Aria's POV

Did Jason just... I gulp on nothing and I heave a sigh of relief. He isn't scolding me or anything. He's not mad that I bit Dary. He's even proud of me. He said I'm his girl.

If that doesn't make my night, I don't know what will. Mrs Sadie is still treating Dary while the man keeps ranting about how unacceptable such behaviours are and how they might actually have to send me back home.

My heart skips at that statement. I look up at the man through my lashes, then at Mrs Sadie, who looks away from me.

Great. She isn't saying a word. She's supposed to be defending me. She knows that the actual me would never do this to someone.

I mean, I did tutor her two little girls last year and I never bit them. I'm tops in all my subjects. I don't go around biting people because I'm not a fucking vampire!

"I don't wanna go back," I whisper to Jason. "Please, make him understand. I... I can't leave. I don't want to."

"Who said anything about leaving?" Jason holds me to himself, tighte

LILYElizabeth just stares at me. Her mouth opens. Closes. Opens again. She looks like she's trying to catch words that aren't there. Her hand is still resting on my arm, warm and grounding.I don't know why I said that. I shouldn't have. I mean... that wasn't the plan. I intended to hide my pregnancy for as long as I could. Wrap myself in oversized clothes until... I don't know? But I think I panicked or something."So..." she glances at my hand on my stomach. "You're pregnant?" She repeats. I nod again because nodding is easier than talking. My throat is thick, clogged. "Yeah, I don't know how far along I am. I haven't... I haven't done anything yet. You know, what pregnant teens do?" My laugh comes out wrong. "High school took up my time, actually. I... I had a boyfriend and I..." Cole finally turns around in his seat. Fully this time. His expression isn't angry or disgusted like I braced for. It's stunned. Concerned, even. He looks at Elizabeth first, then at me. “Pregnant,” he

AIDEN"You hit my father! Now he's..." She doesn't finish. She can't. She just collapses into Jason's chest. She hasn't really spoken to me since... well, since the ambulance came and whisked her father to the hospital. I feel like absolute shit. Jason's eyes are locked on her. He won't even give me a glance. He's too busy comforting his girl. And my girl? I’d let Lily slip through my fingers because I couldn't keep my hands at my sides or my mouth shut. My temper was a wildfire, and now it was burning down the only bridge I had left to my friends.I shake my head, standing and walking toward the exit. I can't stay here anymore. I get into my truck and drive back home. Home, I call it. It's so empty and cold that I flop on the floor, leaning against the table as I let my face fall into my palms and the tears start rolling. What the fuck have I done? I've messed with my life. Like messed with it. Lily is my focus. If she's not here, then I'll spiral. My phone is pressed to my ears as

LILYThis car... is too clean, too quiet... at least it would be if it weren't for the two toddlers. I can't seem to think about a thing as Jace keeps dragging my attention back to him, again and again."Lily! Look! Lily, look at the crane!" He was buckled in when the drive began. Then he asked... no, demanded... to be let out so he could 'sit like a big boy.' He’s seated next to me now, way too close. He keeps leaning across my space, his fingers brushing my top as he points out the window.“Is that a big crane? Is it? Lily?”“Yeah, Jace. It’s big,” I mumble, pressing my forehead against the glass, trying to find a pocket of air that doesn’t make me want to gag.“And look! A blue car! That’s like my blue shoes!”He’s bouncing now, his elbow digging straight into my side… right where my stomach feels the most tender. I suck in a sharp breath and shift, but it only makes him lean more.Beside me, Bailey has decided that she’s bored with her fruit-stained life. Yeah, Elizabeth actually

LILYI take my time to really ask myself if staying quiet is worth the risk. I mean... as much as Tyler was butting in my business, I know he's right. I don't know why I suddenly felt that way under the shower. It's never happened before. Honestly, I'm scared of breaking down like that again. Maybe it's a side effect of being pregnant? Who knows. Fuck! I know nothing about being pregnant. I don't know what to do. I don't know if there are certain foods I should take or not, I don't know if I should be taking certain supplements... I should be, right? The baby should be in good health.I breathe out, returning to the bathroom and shutting my eyes as I turn the shower on. This time, I don't panic. It's soothing. I finish my bath and there are clothes on my bed when I get out. I get dressed in the jogger pants and a basic top with long sleeves.A few minutes later, I'm creeping down the glass stairs. They don't light up as brightly in the morning, but the whole house already feels like

LILYI wake up to the feeling of tiny, sticky fingers brushing hair away from my forehead. My eyes snap open, and for a second, I'm totally disoriented until I see a pair of wide, curious eyes staring down at me."Oh, Shit!" The words leave my mouth before I can filter them out. I hear a muffled chuckle from the doorway. I scramble to sit up and look behind the little guy on my bed to see Elizabeth watching us with a soft expression.I heave a sigh and look back at the boy staring at my face. "Hey?" I say, taking him in. He's got messy bedhead, and pajamas that are a little too big."Hey," he says. Oh Lord! I don't know how to act around kids. Especially when they're this little and this cute. He must be... what was it Elizabeth called him last night? "You must be Jace," I start. "I'm Lily.""I know. Mommy told me about you a long time ago."She did? "Ummm... what did she say about me?" "That you're my big sister? And you're pretty and you love to play video games."Oh, wow. "It's

LILYElizabeth's dining room feels too big, the ceilings too high, and the silence between us is heavy with eighteen years of stuff we haven't said. "So, how is Jenna? Is she well? Did she... did she take care of you well?" Her voice is tentative, like she's walking on eggshells."Jenna was... well Jenna." I smile a little, then gaze down at my meal and sigh. The salmon looks expensive, and I was so hungry after having only breakfast and throwing it all up this morning. But now, staring at the steam rise from the plate, my stomach knots up. After being served a whole tray of dinner, I can't find my appetite. It's just... gone.I think I'm overwhelmed or something. I didn't know that my biological mother was this rich, nor did I know that she owned this kind of a place. I also didn't think she'd take me in and be this kind and doting. I feel her hands entwine with mine over the table and I look at her. She's gorgeous, really. Even with the tear-tracks, she looks polished. Her eyes ha
