“Let me have the keys.”

Dexter stretched his hand toward me as soon as we got to the car.

I looked at him, confused.

His body rested against one side of the car, his expression unreadable.

“Did I do something wrong?” I asked because I didn’t understand why he would want the keys when I was supposed to be driving him home.

He sighed.“Mia, just give me the keys. Who said you did anything wrong?”

“Okay.”

I handed them over.

He checked his watch.“It’s currently 10:30. I don’t think it’s wise for yo

By the time I got to my cottage door, my body was exhausted and begging for sleep.I stretched my hand toward the doorknob and immediately heard the twins laughing from inside. It was loud enough to reach me even from outside.Weren’t these the same people arguing a few hours ago?I shook my head and pushed the door open.Their laughter welcomed me once again. You know those types of laughs that make you laugh too even when you have absolutely no idea what the joke is?I found myself smiling immediately.I walked into the sitting room.June was spread out across the couch with her head resting on July’s lap while both of them stared at her phone screen. They were laughing so hard that tears were practically forming in their eyes.“Stop!” June wheezed.“I can’t breathe.”“Then stop laughing!” July laughed even harder.“You’re the one replaying it!”“I have to!”Another round of laughter exploded between them.I stood there for a second watching them.Weren’t these the same two people t

I thought getting inside the car would make things easier.I was wrong.Somehow, sitting beside Dexter felt ten times more awkward than standing outside waiting for a cab.The car engine hummed softly as we drove through the nearly empty road.Streetlights flashed across the window every few seconds while silence filled the car.I quietly stared outside pretending to be interested in the passing buildings.Anything was better than looking at him.But somehow my eyes drifted toward him anyway.Dexter had rolled up his sleeves, exposing part of his forearms while one hand lazily handled the steering wheel. His jaw looked sharper under the streetlights and his expression remained calm and focused on the road ahead. There was something strangely relaxing about how he drove too.No unnecessary movements. No impatience.Just an aura I couldn't explain. Why did he look oddly attractive while driving?Athena.I screamed inside my head. What nonsense are you even thinking about?“what route ar

I don’t think it’s wise for you to drop me off at my house by this time and then head home from there.”He looked up at me.“It would be past midnight by then. Not a good time for a lady to be outside.”“Ummm… sir, I can handle it.”“Yeah, I bet you can.”He walked over to the driver’s side.“Where’s your route? I’ll drop you off at the nearest bus stop on my way home.”Hell no.“Ummm… I’ll take a cab,” I answered immediately.“Oh?”He stared at me for a second. No way I was allowing him to drop me off.The address on my res

“You haven’t been here before, have you?”“No. No, of course not.” I shook my head immediately.I knew I needed to answer quickly.Any weird behaviour or even a few seconds of hesitation and Dexter would become suspicious. So I simply said the first thing that came to my head.“If you haven’t been here before, then why say that?”“The taste is similar to a diner I frequently visited in Florida.”He stared at me for a few seconds. My fingers tightened around the burger in my hands. Please buy it.Please.“Okay.” He finally said and continued eating. Why was I becoming more clumsy lately? It was almost as if I always lost myself whenever I saw anything connected to my old life.I really needed to do better.Imagine getting exposed because of a burger. That would be ridiculous.I swallowed hard and continued eating.Despite how delicious it was, I forced myself to keep a straight face.Dexter also ate quietly.I glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.10 pm already.Shoot.I forgot to

Dexter must have realized it too because I noticed he suddenly cleared his throat and his face returned to its usual frown. That was better. For a second there I was beginning to forget who he was.A woman who appeared to be in her sixties walked toward us with a smile.I recognized her immediately.Mrs Cherry. She had aged a bit. Her white hair was more obvious and I noticed she wasn’t walking as fast as before.“Dexter. Good to see you again,” she greeted warmly.“Good to see you too, Mrs Cherry. You’re still as beautiful as I remember.”“Oh please, don’t flatter me.” She laughed softly.I leaned back in my chair watching them. They seemed to have a good relationship.I honestly didn’t remember Dexter being this nice with her back then.“You need to drop by more often. I hardly see you these days.”“Work, Mrs Cherry. Work.”She shook her head knowingly.“I understand.”Then she smiled.“You’re getting your usual, right?”“Yes.”She turned to me immediately.“Oh, where are my manners

“This can’t be real,” I whispered to myself as I parked in the diner parking lot.I blinked twice when I looked at the building. No way.I knew this spot. This used to be my favorite spot. I didn’t even know it still existed.Everything was just as I remembered. The red sign outside was still there. The same warm yellow lights shone through the glass windows.Even the giant burger picture at the entrance was still there. My fingers tightened around the steering wheel.Seriously?Dexter came here?“This place?” I asked before I could stop myself.“Yeah.” Dexter briefly looked up from his phone. “What about it?”“Nothing.”I quickly looked away.My heart suddenly felt strange. This was one of the oldest diners in Las Vegas. But this wasn’t just any diner to me.This place carried memories.Very embarrassing memories. The kind I wished my brain would permanently delete.“Are you going to get out or not?” Dexter said. Then he looked at me.“Is this your first time seeing a diner? You look

The drive to the bridal store was one hell of a ride. Cassie didn’t stop yapping about how her wedding was going to be the best Las Vegas had ever seen.“My wedding is going to have the whole of Las Vegas talking for months,” Cassie said proudly from the back seat while checking herself in a small

The rest of the morning went by slowly. After fixing schedules for the week and working on a few documents, there wasn’t much to do and I was already getting bored.I guess after working almost every hour for the past few years and barely having breaks, my body had adapted to stress so much that re

The door handle moved. It felt like my heart was about to jump out of my chest. What do I do? What do I do? My eyes moved around the office frantically searching for somewhere to hide. But the office was too open. There was nowhere to hide. The handle went lower slowly. Without thinkin

My alarm rang loudly beside my bed. I groaned tiredly and stretched my hand weakly toward the table, my eyes still closed as I kept touching the hard surface blindly. “Where is it?” I grumbled. I slowly opened my eyes and saw the phone at the edge of the table. I quickly turned it off before i
