the rules, it's a lot easier. He has no intention of making me buff just focusing on my strengths and giving coping mechanism for my weaknesses. He mainly focused on my speed and my aim. “It's time for the morning meeting,” the newcomer announces in a gruff, unwelcoming voice. He's Lieutenant Viktor. The Captain's right hand man. Or more like a persistent shadow. I prefer the Captain's company. No, not company. He's not here to be my friend obviously but I prefer his guidance and training to Viktor’s. Viktor glanced my way with a harsh look. He always regards me like I'm some dirt under his shoes. Hell, like I'm not even worthy to be under his shoes. He starts moving down the hall and I follow behind. We arrive at a room where breakfast is served. I took my own portion of bland food and sit on an empty bench. I craned my head to catch a glimpse of the special ops table. They are all dressed in black, a sharp contrast to our green uniforms. Some are young, cheerful. Some have harsh exterior like Viktor's. Some have loyal, welcoming exterior. Anton clicks his tongue then whispers some bullshit about them not being really Russian. Another talked about them leaving very soon and that piqued my interest. They were leaving? Turns out, they wanted to recruit some soldiers for their own use. This was my chance to get in and find my husband. I needed to get into his army of personal recruits. The meeting will start in a few minutes time and this might determine my stand. The chatter dies down and everyone stands and salutes. I follow suit as the special ops and our unit stride in, following the major and general lieutenant. I can't help but be drawn to him. Rhys Morozov. That's his name. He's the tallest of the bunch and he has this mystic aura that's impossible to miss. His purposeful strides eats up the distance as he approach us. For some reason, he seems like the most authoritarian figure here, the most commanding too. “At ease,” Our Captain says once they are all at the podium overlooking the entire hall. A collective lowering of hands echoes in the room, followed by a deafening silence. “As you all know, the special operation unit was with us for a special collaborative training but this has presently come to an end.” He announced in a semi bored tone. “The known information is that the squad will be leaving in two days and their prime objective to scout recruits. He has observed each and every one of you and will be picking the best five who will leave with his unit.” He then salutes the Captain who climbs the podium. Captain Rhys calls the first man, a buff guy great in hand to hand combat that even Anton doesn't go near him. Then the second, then third and fourth is called. And with each name that isn't mine, my heart falls to my feet. But I don't lose hope just yet. His eye studies the crowd until they fall on me then he calls the last name. Vasily Korosov. I failed. I wasn't among them. I improved. I worked so hard. But I still failed. I blinked back the tears and slowly I backed away. It's time to call quits. “There's one more thing.” He announces. “I asked for five but there's a soldier who's has been improving since I got here and has what it takes to be in my special squad. June Lipovsky, step forward.” The next thing I see is the blurriness of my vision but I hold back the tears of my immense triumph and victory. I don't know how I managed it but I did. I salute the Captain. I looked into hie eyes that looked like that if an Arctic wolf. There was no approval in them, just cold and emotionless. The Lieutenant congratulates us but my eyes were on him. My new Captain. They say he comes from a shady family that deals in shady business. Even his enlistment here is shrouded in mystery and reeks of unusual circumstances. But I'm ready to forget all that and focus on becoming strong enough to find my husband. I caught a glimpse of Anton’s open-mouthed expression that reminded me of a fish outside water. The congratulatory party went on for hours with the recruits drinking and dancing. Captain Rhys and Viktor was nowhere to be found either. I took out my burner phone from my waistband and headed towards the bathroom. “I'm in,” I typed. I took a deep exhale. It was time.JUNEMy mind goes blank. The worst part isn’t my lack of reaction or thinking. It’s how suddenly my body takes charge of the situation. The moment I was pulled inside, I didn't go into a hypertensed mode for a fight. It’s beyond that. I recognise the touch and drown in the familiar masculine strength that I couldn’t grow immune to even if I tried. The door closes with a quiet click, and then I’m pushed inside. The feral strength of his power leaves me breathless with no choice but to match his steps. Or try to. He’s too fast and too unpredictable and that awakens something in me.My calf hits a hard edge, and I gasp as I stumble straight onto the soft surface of the mattress. Then he’s on me. His hand imprisoned my wrists over my head, and his knees lie on either side of my stomach.I got the first look of his face since he ambushed me, and I wished I hadn’t. It’s tight and blank. I can't even read his thoughts or anything in fact. There’s nothing scarier than a calm Rhys. I opned
