All these memories flooded back to Alexander, and he just couldn't shake them off because he had left the house that day, and this man, never call to check on him But all of a sudden wanted him back. Because life is really unpredictable.he muttered

With that, he closed his laptop, took his phone, and scrolled through social media. He saw that Soundwave had signed a new artist, Rebecca David . She's not bad, talented, and she's even a Colombian student, that's nice. With that, he kept scrolling, thinking he would just attend the guest lecture because he had thought he would send Thomas...

********

At the other side of New York, in Colombia, Emma was standing near her class. She was already late, and the lecturer was inside. She didn't know how to go in because she had always come early to school to avoid attention

. But today, she was late because people were resuming, and she wanted to look okay. She had spent a lot of time in front of the mirror trying to look nice, thanks to her mom who had changed her wardrobe to tight clothes to boost her confidence. But she still lacked confidence.

She stood outside, frozen, worried about what people would say. She knew she wasn't pretty, but she didn't want people to notice. Maybe after mid semester, not now, when she couldn't handle criticism.

Just then, Jessica, a girl from her room, walked past. "You're not going in? Standing outside isn't going to make you slimmer. You're fat and ugly, everyone knows that. You just have to accept it and live with it." She left, not attending that class.

Emma was left standing, feeling embarrassed. Why is she so crue and sweet at the same time, she thought,

just then A guy walked past, pushing her slightly, and asked, "Good evening, Mrs Do you know where the financial accounting briefing is? We're doing our briefing today, and I'm lost. Why are you outside? Though ? Or Is your daughter inside?"

Emma was too embarrassed to reply. Mrs? Daughter? She is just 18 she felt dejected

The guy eventually asked someone else, who pointed to the door next to Emma . He turned to her with a weird face that said, "So why didn't you show me if it was this close?" and went into the class.

Feeling shy, Emma followed him. As she entered, there was a total silence, followed by snickers and laughter. The lecturer glared at her.

"And you are?" he asked.

"I'm Emma Stanford, sir. I'm from the Philippines, and I'm your student. And I'm sorry for coming late," Emma stammered.

"Yes, you're my student," the lecturer cut her off. "Why are you late?"

Emma explained, and she was asked to sit in her seat. She felt a heavy gaze on her and turned to see the guy from earlier staring at her intensely. And what was that in his eyes? Pity? Guilt? She didn't care and began to powder her face, ignoring the commotion.

The lecturer started talking about course outlines, registration deadlines, CGPA tracks. Emma wrote everything down like her life depended on it.

She felt nervous and unable to raise her head to

even look at the face of the lecturer. staring at her

compact as if it was the most interesting thing. A few minutes passed and yet Emma was still engrossed in whatever she was doing not staring, to avoid meeting the gazes of others.

“Emma Stanford!”

she heard, which drew her out of her thoughts.

Emma was taken aback by the high scale of the lecturer’s voice. Now everyone was staring at her.

Did you get what I was trying to say, or were you busy romancing your compact?” the lecturer asked.

Sir…I …. I did .. I jotted an……

“Emma Stanford, I don’t know whatever problem you have or whatever it is that you are going through, but you just have to focus. You have to be able to understand the way and navigate the whole of school before you will be able to become a better student. besides Everyone in this class is the same. We are equally the same Emma “

With that, a scoff was heard from row six. Everyone turned back to see it was Rebecca.

“Good morning, sir, she said.Everyone here, we are equal, right?”

The lecturer gave her a nod. Then she turned to the side, toward Emma.

“Including ....scholarship students?” she asked which drew a lot of laughter from other students.

The lecturer’s eyes hardened. Dead silence.

Everyone being a scholarship student or not we are all equal. And this should be the last time I hear you, or anybody, point to any scholarship student. That is, if any one of them is here.”

With that, silence fell, even though some scoffing and whispering laughter still held in the background. The lecturer finally capped his pen.

That’s all for the briefing. Attendance will be taken next meeting. One more thing all of you, every single person in this room, our first year Financial Accounting students, are required to attend the guest lecture today in the main auditorium. The guest is Alex Maradona.”

He said it with so much pride in his eyes. “I’m sure all of you know him, right? He is a multi millionaire and a well spoken man who will advise you on how to navigate school, surroundings, and other various lectures

He paused. And.. “He is a partner of SoundWave. Although the owner is not known, he is a prominent partner. And most of you who have talent you know how SoundWave builds people. Your certificate is not enough in this society. You need other experiences.

If you have talent, it will be better for you to attend this meeting. as he might be able to help a few of you.”

The room exploded. ..

Shouting. “Alex Maradona? Here?”

“Alex Maradona!

Oh my God,

he is like a ghost! He is so handsome!”

He is a multi millionaire! I’m very happy

A student raised her voice. Wait! “SoundWave? … Rebecca, isn’t that your label?

  • The Girl He Wasn’t Supposed to Want    Did you kiss him?

