Lindsey
I sigh for the umpteenth time as I poke my fork into my cheesecake. Normally, I love desserts, but not today.
I glance around the ballroom at all the people dressed in formal attire as the air thickens, almost to the point I can’t breathe.
From the chair next to me, Bethany nudges my side with her elbow. “Hey, what are you thinking? We are supposed to be mingling with everyone and trying to find our mate. Hurry up and eat your dessert. If we don’t start moving around soon, your parents are going to come drag us around with them.”
She leans in close to me and whispers, “I would rather walk around by ourselves than to be drug around with them. Sorry, I love your parents, but having to be next to them all night and listening to them talk about boring things isn’t my idea of fun.”
I take a deep breath and stab my cheesecake one last time.&
ZackWhile my thumb glides across the back of Bryanna’s soft, smooth hand, I look across the bed at Hunter and Jacob. I raise an eyebrow. “What do you mean, you haven’t been able to figure out what these lunatics want? There has to be something, no matter how small or insignificant it may be. They aren’t attacking us for no reason. Your mothers were able to get that much information out of our prisoner.”My thumb presses a little harder against the back of my mate’s hand as I latch onto her comforting warmth, trying sooth my growing rage.Hunter shrugs his shoulders and glances beside himself to Jacob. “We have looked through everything, but we can’t seem to find the one thing that would drive someone to repeatedly attack your pack.”I take a deep breath and blow steam out. “There is something you are overlooking. You need to
BryannaThe darkness continues to surround me, but Zack’s warm touch lets me know he is often close to me. His touches keep my hope alive as I continue to struggle to find a way out of here. There has to be some way. I won’t give up trying, no matter what.A chill suddenly runs down my back as a strong wave of anger slams up against me. What is happening out there?Zack’s warmth on my hand has faded. I only have my memory now of what it feels like. With every fiber in my body, I cling to that memory. I glance down at my hand as the thought of the delicious tingles ignites the same sensation now, but without his warmth.Rage suddenly consumes me as my heart aches.Something isn’t right. I need to get back and help.I muster up every ounce of energy I have and ball my hands into fists as I scream as loud as I can. &ldqu
ZackI burst through the trees and land in a small clearing. Jacob and Hunter follow right behind me.I’m greeted with chaos and take a moment to scan the area. Realization quickly sinks in there are a lot more intruders than in previous attacks. Usually, when they come, they have a smaller number of werewolves, which we can handle right away. But not this time. There are at least 30 rogues swarming the area and only about 15 of us, but I don’t let that deter me.I crouch down, ready to attack. My black glossy fur stands upright as a growl rips through me.I’m only giving them one warning before I pick my target.A yelp suddenly rings out as the copter smell of blood fills my nose. My head instantly whips in the direction of the noise.A large brown wolf towers over a small little wolf. My blood instantly boils. The s
ZackDid Bryanna wake up? Is that what it means to have these feelings flood through our connection? Please, let it mean she is awake. My heart hammers against my chest as I continue to pray to the moon goddess for my mate to be awake while I sprint as fast as I can. I desperately want to look into her gorgeous green eyes again. As I jump through the edge of the trees, the pack house isn’t too far from me now. I take a moment and glance around. No one has emerged from the underground bunkers yet. The outside door to the bunker only allows people to leave, but it is designed for safety purposes so no one can get in from the outside. Instead, I must enter the bunker from one of the hidden entrances within the buildings.I bolt through the front door of the pack house, shifting back to my human form right before I reach the entrance. From behind me, Hunter grunts
Little jolts of electricity shoot along my lips and pull me from the darkness. I slowly open my eyes. Unlike before, when I woke up alone, I’m now surrounded by a room full of people. A smile explodes across my face when I look up and into my mate’s sparkling blue eyes. I’ve missed seeing those gorgeous eyes. His eyes glisten as his large hands cup my face while he leans down towards me. My stomach flutters as his deep voice softly chimes, “I’m glad you are back.” My heart skips a beat. I’m glad to be back, too. Before I can reply, he captures my lips in a passionate kiss, while everyone else in the room fades away. The only thing I can hear is our quick heartbeats beating in time with each other. His warmth seeps into my mouth and then radiates throughout my body, igniting a yearning for more than just his lips. Cough… Cough… I put my hand on his firm chest and relu
LindseyI sit silently with my back facing Bethany in the car, giving her the cold shoulder. Why does she constantly block me from having some fun? All she has to do is say no and I would have gone off by myself. But noooooooo….She came along and then always made some stupid comment or dumb remark about my parents or my brothers which would chase the man candy away.UGH…. All I want is a little bit of fun. Plus, we haven’t found our mates. At this rate we never will have sex. She may be find with it, but I’m certainly not.All our friends have either found their mates or have found a partner to be with. We are the last two and everyone knows we are still virgins. This trip may have been for my parents to try and find us mates, but for me, it is my chance to finally become a real woman and enjoy having someone fondling me while we become one
Zack “What do you mean, Lindsey is still out in the forest somewhere?” I look across the table at my parents. Sadness instantly fills their eyes while their concern is etched across their faces. I press my lips together and stare at them while I fight the urge to tell them I have finally found my mate. To keep Bryanna’s secret safe, Blake and I have promised to not tell anyone. So instead of proudly showing off my mating mark to them like I’ve always dreamed of, I’m hiding it as if it is something to be ashamed of. My upper lip slightly curls as my shirt’s collar digs into my neck, feeling more like a rough noose than a dress shirt. My fingers twitch and itch to pull the fabric down and away from me. But I fight against the urge. My father sighs and shakes his head. “I don’t know. We tried to ask her what was going on, but neither her nor Beth would say anything. Even now, Beth isn’t telling us anything. We could tell something had happened between the girls, but w
Zack My heart races as I jump over a bush and dart through the trees. Where can my sister be? I swear we have searched every inch of our pack lands, but we still haven’t gotten any clues as to where she is hiding. Maybe she isn’t in our territory anymore. I shake my head. No. She wouldn’t venture out on her own, but where can she be? I duck under a low branch as my paws pound against the ground. Dirt flies behind me while I continue to run as fast as I can. My legs suddenly wobble, and my breath hitches as I slow down a little. How long have I been out here? I can’t remember. The sun has set, and the sky is now turning dark. I need to stop for the night, but I don’t want to. I need to find her first before I can go back home. My wolf whines, “Let’s head to the stream up ahead and rest for a bit. Maybe we can catch a fish and eat too. We have been at this for hours without finding anything, not even her scent. It is time for us to rest for a bit and eat.” I don
