Chapter 6: The forbidden scent

The metallic scent of fresh blood and ozone still hung thick and suffocating in the stagnant air of the prep room, but a fraction of a second later, that metallic tang was obliterated by a wave of pure, intoxicating madness that hit the senses like an open flame roaring through a dry forest.

Asher was a shattered wreck sprawled across the cold tiled floor.

His body thrashed and writhed wildly against the unyielding ground, rolling and twisting in an agonizing, desperate attempt to escape the liquid fire burning deep inside his veins.

His fingernails scraped across the cold tiles until several of them cracked, thin streaks of blood smearing across the floor. Every desperate breath only dragged more of the intoxicating scent into the room, making the suffocating air even heavier.

Every inch of his pale skin was flushed a brilliant, feverish crimson, drenched in a heavy, freezing sweat that made his dark hair stick wildly to his forehead, temples, and cheeks.

In the brutal throes of this entirely unanticipated, agonizing Heat, his trembling fingers clawed frantically at his own throat, tearing and tugging ruthlessly at the buttons of his white shirt until they popped off one by one, pinging against the floor and scattering into the dark corners. His chest was left completely exposed—heaving violently, sweat-slicked, and glistening under the harsh, dim yellow light, laying bare his trembling collarbones and a frantic, wildly racing pulse that hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird.

He looked utterly undone by his own betraying biology—panting like a drowning man gasping for a final, impossible breath, caught in a merciless purgatory of spiking fever and raw, unrelenting ache. Every muscle in his body contracted and relaxed in painful, disjointed spasms as the overwhelming heat surged through his bloodstream like molten lava, stealing away his thoughts and leaving only raw instinct behind.

Above him, the heavy click of the iron door lock echoed through the silence like a final, unappealable sentence, sealing them both inside a world removed from reality.

Killian froze dead in his tracks, the momentum of his entrance dying instantly.

The dominant Alpha's broad chest rose and fell in heavy, ragged intervals, his striking golden irises completely swallowed by a pitch-black void of pure, untamed instinct. As his eyes adjusted to the shadows and locked onto the writhing, half-unbuttoned, fever-bright form of the Beta on the floor, the world stopped spinning entirely.

Killian's jaw slacked for a fraction of a second, the arrogant, untouchable smirk vanishing completely from his chiseled face, replaced instantly by a hollow, profound shock. His breath hitched sharply in his throat, cutting off any ruthless word he had intended to spit out.

No...

His mind violently reeled, rejecting the impossible reality flashing right before his eyes. The intoxicating, legendary fragrance of Celestial Sovereign Butterfly and Crimson Starlight Nectar wasn't drifting from some hidden intruder or an expensive perfume bottle. It was radiating straight off the skin of the shivering, disheveled creature gasping and rolling on the floor in front of him. It was a scent so rare, so ancient, and so deeply addictive that it defied every known law of secondary genders.

For the first time in years, Killian forgot to breathe. His heartbeat pounded once—hard enough to shake even his iron composure. Nothing in his life had prepared him for the impossible sight before him.

"A... Asher?" Killian's voice dropped into a low, breathless, utterly shattered whisper that barely carried across the room. The ruthless billionaire heir, the terrifying predator of the campus, felt the floor drop out from under him. "You... you're an Omega?"

Their eyes met. One pair burned with fever, desperation, and hatred. The other with stunned disbelief and a possessive instinct that refused to be silenced.

Killian's eyes rolled back slightly, a dark, primal growl ripping out of the depths of his chest as his own burnt-cedar and mint aura flared violently in response, turning fierce, heavy, and overwhelmingly possessive.

Centuries of ancient Alpha instinct completely bypassed every shred of his logic. The creature writhing on the floor before him—half-naked, flushed, weeping with fever, and utterly vulnerable—wasn't just any Omega. It was the bitter rival who had broken his nose, the defiant insect who had dared to spit in his face in front of the entire university.

And right now, his body was screaming that this bleeding, beautiful, maddening ruin belonged entirely to him. Every protective, dominant fiber of his being demanded that he step forward, conquer, and claim.

