RAY'S POV

"He's coming tonight."

Nobody argued with it.

Levi was already on his feet. "Daniel. North wall. Find Ryan Blake. Now."

Daniel moved.

"Aaron." Levi turned. "Is there anything else we need to know before this compound becomes a battlefield."

"Several things," Aaron said calmly. "But they can wait until you've secured your walls."

"Can they."

"The document has waited four hundred years. It can wait another hour." He folded his hands. "Go."

Levi looked at me.

"The founding stone," I said

RAY’S POVThe training yard was cleared by midnight.Victor's wolves secured. Compound locked. Every entry point sealed.Daniel pulled me aside while Levi spoke to his wolves."The fourth step," he said quietly. "What does that mean.""It means Victor thinks he knows where we're going," I said. "The alternative covenant location. He thinks he's waiting for us there.""And.""And we let him wait." I looked at Levi across the yard. "While we go somewhere else entirely."Daniel followed my eyes. "There's a third location.""Aaron knows about it," I said. "Your father told him Ray." "My father told Aaron a lot of things apparently," I said.Daniel was quiet for a moment. "You trust Aaron.""More than I did this morning," I said. "Less than I will tomorrow."Daniel almost smiled. "That's not reassuring.""It's honest."He looked at Levi again. "He's holding together.""He always holds together," I said. "That's not the same as being okay."Daniel looked at me sideways. Something in his exp

LEVI’S POVRay was at the window before I moved."Don't make a sound," he said quietly.Chris's voice floated up from just outside the wall. Low. Deliberate."It's done," he said. "They don't know I'm still here."A pause. Then Victor's voice. Muffled but clear."And the document.""Carter has it," Chris said. "But they don't understand what it fully does yet.""The bond.""Full strength," Chris said. "Tonight. They're together Victor."Silence.Then Victor, quiet and satisfied."Perfect. Exactly as planned."Ray looked at me.I looked at Ray.Outside Chris shifted. "When do you move.""Before dawn," Victor said. "I want them tired and off balance. Is the east gate accessible.""Ryan sealed it," Chris said. "But the north passage under the old wall. It predates the current structure." He paused. "It's still open. I never reported it."Ray closed his eyes for one second."Twenty wolves inside before the first patrol notices," Victor said."And Levi." Chris's voice changed on my name. "

  • The Forbidden Alpha’s Mate   Chapter 15

RAY'S POVGone. The word sat in the room like something with weight.I watched Levi's face.He didn't move. Didn't react. Just stood there with the access log in his hand and his eyes fixed on the wall. The expression of a man absorbing something that was going to take a long time to fully land."How long," I said to Daniel."Guard last saw him forty minutes ago. By the time we checked he was gone." Daniel paused. "He went over the wall.""He heard the search order," I said. "He knew we'd found the anchor.""Yes.""Which means Victor already has everything from tonight.""Yes," Daniel said quietly.I looked at Levi.He hadn't moved."Levi," I said.Nothing."Levi."He set the access log down carefully. Like he was concentrating very hard on that one physical act to avoid concentrating on everything else."How long has Chris been in this compound," I said to Daniel."Six years," Daniel said. "At least."I did the math.Six years. Victor staged his death four years ago. Chris was recrui

  • The Forbidden Alpha’s Mate   Chapter 14

LEVI'S POVNobody spoke for a long time.Daniel looked at the floor. Aaron looked at the document. The compound moved around us , wolves on walls, gates locked, the steady hum of a place preparing for something, and inside this room everything was very still.I looked at Ray.He was looking at the ceiling. His jaw was tight. His hands were still at his sides. The composure was back, all the way back, every wall rebuilt, every crack sealed, and something about that made my chest hurt in a way I hadn't expected.Twenty minutes ago he had been in my bed with his forehead against mine telling me he was tired of fighting this. Now he was looking at the ceiling like he was already making the calculation."Ray," I said."I heard him," he said quietly."I know.""It's a clean solution," he said. Still looking at the ceiling. "Victor gets nothing. The hierarchy stays intact. Both packs survive.""Ray—""It's logical," he said."Stop," I said.He looked at me."Stop doing that," I said. "Stop m

  • The Forbidden Alpha’s Mate   Chapter 13

RAY'S POVI was dressed before Daniel finished the sentence.Levi was right behind me.We moved through the corridor fast. The compound was awake — wolves on every wall, voices low and tense, the particular energy of a place that had been expecting something and felt it arriving.Daniel met us at the north gate."Messenger," he said. "Alone. No weapons. Asked for both of you by name.""Victor's wolf," I said."Yes.""Let him in," Levi said.Daniel opened the gate. The wolf who stepped through was young. Couldn't have been more than twenty. Lean and nervous and trying very hard not to show it. He looked at Levi first. Then at me. Then back at Levi."Alpha Morgan," he said. "I carry a message from Victor Morgan.""Say it," Levi said. The wolf reached into his jacket. Pulled out a sealed letter. Held it out.Levi didn't take it.I took it.Broke the seal. Unfolded it.Read it once. The compound was quiet around us.I handed it to Levi without a word.He read it.His jaw tightened by exac

  • The Forbidden Alpha’s Mate   Chapter 12

LEVI'S POVWe made it back to the compound before sunrise.Daniel took over immediately. Wolves on every wall. Gates locked. Full rotation. He moved through the compound like a man who had been waiting for something to do and was relieved to finally have it.I let him run it.I had something else to deal with.Ray was in the medical room. Mina was wrapping his ribs with the focused silence she used when she was angry about something and had decided not to say it yet.I stood in the doorway and watched. He sat on the edge of the table with his shirt off and his jaw tight and his eyes on the wall. The cut above his eye had dried. His knuckles were split three different ways. Three cracked ribs from the hit he'd taken in the clearing. He hadn't made a sound the entire time Mina worked on him."Done," Mina said. She pressed two fingers against his jaw, not gentle, the way she pressed when she wanted someone to look at her. He looked. "Sleep. Both of you." Her eyes moved to me briefly. "Yo
