She smiled back at him, reaching out to touch his chest. Aria wasn't thinking about Ethan or Diane or their messed up situation. All she wanted was to be wrapped around him.

"You should probably talk to him about it yourself."

Bart had been getting looks like that for years. He didn't know it of course, because he didn't usually get close enough to women to see it. He'd certainly never stripped down to his underwear for one. The more her hands explored his torso, the less he wanted to talk about Ethan and Diane. Aria had tied her hair up into a bun, presumably for the swim. Having last seen her hair down at his birthday ball, it suddenly seemed very important to him that she had it down and not up.

His hand went to her hair and he undid the bun, pulling the scrunchie onto his wrist as he brought her hair down.

"You should wear it down more," he whispered.

She looked up at him and found his deep blue eyes staring down into her amber eyes. Unguarded tenderness greeted her. Okay fine,

“It's okay, Aria. I won't be away from you long this time either, I promise. I'll be by your side when you're ready for me.” She opened her mouth to protest, to beg him not to confuse her reckless heart, so, when he held up his hands in surrender and led her back to the table. “How about this? I'll put the flirting on pause while you sort out whatever you think you need to and for now I'll just be your family,” he said, holding a strawberry up to her lips. “What does that mean?” she said, staring at the strawberry skeptically. Troy bit into the strawberry, brought it back to her mouth, and was about to trace her lips with it when she decided to open up and bite into the rest of it. He grinned. “It means I'm here, Aria. It means I don't have anyone but you anymore. It means whatever happens, stay in my life.” The implication that that didn't go without saying hurt more than she knew it would

Troy was another person tonight as he twirled her all the way back to the forgotten wing, sending her into a fit of giggles, allowing her to forget, just for a bit, what was coming. He had champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries laid out for her on the desk, had the room dimly lit with candles. “I know, I know, the desk is off limits, but you're leaving tomorrow, possibly leaving me forever,” he said, holding his hand to his heart and frowning deeply to show her how hurt he was. Aria smiled and sat down on the chair he'd pulled out for her. “No reading tonight?” she asked. Troy looked to either side of him and then motioned for her to come closer. “Tonight I'm treating you to a super-secret Troy Pierce secret,” he whispered. Man, the way his eyes sparkled with mischief, the way she was always looking at his lips when he said st

31st November, 2019 Eyes on me, just me. He seemed to be telling her as he watched her official coronation happen. Aria kept flashing back to the moment Troy had taken the crown, her crown, and put it on her head while they were still on the battlefield. He bowed and said, “Your Majesty” and in that moment she understood that this was bigger than her, than her vendetta against Dean. How had he done it? Troy had gotten her to take back her order to crush Warlanda with a few simple actions and two words. And a look. It was the eyes that had sealed the deal, been her undoing. When he looked at her, Aria was sure he could get her to do just about anything no matter how much it hurt, no matter how angry she was. She'd been nervous about dressing up and attending a formal coronation, and rightfully so. Even as he watched her now, as they watched her now, there were people in that very throne room who wanted her dead. They'd have to go through

Aaron went right up to her. He wasn’t waiting for anything or anyone, not this time. He took her into his arms and pulled her close like a man being shipped off to war the next day. He wasn’t sure, but he thought that he’d seen it earlier. The tell-tale signs that Aria was afraid. Aaron was fluent in being able to see it, no matter how well she was masking it. All of this must be killing her. Only two weeks ago, she’d been promised these moments with someone else. The way he was looking at her made it clear that he could see right through her. Aria was really trying, but her insides were on fire. Everything just hurt so damn much. He turned her around and held her up against him. She gave a little gasp and looked back at him in spite of herself. “Relax. Just go with it. Let me help you make it hurt less,” he whispered into her ear. But Aaron only made it hurt worse. Because Aria really did want to be okay with it, wan

Maybe it was just the way she was, but Aria knew enough about the way she loved to know he’d be waiting a long time, maybe even forever. Could she really do this to him? With Bart, it was different. He had CC, and she had Troy, and they both knew what they were getting into. Not even Aria knew just how deep this thing with Troy went. They were many different things to each other, would always be many different things to each other. “I don’t want you to get hurt again, Aaron,” she cried. “I just can’t take doing that to you again.” This was the moment. He could just walk away. She would be okay. Bart would make just as worthy a king consort as he. But Aria had too much of him for him to just walk away from a chance to have her. He picked up the diary that detailed their meeting in the club and then the one that talked about their perfect week together. Even the ones that followed read like what it was, what they were, as they traded texts from thousand

2019, July 1st Dear Diary He came to see me today, was right in front of me and then he just wasn’t. Why did I run from him like I bloody always do? So what if I was a bloody mess? He wanted to see me, or at least I thought he did, and I wanted to see him. What did it matter how I looked? The way he watched me, sought me out as he followed me up to my room, he looked absolutely desperate. Should I have gone after him? I did try to find him as soon as the shock of him having left just as abruptly as he showed up wore off, but he was already gone. He’d returned home to Terres Somnia almost immediately after departing from Sartis Est. He is on a plane even as I write this. Maybe it was just as well we didn’t meet after all. What if he only came to break my heart? What if he only came to tell me that he’d moved on after all? Even if that was what he came to say, though, my stupid heart wants to hear it, wants to hear him. Should I call? Is there enough of m
