Chapter 2

Author: Oatmeal Porridge
The instant the dagger was about to sink into my skin, I twisted my body hard. The blade grazed past my shoulder, slicing open a bloody gash.

"Hah, how dare you dodge!" Giovanna shouted furiously and slapped me across the face. "Hold her down!"

Two of her friends increased their grip, pinning my arms flat against the floor. Another woman pulled out a cigar, lit it, and pressed it straight onto my arm.

A sharp sizzling sound filled the air. The stench of burned flesh spread as my whole body convulsed in pain, cold sweat soaking through my clothes in seconds.

"Talk! What tricks did you use to seduce Fabrizio?" Giovanna held the dagger, the tip pressed under my chin.

"I didn't," I said, my voice shaking from the pain. "Ten years ago, the Camorras kidnapped him. I blew up a car to save him. How could I ever seduce my own son?"

"Keep making things up. Go on," Giovanna sneered. The dagger in her hand slashed hard across my cheek. "I've seen photos of Liliana. She was a hundred times prettier than you! A plastic freak like you doesn't even deserve to talk about her."

Agonizing pain flared across my face. Blood streamed down my jaw and dripped onto the floor.

Just then, footsteps sounded at the doorway. A scar-faced man walked in.

It was Enzo Cerri, Fabrizio's most trusted Capo. His father had once been my personal bodyguard.

"Enzo, save me," I said with difficulty, as if I had grabbed onto my last lifeline.

Enzo froze for a moment and stared at my face for a long time, his brows drawn tight. "How do you know my name?"

"I'm Liliana. I held you when you were a baby," I said urgently.

Before he could respond, Giovanna beat him to it and shoved the burning cigar into my mouth. I screamed as searing pain tore through my tongue, leaving me unable to speak.

"Enzo, don't listen to her nonsense," Giovanna said, pointing at me. "She's a liar. She's bait sent by a rival family, trying to dig up our secrets."

Enzo's gaze flickered as he crouched down to examine me. "Your voice and your eyes do look a bit like the late Donna."

"So what if they do?" Giovanna snatched the gun from Enzo's hand and aimed it at me. "Her passport says Ella. She's only 38. If Liliana were alive, she'd be 50 by now. Isn't that obvious enough?"

She gave an order. "Search her bag! I want to see what else she's hiding."

One of the women pulled out my fake passport and handed it to Enzo.

He studied the photo and information, his expression gradually turning cold. "Your name is Ella, not Liliana."

"Fabrizio changed my name to protect me." I shook my head desperately. The wound in my mouth tore open again, blood pouring out. "He was afraid of traitors coming after me. That's why I had to live under a fake identity."

"Still lying!" Giovanna said impatiently as she raised the dagger. "Since you won't tell the truth, guess I'll have to force it out of you."

The dagger pointed straight at my throat. I could feel death breathing down my neck.

Just then, Enzo suddenly reached out and stopped her. "Wait. Don Medici isn't back yet. He needs to decide this himself."

"Let him decide?" Giovanna raised an eyebrow. "You think he'd believe this old woman's nonsense?"

"No matter what, we can't kill her," Enzo said firmly. "Don Medici is extremely sensitive about anything related to the Donna. If she really has some kind of background, we can't afford the consequences."

Giovanna shot me a vicious glare and put the dagger away. "Fine! We'll let her live for now. When the Don gets here, we'll see how he deals with this liar."

Three days later, Fabrizio held a grand celebration for my return as Donna. The event took place at the Medicis' private chapel.I wore a black vintage suit, my left shoulder revealing the fully restored family eagle crest tattoo. Holding Fabrizio's arm, I slowly walked into the chapel. All the mafia family leaders of Southwold rose to their feet in greeting, their eyes filled with reverence.Above the altar hung the Medicis' banner. The black flag was embroidered with a golden Holbeck eagle and roses, a symbol of the family's honor.Holding my hand, Fabrizio led me to the altar. He picked up the microphone and declared loudly, "Today, I'm announcing to everyone that the true Donna of the Medicis, Liliana Medici, has officially returned."Thunderous applause filled the chapel and refused to fade.I took the microphone and swept my gaze across the crowd, my voice steady and firm. "Ten years ago, I chose to fake my death to protect my family and my son. Ten years later, I'm back.

