Chapter 1

After the War of the Gods, Olympus forged a new pact with the last of the Titans.

From then on, the mortal realm was ruled by demigods. Those who carried the blood of the gods within them.

Once a century, Olympus held the Sacred Marriage.

The twelve ruling gods would choose mortal noblewomen as brides.

Their goal: to sire heirs with divine cores.

The rule was simple: whoever birthed a demigod first would see her husband crowned the next High Councilor of the Gods.

In my past life, I married Deimos, the son of Ares, a man renowned for his fierce devotion.

Soon after, I gave him a son—a demigod brimming with raw power.

A prophecy declared our boy would one day rule Olympus, and Deimos rode that promise to absolute power.

Meanwhile, my sister Evadne, blinded by the beauty of the Sun clan, insisted on marrying Lucian, Apollo's playboy heir.

But Lucian's philandering left her with more than a broken heart.

He gave her a divine blight, a curse that left her barren.

She blamed me for it. She hated me with every fiber of her being.

On the very night I was crowned Queen of the Gods, she set the holy temple ablaze, burning me and my son alive.

Then I opened my eyes.

I was back on the day of the Sacred Marriage.

Evadne had already broken into the temple and climbed into Deimos's bed.

I knew it right then. She had been reborn, too.

But she didn't know the truth.

The blood of the War God is violent.

Deimos wasn't a prize to be won. He was a monster in disguise.

...

"Please, Ianthe. Deimos and I... we gave ourselves to each other last night. On the altar of the War Temple."

Evadne sobbed, tears rolling down her pale cheeks.

"Deimos said he only loves me. His divine soul burns for me alone," she looked up, her voice trembling. "I know he was promised to you, but you can't fight true love. Please, let me have him!"

I almost laughed. She played the victim, but couldn't hide the frantic ambition in her eyes.

Yes, she had been reborn, too. That was the only reason she thought climbing into Deimos's bed was a winning move.

"Ianthe, what's done is done. Let it go," my father snapped, breaking the silence. "Once a divine mark is made, mortals cannot defy it."

He looked at Evadne with nothing but pity. But when he turned to me, his eyes were dead cold.

"If you cling to this engagement, you'll only humiliate our family in front of the gods."

I stared coldly at my father. He was always biased. Growing up, he always made me give Evadne whatever she wanted. Just because I was the motherless older sister, and she was the golden child he had with my stepmother.

In my past life, I chose Deimos. I thought he was safe. The Hades line was too cold, the Apollo line too fickle, the Zeus line too arrogant. Only the War clan, known for loyalty and devotion, seemed safe.

Six months into our marriage, I got pregnant. Then I gave birth to Tristan, a fiercely powerful boy. As the first demigod born from the Sacred Marriage, Tristan naturally became the next leader of the High Council.

Meanwhile, Evadne was obsessed with Lucian's pretty face. She used to parade him in front of me just to gloat.

"How can a brute like Deimos compare to Lucian? He's gorgeous. He radiates sunlight, and his gentleness in bed is something a savage war god could never learn."

But she never expected Lucian to be such a player. He slept his way across Olympus and left her with a curse that made her barren. She lost any chance at power. She blamed me for her misery and envied everything I had.

Then came that night. She drugged me and burned Tristan and me alive with divine fire.

Just thinking about it made my blood boil. I wanted to kill her right here, right now, to avenge my son. I clenched my fists inside my sleeves. The sharp pain in my palms kept me grounded.

No. Killing her now would be too easy.

"Fine. You can have him." I nodded calmly. "If you love Deimos that much, I won't stand in your way. I wish you both the best."

Evadne's tears stopped instantly. She practically jumped for joy. She smoothed out her dress and sprinted out of the room without even a "thank you," clearly eager to tell Deimos the good news.

"That girl..." my father chuckled, watching her leave. He turned back, saw my deadpan stare, and dropped the smile.

"Ianthe, I'm glad you're being so reasonable. As for your marriage... I have a plan." He walked to the window. "Perseus, the eldest son of Poseidon, has always liked you. Lucian, Apollo's heir, has also shown interest. They are both high-ranking, especially Lucian—"

"I'm marrying the heir of Hades."

My father froze. "What?"

"Orion. The eldest son of Hades. I'm going to marry him."

"Are you insane?" My father spun on me, horrified. "Hades? Ianthe, their house rules the land of the dead. Every other god shuns them. They don't even get any divine resources! They've sunk so low that..."

"So low that what?"

"That they can't even maintain basic divine dignity!" he pleaded desperately. "You'll suffer if you marry him! Pick Lucian or Perseus. They can give you wealth, status..."

"My mind is made up," I said flatly. "It's Orion."

I knew what most people thought. Hades meant death and rot. That prejudice bled over to his heirs.

For thousands of years, no noblewoman had ever married into the Underworld. Because of that, they never produced a High Councilor. They were shut out of Olympus's inner circle, forced to the absolute bottom of the food chain, starved of power.

But in my past life, as the divine fire consumed me, I saw a pair of silver eyes. Orion's eyes.

He was the only one who tried to run into the flames to save me, risking the fire's backlash. The blaze was too strong. He couldn't reach me.

But his charred fingertips reaching for me, the single silver tear that struck the ashes... that was the only warmth I felt in my final moments.