JuneDespite the state of emergency, I could hug whoever interrupted us.But then again, that's the same thing that could put the person’s life in danger. Rhys turns around and leaves for the control room which gives me enough time to compose myself but follows after. But even after I reached the area, I remained at the further end of the room to avoid attention. I find Anatoly scanning the security footage and examining the package there. Viktor then left to inspect the package, a large duffel bag to be precise.“Rewind the security footage again" Rhys orders. “Viktor, don't touch that package just yet.”“Yes sir.” The guard replies and Antoly rewinds the video going back to five minutes ago. A black van screeched to an abrupt stop in front of the mansion and a few guards fired at it and there was no dent meaning that the van must be bulletproof. The occupants tossed out the duffel bag and sped off.Rhys perches beside Antoly and rewinds the footage a few seconds, then pauses at the
JUNE“Who was the man you were speaking to over the phone?”The more I stare into his unforgiving eyes, the dryer my mouth goes. Confusion etched over my face. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”“Last chance.”One second. Two. Three. He then pulls me closer to himself, his arms wrapping around my waist. I thought he moved on from verbal intimidation to physical intimidation and I waited for the blow or shake but it didn’t come.Instead he reaches inside my gun holster, I only realise what his plan was after he puts the phone out of my reach. Every cell goes on alert, and I leap up to grab it, but he effortlessly keeps it out of reach. With the phone in the air, he stares at me with his cold gaze. The one every member of the organisation dreads to see. “Please give it back.” I implore, reaching for it. “I have given you so many chances to divulge who the fuck you’re hiding. It’s not my fault that you’re stubborn and I have to resort to this method.”“So I’m not allowed privacy?
JUNEThe training for the entire week was intense. Rhys woke us up at five in the morning and took us out to a harbour. He tossed us all into the cold water with our hands tied behind our back. We stayed there till sunrise, cold and freezing and worse without any pants on.I wasn’t going to let them belittle my abilities because I’m a woman so I too stripped down much to Rhys dismay. I waited for the others to climb out before I did and when I did, he immediately tied his jacket to my waist hiding my ass from the onlookers. I immediately went to seek warmth in the midst of the men there and Rhys didn’t take it lightly but sped the speedboat tossing us aside. When we got back, we immediately went on track, running around improving our cardio. The familiar scent of Mark whiffed past me and I stopped in my tracks. Yuri passed ahead of me carrying that scent. Sure, Yuri had the perfect build of my husband. He had a sweet smile and incredible build. Mark carried not only that, a charmi
Rhys“Are you perhaps...gay?”That almost surprised me until I remember that in the presence of the organisation she has to be dressed in a certain way. Nobody here appreciates a female guard. And from her point of view, I was so busy thinking of how to make Rita believe she’s fucking crazy that I didn’t consider this angle. It would be nearly impossible to make her go crazy, considering it would take careful planning, effort and most importantly, time which I clearly don’t have. “What if I am?” I ask casually.“Nothing to it, I guess.” She lifts her shoulders, and then smirks. “At least that’s what I think but that isn’t what the organisation thinks. They tend to be very old fashioned and I’m not sure they’ll take this information neutrally.”“Your point?”She uncrosses her arms and approaches me with confident strides. Then I stopped a few paces from me. “I can keep this a secret if you do something for me.”“And what is that?” I have to say that I admire the way she turned the tab
RhysRita Sokolov. My would-be bride has the complete view of the situation. I don’t have to see June’s expression to know how stiff she is right now. Rita’s unfocused eyes narrows on us as she sways on her feet, the sound of her heels scraping on the ground amplified tenfold in the imposing silence. That seemed to kick June out of her stupor, because she responds to my tightening hold around her waist and abruptly ducks down and crawls under the desk. The fucking cockblocker Rita doesn’t look away from my half-nude state so, to be a dick, pun intended, I look into her dazed eyes and tucked myself in slowly.Again, I don’t have to look into June’s eyes to know how distressed she was right now. I only have two options. Option one is to shoot Rita between her eyes and bury her body so deep that no one would find her and hide any evidence that she came in here.Option two is to torture the fucking piece of shit and when I’m done that’s when I’ll kill her. Choices...choices“Was that...”