Fabrizio froze for a split second, then his eyes hardened with resolve. "Alright."We rushed downstairs, only to find the living room had already turned into a battlefield.Armed men from the Valerys sprayed gunfire wildly with submachine guns. Our soldiers took cover behind couches and pillars, firing back. Blood splattered across the walls and floor. The air was thick with gun smoke and the stench of iron."Mamma, cover me. I'm taking out their boss!" Fabrizio said. With both guns in hand, he rolled behind a couch and dropped two enemies with clean shots.I braced myself at the staircase landing and raised my sidearm. Drawing on the tactical instincts from my years leading the family, I locked onto a sniper at a second-floor window and pulled the trigger. The bullet tore through the air, and the sniper fell instantly."The Donna's back!" The soldiers downstairs roared in excitement when they saw me fire, their morale surging. The Valerys' Don, Roberto Valery, spotted

  • The Donna’s Return   Chapter 7

Early the next morning, Giovanna was dragged out by force and shoved into a black sedan headed for Southwold Harbor.I sat in the front passenger seat, watching the scenery rush past outside the window. There wasn't a trace of pity in my heart, only the calm that came with a long-awaited reckoning. The car stopped at the Medicis' private dock. A speedboat was already waiting there.Fabrizio hauled Giovanna onto the deck and ordered his men to chain her tightly to a metal drum filled with concrete. The sea wind howled, whipping her hair into a mess. As she stared at the pitch-black ocean ahead, real fear finally showed on her face."N-No, please! Fabrizio, I'm sorry, I really am! Please spare me! I'll do anything to make it up to you!""Make it up to me?" Fabrizio sneered. He pulled the family pendant from his pocket, the same one she had ripped off me before. "When you hurt my mother, did you ever think about making it up to her?"He placed the pendant back around my neck, h

The moment the blade came down, I instinctively closed my eyes, but I didn't hear the scream I expected.Instead, there was a sharp ripping sound. A deep gash opened across Giovanna's cheek. Blood burst out immediately and ran down her chin, dripping onto the floor."Aaaah! My face…!" Giovanna clutched her wound and rolled across the floor in agony. "Fabrizio, how dare you! My family won't let this go!""Your family?" Fabrizio sneered and turned to Enzo. "Drag her four little henchwomen down to the basement and punish them the Medici way. Let them learn what happens when they lay a hand on the Donna!"Enzo obeyed at once. With two men, he hauled the four women, who were shaking uncontrollably, straight downstairs. Before long, screams rose from the basement, one after another. There was the sizzling sound of cigars burning flesh, the dull thud of blades slicing into skin, and the piercing shrieks that came with broken fingers. It was enough to make anyone's scalp crawl.Fabrizi

"Mamma…" Fabrizio's voice trembled as he rushed over and pulled me out of the storage cabinet, wrapping me tightly in his arms.He tore the cloth from my mouth. The taste of blood and the pain nearly made me pass out, yet I still forced out the last bit of strength to call his nickname. "Rizzo…"That single word was like lighting a fuse.Fabrizio's eyes instantly shifted from shock to something vicious and unhinged. He gently set me down on the floor, then turned and grabbed the still stunned Giovanna by the collar. He clamped his hand around her throat with such force that her tongue stuck out and her face turned purple."Did you do this?" Fabrizio's voice was terrifyingly low, every word squeezed out through clenched teeth. "Who the hell gave you the nerve to touch my mother?""H-Honey, you've got it wrong," Giovanna gasped, clawing at his wrist and struggling desperately. "She's a liar. She was pretending to be your mother. I was helping you get rid of an undercover threat.

  • The Donna’s Return   Chapter 4

The moment Giovanna heard the footsteps, her face changed completely. She turned to her friends in a panic. "Quick, hide her! Don't let Fabrizio see her!"The women fumbled as they unlocked the chains on my wrists and dragged me toward the kitchen storage cabinet. The chains scraped against my wounds, and the pain nearly made me pass out. They shoved me inside the cabinet, locked the door with the chains, and stuffed a cloth into my mouth so I couldn't make a sound."Make a noise, and I'll kill you," Giovanna hissed, pressing herself against the cabinet door as she threatened me.The cabinet was pitch-black. The cramped space made it hard to breathe, and the pain from my injuries grew worse by the second. Blood trickled down my body and pooled on the cabinet floor.Soon, the villa's front door opened, and Fabrizio's voice came from outside. "Giovanna? Why are you here?""I just wanted to take a look at our future home and start planning a bit," Giovanna said, forcing her voice i
