The ballroom was massive.

There were crystal chandeliers, twenty-foot ceilings, marble floors.

I knelt there, cleaning.

My knees hurt. My hands were raw. And I was starving as I’d skipped breakfast to get started early.

But I kept going.

The pack hired cleaners yesterday and the place was sparkling clean but Morgana, my stepmother had said I must do it again.

She was the one hosting the ceremony and was in charge. There was no other reason for her making me clean a place that was already clean other than the fact that she liked watching me suffer.

My mom had died when I was a baby. To combat loneliness and find someone to raise his daughter, my father married another woman; Morgana, who came with her daughter from her firsr marriage, Celeste.

But then Dad died when I was eight and she completely changed her attitude towards me, treating me less than a dog in my own house. Her daughter was no better and she made my life a living hell.

I moved to the windows next, wiping down glass that was already spotless.

Through them, I could see the forest surrounding our property. Thick trees, wild and dark. Sometimes I thought about just running. Disappearing into those woods and never coming back.

“You missed a spot.”

I looked back. Morgana stood behind me, dressed in flashy navy gown. She was beautiful alright, but cold.

My stepmother. The woman who’d married my father and then made my life hell the second he died.

“I’m not done cleaning.”

“Clearly.” She walked into the ballroom, heels clicking on the marble. “The ceremony starts in six hours. Think you can finish by then?”

“I’ll finish.”

“You better. Celeste wants everything perfect.” She paused in front of me. “This is an important night for our family. For our pack. The Alphas choosing mates from BloodMoon…..it will bring us power, prestige, alliances. We can’t afford any embarrassments.”

Translation: Don’t screw this up.

“I understand.”

“Do you?” She tilted her head, studying me. “Sometimes I wonder what goes on in that head of yours. You’re so… quiet. Obedient. Don’t you ever get angry?”

All the time. Every single day.

“No, ma’am.”

“Liar.” But she smiled slightly. “That’s fine. Keep your secrets. Just stay out of sight tonight. The last thing we need is you reminding everyone that the Winter family produced a wolfless failure.”

The words stung. They always did.

“I’ll stay in my room.”

“Good girl.” She turned to leave, then stopped. “Your father would be disappointed, you know. He had such high hopes for you. Thought you were special somehow. But look at you now…..scrubbing floors like a servant. Some legacy.”

She left before I could respond. Not that I would have. What was there to say?

I went back to cleaning.

-----

By six o’clock, I was ready to collapse.

Everything was done. Ballroom: spotless. Entrance hall: gleaming. Dining rooms: perfect. Kitchen: immaculate. Bathrooms: cleaner than they’d ever been. Even the gardens were trimmed and pretty.

I’d worked for thirteen straight hours with no breaks.

My whole body ached. My stomach was eating itself. I had blisters on my hands from the cleaning supplies.

But it was done.

I dragged myself upstairs, past Celeste’s suite where I could hear music playing and girls laughing. She’d invited friends over to get ready together. Must be nice.

I was hungry. There were leftovers in the kitchen probably.

But I couldn’t move.

From downstairs, I heard voices. Morgana and Celeste, getting ready to leave. More laughter. Excitement.

“You look stunning, darling.”

“Thanks, Mother. Do you think they’ll all feel it? The bonds?”

“With your bloodline? Absolutely. You’re perfect for them.”

Perfect. Right.

I closed my eyes.

Somewhere across town, the ceremony was starting. Wolves were gathering, dressed in their finest, hoping to find their fated mates. The four Alphas would be there, powerful and gorgeous and looking for their perfect matches.

And Celeste would get everything she wanted.

While I stayed here. Alone. Worthless.

“You’re having a pity party,” I told myself. “Stop it.”

But I couldn’t.

Because tomorrow, Celeste would come home bonded to four incredible Alphas.

I soon heard the front door close and the car pulling away.

Silence.

I should sleep. Tomorrow would be hell

…..…..…..

I couldn’t sleep.

The bonding ceremony had begun.

I was on my way to clean the kitchen when I heard music and laughter. There was the distant sound of celebration and clinking of glasses too.

The ceremony grounds weren’t far. Maybe half a mile through the woods. Close enough that on a quiet night like this, you could hear everything.

I should go to my room. Stay out of sight like Morgana ordered.

But I soon found myself going to the terrace instead. I was curious. I wanted to see .

From where I was, I saw the twinkling lights and trees. It was a big outdoor ballroom under the stars.

There were lanterns strung up, tables laden with food and a raised platform where the Alphas would stand.

I’d never seen it in person. But I’d heard Celeste describe it a thousand times.

“Just a quick look,” I muttered. “Five minutes. Then I’ll come back.”

I sneaked into the gardens and went into the woods. My heart beat wildly as I raced there. If they caught me I’m dead. But…but…

The music got louder as I got closer. I could hear voices now, conversations overlapping.

“Did you see Celeste? She looks incredible.”

“Of course she does. She’s been preparing for this her whole life.”

“The Alphas just arrived. Holy shit, they’re even more gorgeous in person.”

“Who among them do you think will bond first?”

I finally got there. The view was breathtaking. The ceremony screamed luxury and class.

There were so many people.

And wolves.

There were about three hundred people, all dressed in classy outfits, laughing and drinking. It was like they were in a different world. A different world from me.

Four men stood on the raised platform.

They were different, moee classy, important. I could tell from how everyone looked at them with awe ans reverence.

