“Emily! Em, it’s time to go!” My friend’s voice cut through my thoughts. ‘Why doesn’t she mind link us?’ my wolf, Kyra, asks. It was time to leave for the gala. Once a year, our pack hosts a gala for unmated wolves. Several neighboring packs are invited. They also host their own galas once a year, but I try to avoid going to these galas whenever possible. I don’t expect to ever find a mate, despite being the Alpha’s firstborn. I’ve always been unwanted. Ever since I can remember, I’ve yearned for a feeling I’ve never felt. My parents didn’t want me. My siblings didn’t want me. I was just alone in the world no matter what I did. I tried everything to get attention and affection from my family. I was the perfect daughter and student; an overachiever really. I woke my siblings and got them ready for school every morning, helped them with homework and even did their laundry. I practically raised my brothers and sisters. Despite all that, I never felt wanted or needed. All I ever wanted was to be good enough. I was valedictorian, yearbook editor, class president and president of almost every club I joined. Despite that, I never heard a compliment from my parents. They weren’t proud of my accomplishments; it was just expected. My grades were never noticed unless they were below a 96. It was definitely a lonely life for me. I managed to have a few friends in high school that weren’t just trying to use my family’s status. I had dates for homecoming and prom and even though I wasn’t in the “popular crowd,” it was a big high school so I was pretty well known even without using my father’s title. I even had a few boyfriends throughout high school. From the outside looking in, it seemed like I had a great life. In reality, I wasn’t allowed to do much. I went to school, went to training and went home to do homework. I stayed in my bedroom doing homework until dinner. School was the one place I felt seen, so I wanted to carry that feeling with me after I went home and homework was the only way. Fortunately, I never lacked homework since I was in Advanced classes. The only times I was allowed to go out were prom and homecoming. I went on exactly two normal dates in my four years of high school. For my third date in high school, my friend Hannah and I said we were going to the movies together. She picked me up and he met us there. She was one of my only true friends in school. I mean, why else would she volunteer to be a third wheel for me to go on a date? I thought I would finally be free from my pitiful existence after graduation, but I was wrong. My parents were so overbearing that I wasn’t allowed to apply for the colleges of my choice. My acceptance letter from my top choice was hidden from me, and I was forced to go to a local college since that was the only acceptance letter I knew about. Why would I be forced to stay home for college when they acted like they didn’t care about me anyway? It made no sense to me. But here I am, in my third year of college getting gussied up with my best friend for a stupid “mating party.” I doubt my parents would notice if I didn’t show up. I’m only going because Hannah insists that we go. I’m hoping she finds her mate soon so I can stop attending these things. My bedroom door suddenly opens, and my sister Kate is standing there with a scowl. She found her mate a month after turning eighteen and he’s not only the Beta’s son, but they will take over our pack if both of my brothers are mated to another Alpha’s only child. I guess I’m not worthy enough for that title. “Emily, your dumb friend is here. Can you please tell her to shut up?” Kate says haughtily. ‘That’s why Hannah doesn’t mind link. She wants to annoy Kate.’ I chuckle back to Kyra. Right behind her I see Hannah glare at her before brushing past her into my room. Hannah smiles at me as she says, “Oh Em, you look so gorgeous tonight! I have a good feeling this is the night we find our mates!” “I hope so. I can’t wait for you losers to leave the pack for good.” Kate sneers. I’m used to my sister’s disdain so I just roll my eyes and stand up. “Let’s go.” I say dragging Hannah away before she can retort. Once they start arguing they can go on all night.Easton POV I felt like I’d lived an entire lifetime in the past three days. I could only imagine how Emily felt. I didn’t know anyone in the pack was part Fae, so it was a shock to learn Kent’s mate Michelle was. When Michelle agreed to speak with us upstairs, I thought we would just be discussing simple Fae abilities and maybe how Emily could use them. I definitely was not expecting Michelle’s grandmother to literally pop in and drop the answers to Emily’s questions right into our laps. I sat quietly while Aisling and Emily spoke, trying to take everything in and wrap my head around it. When Aisling said Emily’s mother was the Fae princess it explained why Emily had such a powerful aura and Alpha command. ‘So she’s technically a princess, too.’ Dallas preened. ‘I guess.’ I replied. ‘Definitely explains why she’s stronger than her dad.’ My heart clenched when Aisling said she would take Emily to the Fae kingdom, but I was quickly relieved when she added that she would t
Emily POV “The entire Fae Kingdom?” I questioned. “Yes, dear. Your mother was the princess.” I blinked a few times as the words registered. I downed the rest of my drink before slowly standing and walking to refill my glass. If my mother was the princess, what does that make me? Surely they don’t expect me to rule the kingdom one day. I suppose that could also explain why Alpha commands don’t work on me and why I’m stronger than my dad. Everyone in the office quietly watched me as I walked back to the couch and sat down. “Who in their right mind marks some mediocre she-wolf when they’re already mated to a freaking PRINCESS?” I half-shouted to no-one in particular. I then remembered Easton saying he bet it was a love potion Katherine used. I turned to look him.
