The townhouse was quiet, almost too calm, the kind of silence that demanded acknowledgement. It was different from London's usual chaotic symphony, and in this silence, every detail felt heightened. The distant rumble of a bus, the slow, rhythmic beat of my own heart.

Eliana had finally dozed off on the bus after our fun adventures and sightseeing. I had tucked her in myself, my hands clumsy and gentle on the small comforter. I stood outside her room, in the half-light of the hallway, half expecting her to stir and call for her mother, as she so often did in new places. But she didn’t. She slept soundly, her tiny arm curled around that plush lion, as if the world couldn’t touch her.

Lena stayed by the hallway window, silently looking out. The soft, buttery glow of London’s streetlamps painted her face in shades of gold and amber, highlighting her jaw. Her arms were crossed, but not in their usual defensive, guarded way I remembered from the last time we were in a room together. She

Morning light spilt through the wide kitchen windows, painting the countertops in gold. The townhouse felt different today—ot felt more like somewhere we could… stay. Eliana sat at the table, swinging her legs as she smeared jam across toast in a way that made more mess than progress. “Leo wants honey too,” she announced seriously, setting the lion in front of her plate. Dominic, standing at the stove in a grey t-shirt and sweatpants, turned with a raised brow. “Leo’s a picky eater. First cookies, now honey?” Eliana giggled, proud of herself. “He’s royalty. He eats whatever he wants.” I covered my smile with my mug of coffee, watching them. Watching him. He looked so ordinary in that moment—barefoot, sleeves pushed up, brow furrowed slightly as he scrambled eggs. Nothing about him screamed ruthless CEO. He looked like… someone’s dad. “Mommy,” Eliana said through a mouthful of toast, “Uncle Dom makes good eggs.” I arched a brow. “You haven’t even tasted them yet.” “They look go

Lena’s POV The clatter of dishes drifted up from the kitchen, mixed with Eliana’s sing-song humming. The sound should have been comforting. But nothing about this morning brought comfort. I slipped downstairs, pausing at the sight before me. Eliana was perched at the counter with her legs swinging, happily chattering to Leo, while Dominic stood at the stove—tie abandoned, shirt sleeves rolled up—as if he’d done this a hundred times. “Mommy!” Eliana squealed when she saw me. “Uncle Dom is making eggs, and Leo says they’re the best eggs in London!” Dominic shot me a quick look, one that lingered just a second too long, before turning back to flip something in the pan. “Leo has excellent taste.” I forced a small smile, walking over to brush Eliana’s curls back. “Did you even let him eat his toast first?” “He ate two,” Dominic said, sliding eggs onto her plate. “And negotiated with me over jam. She’s very persuasive.” Eliana nodded proudly, mouth already full. “I told him jam make

Dominic’s Pov The river smelled faintly of salt and steel, the breeze tugging at Eliana’s curls as she practically bounced down the pier. The boat loomed ahead—sleek, glass-sided, its decks strung with little golden lights that shimmered against the Thames. “Uncle Dom, is this our ship?” she gasped, hugging Leo tight like the lion might leap into the water without her. “Yes, Captain,” I said, ruffling her hair. “All aboard.” She squealed and darted toward the gangway, Lena jogging to keep her from tripping over her own excitement. I followed slower, my chest tightening—not from the cold, but from the memory of last night. Her face is so close to mine. Her breath mixed with mine. The way her eyes had softened right before my phone dragged me back to reality. And now here we were, pretending nothing had happened. The boat thrummed underfoot as we stepped inside. Eliana plastered herself against the window immediately, pointing at every bridge, every building, her voice a s

Dominic’s POV “Okay, Leo’s had enough fun for today,” Lena said, scooping Eliana up as she hopped off the see-saw. Eliana pouted, clutching her stuffed lion like he’d just survived a battlefield. “But Leo says he wants a snack.” I crouched so we were eye level. “Leo’s right. I know just the place. They make the best hot chocolate in all of London.” Her eyes widened. “Better than Mommy’s?” I glanced at Lena, whose brows arched as if daring me to answer wrong. I smirked. “Different kind of better. You’ll see.” That won me a squeal and an enthusiastic nod. Lena, on the other hand, shook her head. “You’re already spoiling her.” “She deserves it,” I said, meeting her gaze. For a second, her lips parted like she wanted to argue—but she didn’t. Instead, she tucked Eliana closer, letting the silence stretch between us as we walked out of the park and toward the street. ******** The café I chose was small, tucked between a bookstore and a flower shop. Its wide windows let in the weak

Eliana’s nose was practically glued to the glass, her voice tumoring over itself with excitement. “Mommy, look! Another bus! And it’s red too!” I smiled faintly, brushing a strand of hair from her cheek. “Sweetheart, all the buses are red here.” “But this one’s shinier!” she argued, hugging Leo like he agreed with her. Dominic chuckled beside her, low and warm, and I caught the way Eliana leaned closer to him. She looked at him the way children were supposed to look at their fathers—like he hung the moon. And the worst part was, he encouraged it. He wasn’t aloof, wasn’t distant. He listened to her every word, nodding as though she was teaching him something. I turned my face to the window, the streets of London rushing past. I shouldn’t have let this happen. A bus ride, pancakes, laughter—it was too easy to fall into the rhythm of something that looked like family. Too easy to forget what he’d done. “Mommy?” Eliana’s voice yanked me back. She tugged my sleeve. “Did you see the

“The Ivy Nest,” the sign read in golden script as we stepped inside. Warm light spilt across velvet chairs, the kind of place that hummed with quiet conversation and the clinking of china. Eliana skipped ahead, dragging Leo by one paw. “It smells like cookies in here, Mommy!” “It smells like coffee,” Lena corrected softly, tugging her scarf loose as she glanced around. “It smells like both,” I said, guiding them to a booth tucked near the window. “Compromise.” Eliana scrambled into the booth, nearly knocking over a polished brass lamp. “I want pancakes! Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes!” Lena sighed, sliding in beside her. “You can’t just have sugar for breakfast.” Eliana pouted dramatically, hugging Leo to her chest. “Leo says pancakes have energy.” I leaned an elbow on the table, fighting a smile. “He’s not wrong.” Lena shot me a look. “Dominic.” “What?” I asked innocently. “She’s got a point.” “He’s got a point,” Eliana corrected with a grin, holding Leo up like a witness.