"Get... get away from me..." Asher choked out, his voice weak, trembling, and laced with a fierce, desperate defiance even in total agony. With a final, shaking surge of strength, he tried to kick out or shove against Killian's heavy boots as the Alpha stepped closer, but his limbs lacked all power, sliding uselessly against the polished leather. His vision swam with gold and crimson spots as the fever threatened to swallow his consciousness whole.

He shoved at Killian's shoulder again, nails digging into the expensive fabric of his suit. His body had no strength left, but his pride refused to surrender.

Killian didn't back away. Instead, a dark, dangerous possessiveness twisted his features, his expression morphing into something truly feral and consuming.

He dropped heavily onto his knees right beside Asher, completely ignoring the frantic thrashing. His large, warm hand shot out like a vice, wrapping securely around Asher's burning jaw and forcing his flushed, tear-stained face upward into the dim light.

"Look at you," Killian rasped, his voice dropping into a low, predatory hum that sent a violent shock straight down Asher's spine. His blazing eyes tracked slowly down the open buttons of Asher's shirt, tracing the frantic rise and fall of his damp, heaving chest before snapping fiercely back to his wild, dilated eyes. "You hid this from the entire university... you let them think you were a weak little Beta... all while keeping this burning alive under your skin?"

"I said... back off—" Asher gasped, his eyes flashing with venomous hatred as he tried to twist his head away from the suffocating grip, his teeth biting hard against his lower lip until a drop of bright blood appeared against his pale skin.

"Quiet," Killian commanded, injecting a crushing, absolute layer of Alpha authority into his voice.

The command slammed down on Asher's chest like a physical weight, forcing a breathless, broken moan from his lips. But Asher refused to yield, glaring up at him with unyielding, blazing defiance even as his body arched against his will in pure, helpless need.

Killian stared down at him, caught in a chaotic, volatile storm of fury, disbelief, and a blinding, addictive hunger that terrified even him. Slowly, he leaned down, his lips brushing against the sensitive, burning skin right beside Asher's ear, his hot breath sending an agonizing wave of pleasure and dread through Asher's trembling frame.

"You punched me, Valentine," Killian whispered darkly, his hand sliding down from Asher's jaw to grip his waist, dragging him flush against his chest despite the frantic, weak thrashing. "You thought you could defy me and walk away. But the gods have a twisted sense of humor."

Killian's pitch-black eyes burned into Asher's terrified, fever-bright gaze as he locked them both inside the dark, isolated room, shutting out the rest of the world entirely.

"You're trapped in my cage now," Killian murmured against his skin, his voice dripping with absolute, inescapable dominance. "And I'm never letting you out."

The Aston Martin rolled through a set of towering iron gates just past midnight, gravel crunching beneath its tires as it wound along a long, tree-lined driveway toward a mansion that looked like it belonged to old money rather than a disgraced architect scraping by on spite. Asher barely registered any of it, his fever-hazed mind drifting in and out of consciousness against the leather seat, but even in his half-delirious state, some distant part of him noted the size of the place — the sprawling stone facade, the dark figures stationed near the gates, silent and still as statues.Julian carried him inside without a word, moving through the grand foyer and up a curved staircase with practiced ease, as though he'd done this a hundred times before, though Asher was in no state to question it. He was laid down gently on a wide, soft bed in a spacious room that smelled faintly of cedarwood and old books, the sheets cool against his burning skin."Stay still," Julian murmured, disappearin

Killian burst out of the exhibition hall's side exit just in time to see the tail lights of a matte-black Aston Martin DBS flare to life in the deserted parking lot beyond the courtyard. Julian moved with brutal efficiency, wrenching open the rear door and laying Asher's trembling, fevered body across the back seat with a gentleness that made Killian's blood boil even hotter than the fury already consuming him. Within seconds, Julian had slid into the driver's seat, the engine roaring to life with a low, predatory growl that seemed to mock Killian directly."Julian!" Killian's voice tore through the empty lot, raw and commanding. It meant nothing here. The Aston Martin's tires screeched against the pavement, throwing up a spray of loose gravel as it peeled out of the lot and vanished into the pre-dawn darkness beyond the campus gates, leaving nothing behind but the fading growl of its engine.Killian stood frozen for a long moment, his fists clenched tightly at his sides, his black ey
