Chapter 3

Author: Little Dazey
After dinner, Jason and Camila left the dining table as usual.

"Madeline, clean up."

I used to be the one cleaning up after them.

"Madeline, thank you for doing the dishes. We'll head to bed."

Camila ordered me around as if she were the mistress of the mansion and I was a servant.

I might be adopted, but I was truly treated like a servant. In the past, I used to like doing it because I could look after Jason because I loved him.

However, I did not love him anymore. Naturally, I did not want to do it.

"Don't you have a housekeeper?" I asked Jason icily.

Jason was a little stunned as he replied with a little irritation, "You used to do this in the past, didn't you?"

I looked at him as he spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world. He clearly did not care about my feelings at all.

"That was the past. Let the housekeeper do it now."

I headed upstairs to my room. I could hear Jason and Camila talking in the distance.

"Jason, did I cross a line?"

"No. Madeline's the immature one here."

"I can sense that she doesn't like me. Why don't I move out?"

"No. This is your home. Why should you move out? Don't worry, Camila. I'll talk to Madeline."

I shut the door, blocking their voices out. Whatever they said made me dry heave, but I really wanted to puke.

I bent over the toilet bowl, puking violently until all I could puke out was stomach juices.

I had not eaten that much food in a year. Since the food was so rich and fatty, my stomach could not take it.

Jason knocked on the door. I opened the door and retreated a few steps back, trying to stay as far away from him as possible.

He said frostily, "Madeline, let's talk. I'm going to marry Camila. She's going to be your future sister-in-law. When our parents were alive, they should've at least taught you proper manners."

Two years after I was adopted, Jason's parents died in a car crash. He was forced to take over the company when he was only in his twenties, but he did it excellently, even much better than his parents.

I said nothing, pursing my lips.

Jason frowned once again. "Why the hell are you acting this way? You've had that expression ever since you returned. Are we monsters or something?"

I shook my head.

They were not monsters. They were demons.

"If you don't want to do the chores, I won't force you to do them. You can rest however long you want, but you can't upset Camila."

Every single sentence Jason said revolved around Camila. I truly wondered how that woman managed to get him in her grasp.

He approached me. My breathing started to get shorter and shorter.

"Stay away!"

I felt suffocated. I subconsciously grabbed my own neck with both hands and yelled, "I was delusional! I was wrong! I shouldn't have loved you! I'm a terrible person! I'm the worst!"

Jason was baffled. He stopped in his tracks.

I felt much better when he gave me some distance.

I stood up to take my top off in front of him, but he thought I was about to seduce him.

With an icy gaze, he said condescendingly, "Madeline, it looks like your sickness isn't cured yet. Do you think I'll like you if you strip off your clothes? Do you think—"

Once I took off my top, he suddenly stopped.

"Camila only liked me for my money! When she found out that my company was about to go down, she left with all the money and antiques I had in the safe!"Jason apologized, "Madeline, I'm sorry. I looked into it. She was the one who orchestrated everything that happened to you in the mental asylum! I really didn't know you would suffer that much. I was lied to as well! If I knew about it, I wouldn't have let them do that to you!"Seeing how I did not budge, Jason knelt in front of me."Madeline, I'm begging you to have mercy. The company was the blood and tears of my parents. If it goes down in my hand, I'll be letting them down."He looked remorseful. Gone was his domineering character."I beg you. For the sake of our past relationship, please have mercy."I chuckled from the bottom of my heart."Jason, have you ever once had mercy on me? We had no relationship. From the moment you sent me to the mental asylum, we were strangers to each other. "I have Camila to thank for this.

"Jason, what are you doing now?!"Jason looked at Ted condescendingly. "Ted, you're so protective of her. Do you like her? Have you become her lapdog just because she's an heiress now?"Ted punched Jason in the face. "I'm not scum like you! I'm warning you, don't you dare come near Madeline ever again!"Jason got up and walked past Ted. He grabbed me by the shoulders. I could see a weird gleam of obsession in his eyes."Madeline, are you with Ted now? Ha! Even if you're not an heiress, you won't have to worry for the rest of your life once you get in bed with Ted."I truly see you for who you are now. You never loved me. You only loved my money!"I was in so much pain. Looking at his malicious gaze, I suppressed the fear in me and looked him in the eyes."Just because you're dirty, you don't have to think that everyone's like you. You're the only blind one here who can't see who likes you for your money."Jason was about to hit me.The fear still overwhelmed me as I slumped to

I shook my head in disagreement. "I don't have a mother. Even if I left the orphanage and was adopted, I still didn't have a family."I did not know if I was saying that to Ted or myself.Ted suddenly slapped his lap. "Oh! I suddenly remembered something!"I looked at him with a cocked head.He looked at me excitedly and asked, "What if you could find your real parents?""Where would I find them? I don't even remember what they looked like."Besides, I could not remember how I ended up in the orphanage.Ted was silent as he excitedly scrolled through his phone."Look at this man. Doesn't he look like you?"He handed me the phone. I jumped when I saw the photo. It was a middle-aged man, and I looked very much like him."Who is this?"Ted's eyes gleamed with excitement. "My family has businesses abroad, and my father has deals with him. He brought me there once. I thought he was really familiar when I saw him, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I finally remembered why he loo

He saw the scars.I kept retreating, trying to cover my back, but he had seen the carving."Mr. Kirk, n-no one did this! Please excuse me!"I ran. Just when he was about to grab me, I opened the door and ran back to the dormitory. I changed into my old set of clothes. If Ted knew I was there, he would surely tell Jason. If Jason found out about it, he would bring Camila over to ruin my life. I was almost in tears.I only had the job for ten days, and I was about to lose it.I had not even worked for a month. What would happen to my pay?I bit my lips and thought about looking for Ted since he was the boss. I hoped he would be friendly enough to pay me for the ten days that I worked there.I planned to head back to the top floor to plead with him. Of course, I would have to bump into Camila right at that moment. "Madeline?"She was stunned for a moment. Then, she asked me, "Why are you here?" She sized me up and noticed that I was still in my old clothes. She smiled m

I could not bear to lose this job."Sir, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do it."Our commotion attracted the attention of many, but I could not be bothered with them. I was busy apologizing. The customer was unrelenting. I tried to move aside to cover my back, but that did not help. The man suddenly cackled maliciously."Everyone, look! See what's tattooed on this woman's back."I shut my eyes in pain. The dizziness came over me once more. Those were not tattoos. They were carved deeply into me. It would never heal."Slave! Hahaha!"He read out the word carved into me. Everyone started murmuring among themselves, laughing in mockery.I felt suffocated. It would forever humiliate me.After all the torture I went through in the mental asylum, the staff there carved the word o
