The Five-Million Love Nest Chapter 9
Three months later, the court publicly announced its verdict in the fraud case against Vance and Margot.Vance, as the principal offender, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison for a large-scale fraud offense.Margot, as an accomplice, was also convicted in connection with other fraud cases and received an aggregate sentence of five years in prison.I didn't go to the sentencing. I saw the outcome on the news. When I saw Vance on the screen with his hands cuffed and his head hanging low, I turned off the television. It was all over.Grandma El recovered very well and was already able to get out of bed and walk.I sold the little house in my hometown and moved with Grandma El to a coastal city in the south. The climate was warm and perfect for her recovery. With the money I had, I bought a small villa by the sea with a yard. I filled the yard with the flowers and plants Grandma El loved.Every morning, I walked along the beach with her, listening to the waves and

That afternoon, I received a call from Officer Williams."Lucy, Margot is suspected of transferring the proceeds of the fraud. We've opened an investigation. Also, Bridget knowingly helped conceal the crime, so she'll be investigated as well."I looked at the sunlight streaming through the window and quietly said, "Thank you, Officer Williams."In the end, people who do wrong have to face the consequences....Half a month later, there was new progress in the case. While out on bail, Margot tried to run away with the $120,000 diamond necklace Vance had left with her. She was caught by the police at the train station. After a deeper investigation, the police discovered that Margot hadn't only deceived Vance. She had also been maintaining improper relationships with two other men at the same time. Most of the $300,000 had been used to pay off the gambling debts of one of those men. When Vance learned about it in the detention center, he completely broke down. He requested to see

Vance collapsed completely into his chair. He had lost his fiancée, his house, and now even the money he'd scammed was gone. For the sake of a woman who had lied to him from beginning to end, he'd destroyed his own life.…Three days later, Grandma El's condition finally stabilized, and she was transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular hospital room. The weight I'd been carrying in my chest finally lifted. At noon, I was feeding Grandma El some soup when the hospital room door was suddenly shoved open.Vance's parents, Prescott and Giselle Dalton, stormed in with Bridget following behind them, looking frantic. The moment Giselle entered, she pointed at my face and started screaming, "Lucy, you vicious woman! Go to the police station right now and get my son released! What has our family ever done to you that you would go this far to hurt him?"Prescott looked grim as well. "Lucy, leave some room for mercy. Even if Vance did something wrong, you two were supposed to

Vance was forcibly taken away. He turned back toward Margot. "Margot! Explain it to them! Tell them you're really sick!"Margot stood frozen in place, her face deathly pale, too frightened to move. But when the police officers approached her, she suddenly screamed, "This has nothing to do with me! He forced me to do it! He was the one who told me to pretend to be sick and scam the money. He has all the money. I don't know anything!"Vance stared at the woman he'd been desperately trying to protect, unable to believe what he was hearing. "Margot, what the hell are you talking about?"The officers ignored their accusations against each other and took both of them away in the police car. That afternoon, I was sitting beside Grandma El's hospital bed when I received a call from the Stonebridge police."Ms. Crane, suspects Vance Dalton and Margot Kent are now in our custody."But..." Officer Williams's voice grew serious. "During questioning, Margot insisted that the $300,000 was a v

By the time I arrived at the hospital in my hometown, Grandma El's surgery was already over, and she'd been transferred to the intensive care unit. The doctor said that fortunately, the payment had been made in time. Her life had been saved.I looked through the glass at Grandma El, tubes running all over her body, and finally couldn't hold back my tears.I wiped away my tears, walked out of the hospital, and headed straight to the local police station."Officer, I'd like to file a report. I was defrauded of $300,000 after someone fabricated a medical condition."The officer who received me, Derrick Williams, immediately took the matter seriously and began taking my statement.I submitted all the evidence I'd organized."The suspect is named Vance Dalton. He's currently in Stonebridge. They're booked on a flight tomorrow morning at ten and are planning to flee the country."The next morning, at nine, I sat on a bench outside the intensive care unit, staring at my phone screen.

I had just walked out of the mall when my phone suddenly rang.It was a call from the hospital back in my hometown."Are you related to Lucy Crane? Your grandmother, Eleanor Brooks, suddenly collapsed. The preliminary diagnosis is an acute brain hemorrhage, and she needs surgery immediately. Please prepare $100,000 for the surgery."My mind went blank with a loud buzz.My parents had both died when I was young. Grandma El had raised me by collecting recyclables. She was the only family I had in this world.I forced myself to stay calm. "Doctor, please arrange the surgery first. I'll get the money together as quickly as I can!"After hanging up, I immediately checked all my bank accounts.I'd put every penny I had into buying Vance's luxury condo, and I'd even taken out a mortgage against my little house. Now I had less than $20,000 in liquid cash.I took a deep breath and called Vance. The phone rang for a long time before he finally answered. His voice was filled with irrita