Are you coming in or not, Alex asked, or do you want them to eat you alive? Emma looked over her shoulder and saw that people were already looking around again, waiting. She was tired. She was scared. She needed to get in. If not, she would be in great soup. So she had no choice but to get into Alex's car. The car shut behind her. The car was too big, too expensive for someone like her. Leather, clean, something cold she couldn’t name. Emma sat at the back seat. Alex was still in the front seat. He didn’t say anything to her. He didn’t even look at her. He just ignored her like he was not the one who told her to get in the car just now. Thomas was in the front seat. She knew him to be the driver, but she’d never really spoken to him before. So she sat there feeling lost. Then Alex got out of the front seat suddenly and slid into the back seat with her. The moment he sat down, something closed. A panel slid up between the back seat and the front seat. She was surprised. So ca

The premiere was supposed to be over but the camera was still rolling. Dancers were still dancing like nothing happened, although it was obviously a false smile. But every girl had their phone up, replaying the video of Emma and Benji kissing. They couldn't believe that Benji could still somehow kiss a girl like Emma. Maya on the other hand was panicking in her seat. She knew it was her fault. She knew it was the live she did in the car earlier when they were coming in. That panic was evident. And Jonathan was already tired of calming her down . Come on G, calm down. It's not your fault. You didn't know. No, Maya said, panicking. It's my fault. If I hadn't been so clumsy, if I hadn't gone in with my phone live, none of this would have happened. Emma wouldn't be in this state right now. She gripped his hand tightly. Jonathan put his hand over hers and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles, Calm down. It's okay. Remember, the camera is still on us. We need this. We need to make thi

Emma was pressed against the wall behind the green room door. Both hands over her face. Shoulders shaking from crying so hard. “I never kissed Benji… I never… it’s all fake…” She whispered it over and over. Like a prayer. Like if she said it enough, it would become true. She hadn’t even watched the video yet. But she knew. It wasn’t her. It could never be her. Then heard footsteps. Coming her way She flinched. At first she thought it was fans. Emma stepped forward to the podium. For the first two seconds, no one said anything. Not even the reporters. All you heard was cameras clicking. Then the questions started. Miss Emma Stanford. Just from the sound of your voice… you sound happy to be here. So tell us how happy are you to be a member of Sunwave?” Emma swallowed. “I’m happy to be a member of Sunwave. I wasn’t expecting this. Anyone who knows me knows how little I think of myself. I don’t really see myself as someone who could do things like this. But I was pushed by my best friends. I’m hoping to grow into this place.” “Good,” another reporter cut in. “Speaking of background… we found out you’re not exactly from a privileged family. You live in Cebu. I heard you’re poor. And yet you got into Columbia. How did you do that?” Emma’s jaw tightened. “It was on scholarship. I don’t mean to make it a big deal, but yes. I’m a scholarship student. And I’m proud to say it here.” She said with annoyance clear

  • The Girl He Wasn’t Supposed to Want    Her mistake

He used his mouth to catch the piece of noodle stuck near the corner of her lip. Emma froze. Because she remembered. He used to do this in high school. Anytime something was on her mouth, he’d lean in just to embarrass her in public. So she’d stop being clumsy. “Oh,” she breathed. “You still remember this? I thought, now that you’re a celebrity, you’d forget it.” Benji laughed, pulling back into his seat like it was nothing. “Come on. Of course I remember. I used to do that in high school. Being a celebrity doesn’t mean I have memory loss.” But his hands on the steering wheel said otherwise. They were tighter on the steering wheel. He hated this feeling. His chest felt it. A pull. A taste he didn’t want to name. He wanted to linger on her lip, stay a bit longer. But it was Emma. His little girl from high school. In high school, the kiss meant nothing. Right now? It.. it just .. It did. “You know what,” Emma suddenly said . Almost a whisper. “If anyone saw us jus

That will not happen. I’m not showing much of myself. It’s just my voice. That’s all,” Emma cut in again. “That’s where you’re wrong, Emma. One day you’ll have to face the press. How will you do that? You’re still working on your self-esteem.” “I’m working on it, Clara. I can’t believe you’re saying this to me. I’m just a singer. I’m not an actress. I’m not some celebrity living on social media. All they need is my voice.” “Emma, a day will come when you’ll have to show your face. You will. People will be dying to meet you. You can’t hide behind audio forever.” Emma blinked at the dark ceiling. That wasn’t what she expected from Clara. If it was Maya, Maya would be screaming, hyping her up, pushing her onstage right now. But Clara… Clara was just quiet. “Forget I said that,” Clara said quickly. “You’re okay. You’re fine. I’m just worried about you. That’s all.” Emma’s throat was tight. “I have to go. I need to start arranging things for the premiere tom

Emma jumped. Jessica was sitting up on her bunk, curtain half-pulled back, watching her.“Jessica?” Emma whispered. “I didn’t hear you wake up.”Jessica’s eyes flicked over Emma’s outfit. “That hoodie isn’t doing you any favors. It makes you look bigger than you are.”Emma’s face flushed. “I know.

Tears welled up in Emma’s eyes before she could stop them, hot and humiliating. “Let me be,” she whispered, her voice shaking so badly the words almost broke. “I know I’m ugly. I know I’m not good enough for Alex. I’m not even trying. I don’t even like him. Can’t you just leave me alone?”Rebecca