Everyone finally knew the truth. If she had followed the rules, she might have had a healthy kid.But her greed doomed her. This scandal made the War Gods the ultimate joke again.Rumors flew. People said Deimos was losing his touch. His wife cheated on him and even drank cheap satyr potions.Deimos was already in a foul mood. After this shame, he would only treat Evadne worse.A month later, I went out to buy rare herbs for the incubator. When I got home, I froze. The door was wide open. The incubator was smashed to pieces. All three soul crystals were gone.I remembered a sneaky figure I just saw on the street. Evadne. She carried a basket covered with my exact purple silk cloth."Damn it!" I grabbed the Underworld dagger Orion gave me. I sprinted toward her hiding spot.I found her at an abandoned temple outside town. I heard her creepy voice."Good babies, don't you cry... Mommy will make the pain go away..."I crept up silently. I pressed the sharp blade against her neck."Give me

When I woke up, three softly glowing crystals sat safely beside me. They rested in an incubator nourished by the River Styx.Orion sat by my side. He gently wiped my sweaty forehead with a soft towel.I opened my mouth to speak. A scream ripped through the air. It was Evadne."I can't! I don't want to do this! Kill me! Please! Just kill me now!""Evadne, hold on! You're almost there!"Her cries mixed with the midwives' yells in a total mess. Our delivery chambers were side-by-side, separated only by a thin wall. She was still in labor."Ianthe, you suffered," Orion whispered. He kissed my forehead. His eyes held deep worry, guilt, and crazy amounts of love."Is it too loud here? I can take you and the babies home to rest."In my past life, Deimos only cared about the baby.He didn't give a damn that I labored for a day and a night. He shoved the baby at me and told me to nurse him right away.To him, I was nothing more than a tool. A broodmare to produce heirs and secure his legacy. He

I didn't even finish my sentence. Orion jumped out of bed, got dressed, and sprinted out to fetch the descendant of Asclepius, the God of Medicine. The doctor arrived in less than fifteen minutes. He put his fingers on my wrist. He frowned, nodded, and shook his head. The room was dead silent. It was suffocating. Orion sat next to me. Worry was written all over his face. Finally, the doctor stood up and bowed."Congratulations, My Lady. You are two months pregnant. The Hades bloodline is unique. You will give birth to soul crystals. The birth will happen within days.""Crystals?" I looked at Orion in shock.Orion laughed softly, stroking my hair. "The Underworld has its own ways. We birth soul crystals first, then incubate them until they hatch."After the doctor left, Orion turned into a totally different person. He wouldn't let me lift a finger. He even carried me everywhere. He fed me the best divine delicacies every day. It felt like he was laying the entire Underworld treasury at

"According to the Covenant..." the Sea God emissary said coldly. "The ruler must be a pureblood demigod. Born from the main god's eldest son and his legal wife."His words sliced through the silence like a knife. The Sky God emissary stood up next. "This child has mixed blood. It breaks the sacred pact. Giving him the throne insults all divine bloodlines.""We refuse to recognize this... mutt's... rights." The Sea God emissary sounded disgusted. The Moon priest spoke without emotion. "The Moon clan stays neutral. We do not join political matters."And the Hades clan?We were not even asked. To them, we had no voice. Two of the four major clans voted no. One abstained. The last spark of hope in Deimos's eyes died."You brought shame to the War Gods!" He roared at Evadne. "A thousand years of glory, reduced to dust by a whore!"Evadne slumped on the floor with her baby. The madness in her eyes turned to despair. On the way home, Orion was super quiet. The carriage bumped along. He kept l

Deimos's voice boomed like thunder."Evadne, whose bastard is this? Who did you sleep with behind my back? Tell me the truth right now, or I'll kill this mutt myself."My father turned pale with fear. He rushed to placate him. "Deimos, calm down. This must be a mistake. Evadne loves you so much. She would never betray you."Emboldened by our father, Evadne presented the baby to Deimos. She coaxed in a soft voice, "Look. He looks exactly like you. His eyes are just like yours."Deimos coldly took the baby boy from her arms. The infant smelled of roses. The infant had been sleeping soundly. The second he saw Deimos's face, he let out a loud, terrified wail. That cry...I frowned in pain. Memories of my past life rushed in.Tristan screaming in the divine fire. That hopeless, helpless sound. It still echoed in my nightmares.Pain gripped my chest. I could barely breathe.Orion noticed my discomfort right away. He gently covered my ears and pulled me into his arms.He thought I just hated

Orion's icy voice brushed my ear."I know you didn't have a choice," he murmured, cold yet filled with a silent promise. "But I swear, I won't let you suffer."I turned and stepped into his chest. The scent of winter pine and cold earth wrapped around me—the deep, raw scent of the Underworld."I chose this," I said, my voice just as serious. "I chose you."A mess of emotions swirled in his silver eyes. Shock. Doubt. And a faint, hidden trace of tenderness.Three days later, two very different weddings took place on Olympus. The War clan's ceremony was suffocatingly lavish. On an altar made of solid gold, Evadne wore a dress dripping in jewels. They even dragged reclusive unicorns out of the woods just to witness the spectacle.By contrast, the Underworld's wedding was brutally simple. No VIP guests. No rare mythical beasts. But genuine joy lit up the faces of everyone in his clan. After all, it was the first time in a millennia a mortal had married one of their own. After the ceremonie
