Chapter 2

Author: Little Dazey
Jason wanted to pat me on the shoulder, but I instinctively flinched.

He retracted his hand and said, "Madeline, you're being a little strange."

I lowered my gaze, not knowing how to respond to him.

How could I not be strange? If only he knew how I spent my days at the mental asylum.

We arrived at Jason's mansion, the same place I used to live in the past.

I only ended up that way because I was foolish enough to think that I could one day be the mistress of this mansion.

I no longer had such thoughts.

No more.

That man only made my life hell.

I walked behind Jason. As we approached the mansion, I found it harder to breathe.

I had lived there for six years. Everything was still the same as I remembered. Perhaps because it was so familiar to me, every memory I had in the past instantly flooded my brain.

I felt a sudden rush of dizziness.

Camila, in a custom-made dress, came out of the mansion, walked over to me, and affectionately hooked her arm with mine.

"Madeline, you're finally back!"

I looked extremely ugly standing next to her.

Camila was Jason's first love. He had liked her for many years. In this aspect, Jason and I were similar.

Camila had always treated Jason as a backup. Two years ago, the man she wanted to marry was sent to prison due to embezzlement of funds. It was only after that did she started to open up to Jason.

"It's only been a year. Look at how thin you've become!"

She furrowed her brows and grumbled, "The mental asylum must have been treating you badly."

When I heard the mental asylum being mentioned, I started to feel dizzy once more.

Camila looked sorry as her tears fell. "I'm sorry, Madeline. If I knew this would happen, I wouldn't have let Jason send you in. Please don't blame me."

The only person who bought her pitiful act was Jason.

He said, "Come on, Camila, how could it be your fault? You were looking out for Madeline too."

He wiped away her tears and added, "Madeline has recovered. It's all thanks to you."

I secretly sneered.

That was right. I had only become the way I was all thanks to her.

Camila nodded demurely and smiled. "We'll fatten her up."

A feast was laid out on the dining table. Camila claimed that she had done it for me, but there was not a single dish that I liked.

"Madeline, eat up. You're too thin. You'll have to eat more."

Camila kept putting food onto my plate. She placed some grilled pork belly on my plate as she said, "Jason said that this is your favorite."

I picked up my cutlery, but I did not know where to start.

I did not like pork belly at all. It was because Jason used to only eat lean meat, so I would always take away the fatty parts and leave the lean part for him.

After some time, he believed that I loved the fatty parts.

My stomach churned badly.

I developed a terrible stomach condition from the mental asylum. They constantly starved me, only feeding me once a day. Sometimes, there was no food at all.

The doctor told me that my liking Jason was immoral. It was a big sin, so I needed to be punished.

Being starved was one of the punishments.

I lowered my head and wolfed down my food. I ate so quickly that the veins on my neck popped out.

Camila looked at me in disgust and moved slightly further away from me.

Jason merely frowned at me. He seemed to be unhappy with my behavior.

I could not care less. Filling up my stomach was the main priority.

I learned how to eat fast at the mental asylum. Every meal, I was only given five minutes to finish. Sometimes, even two or three minutes.

If I did not eat it quickly, I would not know when the next meal would come.

"Camila only liked me for my money! When she found out that my company was about to go down, she left with all the money and antiques I had in the safe!"Jason apologized, "Madeline, I'm sorry. I looked into it. She was the one who orchestrated everything that happened to you in the mental asylum! I really didn't know you would suffer that much. I was lied to as well! If I knew about it, I wouldn't have let them do that to you!"Seeing how I did not budge, Jason knelt in front of me."Madeline, I'm begging you to have mercy. The company was the blood and tears of my parents. If it goes down in my hand, I'll be letting them down."He looked remorseful. Gone was his domineering character."I beg you. For the sake of our past relationship, please have mercy."I chuckled from the bottom of my heart."Jason, have you ever once had mercy on me? We had no relationship. From the moment you sent me to the mental asylum, we were strangers to each other. "I have Camila to thank for this.

"Jason, what are you doing now?!"Jason looked at Ted condescendingly. "Ted, you're so protective of her. Do you like her? Have you become her lapdog just because she's an heiress now?"Ted punched Jason in the face. "I'm not scum like you! I'm warning you, don't you dare come near Madeline ever again!"Jason got up and walked past Ted. He grabbed me by the shoulders. I could see a weird gleam of obsession in his eyes."Madeline, are you with Ted now? Ha! Even if you're not an heiress, you won't have to worry for the rest of your life once you get in bed with Ted."I truly see you for who you are now. You never loved me. You only loved my money!"I was in so much pain. Looking at his malicious gaze, I suppressed the fear in me and looked him in the eyes."Just because you're dirty, you don't have to think that everyone's like you. You're the only blind one here who can't see who likes you for your money."Jason was about to hit me.The fear still overwhelmed me as I slumped to

I shook my head in disagreement. "I don't have a mother. Even if I left the orphanage and was adopted, I still didn't have a family."I did not know if I was saying that to Ted or myself.Ted suddenly slapped his lap. "Oh! I suddenly remembered something!"I looked at him with a cocked head.He looked at me excitedly and asked, "What if you could find your real parents?""Where would I find them? I don't even remember what they looked like."Besides, I could not remember how I ended up in the orphanage.Ted was silent as he excitedly scrolled through his phone."Look at this man. Doesn't he look like you?"He handed me the phone. I jumped when I saw the photo. It was a middle-aged man, and I looked very much like him."Who is this?"Ted's eyes gleamed with excitement. "My family has businesses abroad, and my father has deals with him. He brought me there once. I thought he was really familiar when I saw him, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I finally remembered why he loo

He saw the scars.I kept retreating, trying to cover my back, but he had seen the carving."Mr. Kirk, n-no one did this! Please excuse me!"I ran. Just when he was about to grab me, I opened the door and ran back to the dormitory. I changed into my old set of clothes. If Ted knew I was there, he would surely tell Jason. If Jason found out about it, he would bring Camila over to ruin my life. I was almost in tears.I only had the job for ten days, and I was about to lose it.I had not even worked for a month. What would happen to my pay?I bit my lips and thought about looking for Ted since he was the boss. I hoped he would be friendly enough to pay me for the ten days that I worked there.I planned to head back to the top floor to plead with him. Of course, I would have to bump into Camila right at that moment. "Madeline?"She was stunned for a moment. Then, she asked me, "Why are you here?" She sized me up and noticed that I was still in my old clothes. She smiled m

I could not bear to lose this job."Sir, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do it."Our commotion attracted the attention of many, but I could not be bothered with them. I was busy apologizing. The customer was unrelenting. He grabbed me by my collar, and he was about to hit me when he heard a rip.The tear on my uniform ripped a bigger hole, showing my entire back. The people who were watching us suddenly turned quiet. I tried to move aside to cover my back, but that did not help. The man suddenly cackled maliciously."Everyone, look! See what's tattooed on this woman's back."I shut my eyes in pain. The dizziness came over me once more. Those were not tattoos. They were carved deeply into me. It would never heal."Slave! Hahaha!"He read out the word carved into me. Everyone started murmuring among themselves, laughing in mockery.I felt suffocated. It would forever humiliate me.After all the torture I went through in the mental asylum, the staff there carved the word o
