Dinner was warm and quiet. The kind of quiet that isn’t peaceful. Just... stretched thin.

The long dinner table we sat around could’ve easily seated twenty people, but it was just the six of us. And the subtle but very heavy tension.

The twins sat on either side of Lucien, gleaming. Talia wouldn’t stop asking questions.

“What was your house like growing up?”

“Do you remember the names of your horses?” “Did you ever break a bone?”

And he answered every single one. Patient. Smiling. Like he belonged here. Like he was really their father.

I kept watching.

Ronan did too. But he was better at pretending not to. I saw the way his eyes flicked toward me every time I froze with my fork halfway to my mouth. Every time my knuckles went white from holding back a dozen different words.

He couldn't just waltz into their lives like that, acting like the father he never was. Bonding. It made me sick.

Then I said one of the many words.

“When will you be leaving?”

It slipped out sharper than I meant.

Lucien really can’t be redeemed maybe if he sacrifices himself or if time really could turn back. It’s being set up for Ansel and Ronan but what Ansel has done is unfortunate and Ronan is too good for her. Too bad Ronan is on the sidelines

Beginning Emerald quickly recognises the man as another member of the council but not one of the high Lords. Emerald asks what's going on. Nessa narrates what happened. The medics heard some noises and went in to check. They found him trying to take Quince's body. Emerald remarks that it doesn't make any sense. She turns to the man but he's already mumbling different words. Begging for mercy saying he has children and a wife. Emerald asks for clarity. He apologises saying he never wanted to but Quince made him and threatened his family so he had no choice and then “She” cameMiddle Emerald stops him there to ask who although she already knows who she wants that confirmation. She wants her name said by one of her accomplices. Just then Darius enters. Nessa rushes to him telling him he should still be in bed. There are a few things I was sure of in life:Cold coffee is a personal attack, My five-year-old son has more emotional range than half the men I’ve met, If one more man in a suit calls me “sweetheart,” I might legally explode. That morning, my coffee was cold. Again.I hadn’t even taken one sip. It was sitting on the corner of my scratched-up desk like a passive-aggressive reminder that I’d been too busy doing everything for everyone else — except myself. The rest of the office was dead silent. Which, in this building, was the equivalent of a horror movie soundtrack before the jump scare. And like clockwork… click, click, click. He was coming.Mr. Benton’s footsteps were easy to recognize — slow, deliberate, like his Gucci loafers were whispering, “I own you.”I didn’t look up. I’d made it a rule never to give him more eye contact than absolutely necessary. Eye contact led to comments. Comments led to hands. Hands led to exactly the situation I was trying to avoid.“Miss Moore,” he s

By the time the inner circle assembled, I was fully in control of my emotions again and the storm in my chest was nearly over. The Council chamber was filled with sharp eyes and stiff postures as I walked in. I sat at the head of the room, regal, cold. Untouchable. That was the version of me I wanted them to see.Ronan was seated just by my right, a constant reminder that I wasn’t alone. He knew the purpose of the meeting and I reminded him before we entered—watch Vane. Every twitch of his face, every shift in his tone. The plan was to bait him into a trap or to force him into going to see Selene. “Thank you for gathering so quickly,” I said, voice level. “The Citadel must begin preparations. War is no longer a threat—it is a certainty.”That got their attention.Elder Thorne leaned forward, fingers interlaced. "Has the threat been identified?”“Not formally. But yes, and a proper briefing will be done during our next general meeting.” I replied. “But it is of urgency that we strike

  • The Heart of the Queen: Legacy of The Moonborn   °•♡Chapter 83~ If Time Could Turn

It had been three days since I left the estate. Three days since I looked Aria in the eyes and promised her I’d find a way back to her. Not just to see her, but to be worthy of her again. I hadn't slept more than a few hours since. Strategy after strategy. Reports. Maps. Intel. Nothing ever seemed like enough. Not with Selene out there. Not with Aria slipping further away from me. I sat at my desk, head bent over half a dozen scrolls before me. My back ached. My neck was stiff. My eyes burned. But I couldn't stop. I couldn’t afford to. There was too much on the line. The main source of light was the flickering candle beside me. My eyelids felt heavy, my vision hazy. I blinked hard, but the blur didn't go away. My body was giving out. Maybe just five minutes… I let my head rest on the desk. The second my head touched the table, I was gone. And she was there. I was no longer in my study. The warm sunlight filtered softly through sheer curtains. The room smelled like li