The Alphas.

The cold water from the shower ran through my body, washing away the blood stains.Definitely not my blood,I was barely touched. But the blood of Marcus's hybrids, the wolves we had lost, the violence that had painted me from head to toe.Kael's hands were gentle as he washed it away, but I could feel his restraint through the bond. The need to claim, to reassure himself I was alive, to erase the fear he had felt when that power had exploded out of me."I'm okay," I said softly."You collapsed.""I collapsed because I used too much power. Not because I was hurt." I turned in his arms, pressing against his naked body. The hot water cascaded over both of us. "Kael, I'm fine."His red eyes met mine. "You scared the hell out of me. When you pulled from all four bonds at once" His jaw clenched. "I felt it. Felt you draining me. And I would have given you everything, every last drop, if it meant keeping you alive.""I know." I reached up, cupping his face. "I felt it too. Your strength,

The first guard made the mistake of moving forward to attack me.I didn't even move. I just grabbed his arm, I used the speed he came with to attack me against him, and slammed him face-first into the stone floor. The sound of his cracked skull echoed through the chamber."In rage mixed with excitement, I asked, anyone else?"The remaining nineteen guards paused out of fear.Behind me were my four Alphas. Four mighty wolves, snarling and ready to tear apart anyone who dares to come close. The Elders had risen from their seats, backing toward the exits."Stop them," James commanded the guards. "Kill the Alphas if you have to, but the girl must be alive.""You just made the second mistake," I said softly. Then all hell broke loose.Three guards rushed Kael. Bad idea. His mighty black wolf tore through them like they were paper, jaws closing around throats, claws ripping through flesh. “Blood..”Blood sprayed across the ancient stone.Lucien's gray wolf moved with careful planning

“It's two days before the Council meeting”.I should have been focused on strategy, on preparing my arguments, on learning everything I could about Elder politics.Instead, Rowan pinned against the training room wall with his mouth on my throat."This is a terrible idea," I gasped as his teeth scraped over my pulse."Terrible ideas are my specialty." His hands held my thighs, lifting me until my legs wrapped around his waist. "Tell me to stop, he whispered”I couldn't. My wolf was purring, pressing closer, demanding more.We had been sparring just training, nothing sexual. But somewhere between the tenth takedown and my successful counterattack, the energy had shifted. Become charged. Dangerous."The others..""Are busy." His lips found mine, rough and demanding. "Lucien's on a conference call. Kael's meeting with his generals. Asher's doing reconnaissance. It's just us."Finally, my wolf purred. Ours. Want. Need."Rowan...""Say yes." His amber eyes blazed with his wolf. "S

"There's someone in the forest."The four Alphas froze, their good-natured teasing dissipating in the cold air."Where?" Kael’s tone was all Alpha command and it went straight to my flipping dick.I indicated the row of trees where I'd spotted the shadow."There. Just beyond the oak trees. They've been watching us."Rowan was already on the move, midstep. His wolf leapt through the bathroom window, a shower of glass and wood fragments flying in his wake as he hit the ground running.“Rowan, wait!” Asher began, but he was out the door."Fuck." Lucien pulled out his phone. "I'm calling security."Kael pulled me out of the bath, and enveloped me in a towel. "Get dressed. Now.""I can fight""Not until you can get your wolf under control." His red eyes blazed. "You shifted twice in one day.Your body needs rest, not another battle."I wanted to argue, but he was right. I could feel the exhaustion pulling at me, my wolf whimpering in the back of my mind.Tired, she admitted. But I s

  • The Four Alphas' chosen mate    "Awakening"

I woke to the sound of dripping water and the smell of mold.My head felt like it had been split open with an axe. Everything hurts,my neck where they'd injected me, my wrists bound with silver chains, my chest where the four bonds were screaming.Kael. Asher. Lucien. Rowan.I could feel them through the connections, their rage and fear and desperation bleeding into me.They were looking for me. Tearing apart the territory trying to find me.But they were too far away.I forced my eyes open. Concrete walls. A single bare bulb hanging from the ceiling. No windows. The room was maybe ten feet square, empty except for the chains bolted to the wall that held me.A basement. Or a bunker. Somewhere underground."She's awake."I jerked my head toward the voice. A man stood in the doorway tall, muscular, with scars covering half his face. Not the wolf who'd taken me, but clearly working with them."Where am I?" My voice came out raspy."Somewhere your precious Alphas will never find you."

  • The Four Alphas' chosen mate    "Shattered Illusions"

I woke to sunlight streaming through unfamiliar windows and an empty bed.The sheets beside me were cold. Kael was gone.My body ached in places I'd never felt before, a delicious soreness that made heat creep up my neck as memories of last night flooded back. His hands, his mouth, the way he'd looked at me like I was something precious even while he took me apart.I touched the bite mark on my shoulder. Not a claiming mark we hadn't gone that far but a possessive reminder nonetheless. The door opened. I grabbed the sheet, covering myself. But it wasn't Kael.A woman stood there. Mid-thirties, beautiful in a cold way, wearing an expensive suit. Her eyes swept over me with obvious disdain."So you're the wolfless girl." Her voice dripped with contempt. "How disappointing.""Who are you?""Sienna Blackthorn. Kael's mother." She stepped into the room like she owned it. Which, I supposed, she did. "Get dressed. We need to talk."Ten minutes later, I sat in a formal sitting room, still
