The dining room remained quiet. Plates and cups had been pushed aside, leaving space for Liora’s hands as they absently stroked her belly. She looked relaxed—almost too relaxed—after the lighthearted talk about Max. Xavier sat across from her, posture straight, eyes as vigilant as ever.

“Xavier,” Liora said softly, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips. “Can I be a little honest?”