Emily POV We walked into my office and I walked straight to the bar. “Coffee or cocktail?” I offered. “An Old-Fashioned for us, please.” Kent replied. Easton had followed me to the bar and instructed me to sit while he made the four of us drinks. I went to sit on the couch and motioned to the chairs to instruct Kent and Michelle to sit as well. When we were all sitting, I took a deep breath as I contemplated where to begin. Easton gently nudged me. I took a large gulp of my drink before starting. “So, this information is confidential. Can y’all assure me you won’t discuss this outside of this room?” I asked. “You have our word. It remains between the four of us.” Michelle stated sincerely. “After we mated, I learned that Katherine is not my biological moth
Emily POV Michelle was the opposite of most of the she-wolves I had met in Silver Springs, or ever, really. It was apparent that she had a no nonsense attitude and I was a bit taken aback at her grave demeanor. I felt an instant connection with Michelle for some strange reason. She didn’t seem to be overly friendly or over talkative, but I could sense something in her that seemed to tie us together. My wolf could sense it as well. ‘I don’t know what it is but it’s intriguing.’ Kyra mumbled to me. I was surprised to learn she was originally from the Conecuh Forest pack. Everyone I had met from that pack was usually playful and unserious. Like Jake without the arrogance and douchery. I told her I was originally from Blue Moon, and she looked at me quizzically for a brief moment and asked, “Who are your parents?” Hannah sensed my hesitancy and blurted, “She’s Alpha Adam’s oldest daughter.” “Well, I’ve always doubted the rumors about you, and after meeting you I’m glad I
Emily POV Easton chuckled and slowly slid out of me. “It’s definitely my new favorite pastime.” He started to move away from me, and confusion washed over me until he reassured me with a light kiss on my forehead. “I need to throw the condom in the trash.” I hummed at his statement as he walked off. My eyes started to flutter closed, and I felt Easton slip back on the couch beside me and pull me close in his arms right before I drifted off to sleep. I woke up when the urge to use the bathroom hit me. I was cuddled close against Easton, and was thinking of a way to get up without waking up. I finally decided there wasn’t a way to do so since we had fallen asleep on the couch and I was between him and the back cushions. I tried to sit up, but he tightened his grip around my waist and mumbled something in his sleep. “Babe.” I whispered. I moved one hand to his cheek. He hummed in response and his eyes fluttered briefly. “I need to get up.” I said. He opened his eyes and loc
Emily POV I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t for Easton to kiss the mark on my neck and ask, “Do you like this?” He continued to lick at the mark and kiss it and I couldn’t stop the small moan that escaped me as he did. “I more than like it.” I whispered. I slid my hands underneath his shirt to lightly stroke his back. His hands cupped my ass and I knew how I wanted to spend the time before dinner. He pulled his head from my neck and our lips met instantly. It didn’t take long for Easton to lift me, and I wrapped my legs around him. I grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it up. He pulled his lips from mine just long enough for me to pull his shirt over his head. I was glad he’d decided to wear a polo shirt instead of a button up. Easton had walked us to the couch, and he sat down with me in his lap. I leaned back and pulled my own shirt off. His eyes darkened as he looked at me. He reached around to unhook my bra, and I let it fall. His mouth went to o
