Chapter 2

作者: Lemon Plum
Lloyd’s smile froze, and a vicious glare appeared briefly in his eyes.

No one dared say a thing and just watched this drama unfold.

“Claude!” Upon hearing me accuse Lloyd of adultery, Naomi immediately spoke up to defend him. “Lloyd was just drunk that day, and I had someone send him back to the hotel. Could you not think of us as such horrible people? Also, you’re the one who sent the message. Why are you angry at Lloyd?”

When I saw how she was defending Lloyd, I clenched my fists tightly, and the veins in my temples bulged.

Even though I was furious, my voice remained calm.

I picked up my phone and added another voice message. “I’ll wait for you in Room 302.”

Everyone’s eyes widened in shock.

Among them, Naomi’s expression was the most sour. It was as dark as a thundercloud.

“Let’s just break up.”

I shifted my gaze from her face to her necklace.

I had worked for three months during my university days to buy that necklace for her.

Back then, she had been happy for a long time, but she had still ended up changing her target of affection.

All my sincere love went up in flames.

“Calm down. Let’s cut the cake. I’m hungry.”

“That’s right. Let’s have some cake.”

When the others saw how serious the situation was, they hurried over to mediate.

Naomi narrowed her eyes and hissed, “Are you being serious, Claude? You’re really giving up on our relationship for a joke?”

She was the one who betrayed us first, and yet, she was accusing me of giving up?

“Naomi, can you truly say that there’s nothing between you two?” I asked as I pointed at Lloyd.

Taken aback, Naomi did not dare to look me in the eye.

That guilty look was like a slap in the face.

“There’s really nothing between us, Claude. Naomi just takes care of me a lot, and I treat her as my sister. We’ve been really close with each other, and that’s why you misunderstood us. If it bothers you, I’ll just resign.”

Those manipulative words lit up Naomi’s fuse.

She dragged Lloyd behind her. “This has nothing to do with you. Claude is the one who can’t take a joke. He’s petty and aggressive. If anyone’s leaving, it’s him.”

I was thoroughly disappointed in her attitude.

I sized them up repeatedly before turning around without hesitation.

When he saw that I was about to leave, Lloyd immediately said, “It’s your birthday today, Claude. Have some cake before you leave.”

I wanted to say no, but he pinned me against the chair.

Most of the people here were my work friends. That was why I had sat down. I did not want to embarrass them.

Lloyd did not even ask for permission and just picked up the knife to cut the cake.

Then, he pushed a cake covered in crushed peanuts in front of me. He flashed a wicked grin at me.

“I’m not taking it,” I said, rejecting him decisively.

In the next second, Lloyd put on a hurt expression.

“You think I’m an eyesore, don’t you? I’ll leave right now.”

He got up and pretended to leave.

Just as I expected, Naomi grabbed him.

“Claude, how long are you going to keep up with this tantrum?”

I gave her the side-eye, and my expression was cold. “I’m allergic to peanuts.”

Naomi was stunned, and guilt flashed in her eyes. Even so, she remained stubborn.

“If you’re allergic, just say so. Lloyd didn’t know. Did you have to put him on the spot?”

“I put him on the spot? I just said that I wasn’t eating it, and that was considered putting him on the spot?” I mocked them both. “If he doesn’t know that I’m allergic to peanuts, that’s fine. But what about you? Are you telling me that you don’t?

“Are you seriously telling me you can’t tell that he’s provoking me?”

The series of questions rendered Naomi speechless.

I took off my matching ring and threw it at Lloyd.

“For you. I hope you two live happily ever after.”

  • The Game Is On   Chapter 9

One year later, I became the operations manager for Glazed Light’s e-commerce channel, and I was invited to join a summit for luxury goods abroad. The moment I showed up, plenty of peers surrounded me to talk to me. Among them were brands I had worked with before. Some of them were also people who had heard of the scandal in the past. The second group only respected and envied me for my achievements in my job. Through my own efforts, I had made Glazed Light’s profit increase by 60% in just one year, and the company became the best jewelry company in the world. Once I finished socializing with these people, I finally had time to go to the entrance to take a breather. “Claude…” A faint voice came from behind me. Before I even turned around, I smelled a pungent perfume. Unable to control myself, I sneezed twice. Someone handed me a pack of tissues. The woman had thick makeup on, and her out-of-style, haute couture gown clung to her chest tightly. Even though she did not

