7. My Bodyguard

"What was that all about?" I confronted my mother after Daniel left.

Mom tilts her eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"

"You were all over Daniel. Asking him a million questions. Who hired you to be my wing woman?"

"A wing woman!" mom exclaims. "I don't know what you are talking about."

"You were asking Daniel if he is single, and then you told him I am single. So you were clearly trying to play Cupid," I say irritably.

"Oh sweetheart, why do you always make things about yourself? I was doing no such thing. I was only asking Daniel questions to make him feel more comfortable with us. You know, getting him to talk about himself more."

"Why do you care?" I demand to know.

"He just seems like a very nice, quiet kid. I felt bad." mom shrugs.

"I think you made him more uncomfortable by all those questions," I said.

"You don't know that. Besides, I was asking him if he was seeing anybody, and that could mean a girl too, so I was basically asking him if he had a girlfriend. Pretty standard
