The Intruder

I was afraid.

I won't lie. The King has left me here in the dark all alone. Tied, drenched in water. Hungry and tired.

My body was feeling too weak. And being in an unfamiliar environment didn't help. I was used to the pin drop silence of the dungeon.

But here? There were sounds. Unique sounds which I haven't heard before.

Sounds belonging to insects and animals, for whom this forest was their habitat. Their home.

I thought they were harmless but my thought process was proved wrong when I felt something crawling up my legs.

I thought it to be my hallucination.

But a similar tickling feeling trails through my back. And that's when I knew. It was indeed a forest insect. And not just one. There were many.

" Ahh....what..is it ..ahh..."

I grunt in irritation. Trying to thrash in my bounds. To only have my wrists rub against the tree bark. Leaving marks.

I thought the insects will leave or shake off if I thrash.

But it did the opposite.