“You affected Glazed Light’s reputation. This is what your company deserves.”Yvonne’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to explain herself, but Wendy refused to listen. In Yvonne’s anger, she pointed at Lloyd and vented her rage at him. “If the company suffers any losses because of you, you’re paying for it!”Panic filled Lloyd’s face, and he wanted to hold Naomi’s hand, but she avoided him. “What’s going on?”Naomi’s expression was complicated, but she sounded nervous. That was something I rarely saw in her. “You saw it yourself yesterday. How was I supposed to know that they weren’t… I just thought that things were really unfair for you!”Naomi relaxed a little and turned to Yvonne. “I’m sure that he didn’t do it on purpose. If there are any losses, I’ll bear them.”She then cast a glance at Wendy and said stiffly, “I’m sure that you’ll find it in your heart to not hold this against Lloyd, Miss Clark.”Lloyd sighed in relief and immediately agreed. “That’s right! It’s all

I nodded and left the makeup room. The gazes trained on me were either indifferent or shocked. Their gazes looked as complicated as a tangled ball of yarn. Before me was a group of reporters who had been waiting for a long time. Lloyd said mockingly, “Naomi, he’s just paying for his actions.”“He deserves it! Don’t talk about him anymore in front of me. Whether he dies or not has nothing to do with me anymore,” Naomi hissed coldly. Sighs rose like a tidal wave in my ears. “He’s just too greedy, and now, he has nothing left.”“He’s not worthy of his status; that’s why he’s got disaster knocking on his door.”The photographers trained their cameras on me. Right when I wanted to bring out my phone, the elevator doors suddenly opened, and the receptionist brought a few guests over. However, she seemed tense, like she was doing something really important, and she could not afford to mess up. “Claude, the general manager of Glazed Light is asking for you.”After that brief

Lloyd’s grin was like that of a cat who caught the mouse, and Naomi’s silence also told me she agreed to this. I also heard the words of the people who were kicking me while I was down. Then, I laughed. It led to the people going silent, and it stood out in the quiet room. All of them stared at me while I faced Naomi and asked, “Ask yourself. If it weren’t for Lloyd, would so many problems have surfaced? This is your ‘best friend,’ I see.”Then, I walked up to Yvonne calmly. I even felt as if a burden had been removed from my shoulders. “Didn’t you say you wanted to have a press conference? I’ll answer the people’s questions, and I’ll let the people online decide what is real and fake.”I swept my gaze over Naomi and Lloyd. Then, I looked at the scattered bits of light on the window. At the moment I pushed the crowd away and made to leave, Naomi whipped her head up, as if she had been struck by lightning. “Wait!”With a complicated gaze, she turned to Yvonne. “The leaks mi

The next morning, I sent a message to Wendy. [I’m sorry for yesterday. If you ever need my help, please tell me.]When I went back to the company, I heard whispers all around me. “No way. Wendy Clark seriously slept with him?”“All of them are so wild, even though they pretend to be all prim and proper.”“Naomi is so pitiful.”Very calmly, I walked past them and went straight to the makeup room. Naomi was sitting behind a large makeup table and talking to the agent company. When she saw me, she was shocked. Her eyes were filled with exhaustion and frustration. “Explain this.”She handed the phone to me. I frowned in confusion. Then, I heard the insults from the phone. “How dare you lay your hands on Wendy Clark?! Don’t you know your own place?!“Right now, everyone online is talking about you cheating. What are we supposed to do about this?! You’re just never serious, are you? All you care about is satisfying your own libido!“Solve this on your own.”Shock filled

  • The Game Is On   Chapter 4

Wendy exposed their adultery with just a few simple words, instantly causing Naomi and Lloyd’s faces to turn red with shame. “Nothing is going on between us. What on earth are you saying?!”In a completely nonchalant manner, Wendy leaned against the counter and smiled. “If nothing is going on between you two, then nothing’s going on. Why are you so worked up?”“We’re not!” Lloyd shot back, but to the others, his actions just proved Wendy’s accusation to be true. Feeling troubled, Naomi nudged him. Realizing what was going on, Lloyd turned stiff and awkward. “Why aren’t you saying anything, Claude?” Wendy questioned. Naomi turned her face and stood further away, but she was looking at me from the corner of her eye. Lloyd regained his composure and continued, “He just got exposed and doesn’t know how to pretend to be innocent anymore.”“You seem to know what you’re talking about. Have you been exposed before?” I asked coolly. Lloyd’s smile stiffened, and he wanted to yell
