Dangerous Grounds

Hugh sighed tiredly, he felt X was a disturbance to him, but he couldn't even hang up the call on him. He quickly cut X off, "I know what I'm doing. I prefer it here than to stay with those hypocrites over there." Hugh explained, keeping his words subtle.

The driver was looking at Hugh through the mirror above him. X sighed over the phone, deciding to drop the topic, but he said, "I would not be there when anything happens. I will dump you fair and square." X sounded like a lover to Hugh now. Hugh chuckled amusedly.

X snorted back at Hugh, deep down in his mind. He knew he couldn't abandon Hugh when anything happens. He had always been helping Hugh, even though he was way older than Hugh. "What do you want to inquire about?" X asked, curiously, since Hugh had not brought it up.

Right at that moment, the driver stopped before an apartment building. Hugh got out of the car and paid the cab driver and walked into the parking lot. He didn't pass through the lobby, preferring to use the elevator in the parking lot. Hugh liked the way privacy was prioritized.

No other occupant knew who was staying at the penthouse and no one else could ride the elevator to Lucia's floor. False information was also provided to the management. Hugh was still on the phone, he thought that it wasn't safe to talk in the elevator. There were cameras.

"I'll talk to you in two minutes." Hugh said, hanging up the call. In one minute, Hugh got to the top floor and got into the penthouse. He quickly dialed X's number, the penthouse was safe to make confidential calls. It was bug-free and most especially, Lucia wasn't home.

On the second ring, X picked up the call. "Are you ready to talk now?" X said. Surprisingly he wasn't trying to taunt Hugh now, he was extremely patient with him. Hugh took a deep breath, he would have preferred to talk to X physically, but it was risky now.

Most importantly, he couldn't leave Lucia all by herself, for a long time. Hugh walked into Lucia's bedroom while keeping the phone to his ear. "I felt a spark." Hugh said finally. X went quiet on the phone, and Hugh was patiently waiting for his reply. Hugh heard X laugh.

X laughed on the other side of the phone, "Do you mean an electric spark? Were you electrocuted?" X said mockingly, he stopped laughing when he noticed Hugh's silence. X scrunched his brows and said, "If it's the spark associated with having a mate, it's impossible." X's voice was firm.

Hugh was still silent on the phone and he took a deep breath. "Do you think the curse is broken?" Hugh said, a ray of hope shining in his heart. X was quick to dash his hope. "The curse can not be broken, boy." X said, in an elderly tone.

"Then what's with the spark? Why do I feel it?" Hugh said, his hurt could be felt in his voice. He was still in Lucia's bedroom. He walked into her walk-in closet, to take out her disguises. He took out a blonde wig, and a few loose and big clothes.

Hugh also took out a small makeup kit. Lucia would be able to cover her face, with thick makeup. She couldn't walk out of the hospital with a mask on her face, it would give her out. X, on the other side of the phone, was also puzzled.

Hugh was not supposed to feel a spark. X's eyes narrowed, and he asked, "Whom did you feel the spark with?" X asked, he had an inkling of who it was. But he didn't want to jump to a conclusion. Hugh stopped what he was doing, contemplating saying Lucia's name.

"It is Lucia." Hugh said, deciding not to hide any information from X. X knew about Lucia, before now. X had helped Hugh on Lucia's matter, ten years ago. X chuckled dangerously on the phone, "You're treading on dangerous grounds, boy." His voice was serious, with a hint of care.

X was concerned about Hugh. Did the goddess decide to punish Hugh? He wasn't fated to have a mate, due to the curse. Why did he have to feel the most basic emotion, of having a mate? "You can not have anything intimate to do with her, boy." X said.

Hugh nodded grimly on the other side of the call, he knew that he could not have a mate. Then, he wondered why he started to grow to like Lucia, after feeling the spark. "I need to go. Thank you." Hugh said gratefully but his tone and aura were cold.

Hugh hung up the call and tossed his phone into the bag he carried. He had taken everything Lucia would need. He walked into his room, and hurriedly took out a coat and cap. That would be able to cover his face, a little. The coat would hide his physique.

Hugh got out of the penthouse and rode the elevator to the parking lot. Lucia had two cars. The first was still at the company, and if anyone wanted to investigate who owned the car. It would be a dead end. Hugh got into the second car and drove out.

Hugh got to an open restaurant, it wasn't high-end. As Lucia preferred simple meals, he decided to get food there. The restaurant was clean, fast, and efficient. Hugh didn't want to spend too much time, outside. He put on his coat and his cap. It was a perfect disguise.

Hugh walked into the restaurant. He was glad that there were only a few people seated there. He ordered food and it was packed, neatly and beautifully. Hugh was about to walk out when he noticed someone seated at the end of the restaurant. His sharp eyes locked into the person.

Hugh continued to look at the person, whose sight was focused on something else. Hugh was a bit glad that the person hadn't seen him. "What the fuck is he doing here?" Hugh muttered to himself. His cold aura turned more cold and scary. Hugh detested that person, so much.

"Is something going on over there?" Hugh asked himself. He was conflicted about why that person was here in the human world. "I need to camouflage my scent. He would not be able to follow my scent, in any possible way." Hugh said to himself, wanting to take proper precautions.

Even if the said person had caught on to Hugh's scent. He would not be able to follow Hugh's scent, because his scent would become mixed with different people. As he drove on the busy streets. But Hugh didn't even want that person to smell him, or follow his trail.

Hugh got to the hospital, he had spent almost an hour away from the hospital, at home. Hugh noticed that more reporters had come to lurk around the hospital. "Another false news must have leaked out." Hugh murmured to himself. He drove into the hospital's parking lot, provided for visitors.

Hugh still had his disguise on, as he got out of the car. He carried a black bag in one hand and a portion of packed food in the other hand. The security guards looked at him suspiciously, as he walked into the hospital's lobby. Hugh did not want any unnecessary attention.

He walked to the guard. Putting the packed food and the bag, in one hand. He stood before the guard, his figure towering over the guard. Hugh removed his baseball cap and showed his face to the guard. The guard nodded in realization at Hugh, understanding what Hugh was doing.

Hugh was allowed to walk freely into the hospital's lobby. He caught sight of Lucas still sitting in the waiting area. Some of the shareholders had left in anger and disappointment. The more greedy shareholders were still hovering around Lucas, hoping to see the CEO. Lucas looked tired and bored.

Hugh walked up to Lucas, ignoring the shareholders. He stood before Lucas and said, "Follow me." And then he turned to walk toward the elevator. Lucas was a bit surprised, and he looked from Hugh's back to the shareholders, who were puzzled. They heard what Hugh had said to Lucas.

The receptionist looked at Lucas in suspicion. She would have stopped him if she didn't see Hugh leading him. The receptionist had seen Hugh when grandpa James was wheeled in. She had also been keeping up with the news. She was a bit bewildered at how facts could be twisted.

By now, Hugh has removed his cap. She had information about grandpa James' record. A record she wasn't supposed to have access to, but she had her ways. She knew that what was on the news was false. She turned to glance at the shareholders, by now she had figured out who they were.
