IRISH's POV

“How is he, doctor?”

“He is fine. Just sprained his ankle. He collapsed out of shock. He will be awake by morning. He just has to take the medication we prescribed, and he will be fine. Excuse me.”

That was a big relief. How I drove to the hospital in one piece is a miracle. I died several times and woke up; those words from the doctor were soothing.

Looking at the time, past midnight, I needed to catch some sleep. Hopefully, by morning, he would open his eyes.

“Where am I?”

Did he also lose his sight? Where else is this, if not a hospital room? Be nice now, Irish, but before then, I might as well tease him a little.

I kept my face like someone who’d seen a funeral. He tried to sit up; I rushed to him. “No, no, please don’t put weight on the leg. Can you feel anything?”

The look on his face, priceless. “What do you mean? What happened to my leg?”

“Can you feel anything?”

He was scared to lift it. I'd better stop; he was still not strong. I burst into a laugh.

IRISH POVI can't lie my way out, as it stands. “Lisa got it for me.”Here we have it. He was still looking at me like he was trying to process what I said.“Irish, I will ask you this one question, and you dare not lie to me.” I didn't want to look into his eyes; I feel like he will see through me. But why was he wasting so much time asking the question? For his own good, I hoped I would come out honest.“Why did Lisa buy a diamond wristwatch as a gift for you? Did you lie to her?”“Yes, I did. I banked on the fact that she likes you. I didn’t ask for it; she gave it to me.”“Why would you! You can't bank on people's feelings because of your selfish reason!”“Selfish, huh? Do you know what it means to spend thousands of dollars on an autistic patient? The seizures, everything! You are a Wellington; you don't know what it feels like to…”I couldn't finish my words. I ran to my room and jammed the door. I hate being vulnerable in front of anyone.I could hear his footsteps. He was knoc

JIMMY’S POVDaddy’s mistress. These two have to be kidding right now. Finally, the service was over, and I went straight to my dad.“Can I speak to you for some minutes in private, Dad?”“Sure, son.”Now far from people, I dropped it. “Just what are you thinking? Bringing your mistress to a family function? The only reason I didn’t create a scene was because of Mum. I don’t want her to get hurt, because she will find out how unfaithful her dear husband has become.”I saw the surprise on his face. He tried to say something, but nothing came out.“Surprise. You thought I wouldn’t find out? Newsflash, I figured it out, thanks to your negligence. I’ll go inside now.”*****IRISH’S POVFrom time to time, I kept looking outside the window where my car was parked. I can’t believe I bought myself a car. No more Grandmother’s old wreck. That car was worn out, but we had no choice but to manage it.I was living in my imagination. Today was a good day; we only had two classes. The class was free

IRISH’S POV“Yes, Sir. You were the first person I met when I came to the college. You even offered to carry my bag.” I saw the confused look on his face. Okay, I'd better not laugh now.“I can’t remember that episode. So I was told you will be leading the men’s team for this year’s swimming competition. How prepared are you? Even if you ain’t, we will start our practice soon.”What is he talking about? Oh no, I just remember. What to do now. Yes, I am a good swimmer, but that is if only I can identify as my God-given gender. I need to do something now. Think, Irish. Just think.I started coughing, holding my chest. “Are you okay, Idris? You seem to have the flu.” The way he shifted back like I had COVID, that means my act is working.“I’m sorry. I so much want to be part of this competition, but I have a serious cold. The doctor recommended I stay off cold water.”He used his fingers to tell me to go. Mission accomplished. Finally out of his office. Okay, where the hell is Jimmy? I

IRISH’s POVHer wink just confirmed it. This girl is mad. I only hoped she wasn’t coming my way.“Hey, boyfriend. How was your weekend? Did you sleep well? You know I wanted to come over to your place and spend some time with you. I missed you.”She was coming closer. Don’t tell me, this girl really wanted to kiss her supposed boyfriend in front of everybody, shameless.“Good morning, class, sorry. I had a little emergency.”I had never been happier to see Professor John in my life. Lilly went back to her seat quickly. My eyes went over to Jimmy. Of course, there was a smirk on his face. He was enjoying every second of the drama. But wait, did Professor John just say he had an emergency? I wondered what kind of emergency. A lady’s emergency, maybe. Looking at him now, for some reason known only to him, he was dressed unusually well. Black jacket, black trousers. He looked like he was coming straight from a funeral.“So let’s begin,” he said. “As we talked about last week, it is time t

  • The Girl They Called A Boy   CHAPTER 8

IRISH POVWhat will I do now? I don’t want to take the risk of turning over. Just then, I saw Jimmy’s car parked close to the court. He got out, looking around. I didn’t need anybody to say anything. I ran straight and slipped inside his car. Of course, he saw me; he followed right after.“Drive… just drive.” I strapped my seatbelt across my chest. That was close. Okay, that boy Dave will likely die between the thighs of a woman. I finally caught my breath. That was so close.“Sometimes, I just wonder what is going on in that head of yours. You should be called Chaotic,” Jimmy said.I’d forgotten he was the one driving. I needed to breathe first.“Well, maybe you should have informed me you’d be coming back with someone. For Pete’s sake, I am your roommate! And I deserve equal rights too.”What did I just say? Roommate. Now I’ve given him more reason to think I’m crazy. He chuckled, and of course, I know what that means. I bit my lower lip. Irish, zip it. Today has been a whole drama
