Chapter 2

I spent half the night in tears, unable to let myself grasp a hold of my situation.

So this was it?

Years of loyalty, affection and dedication. This is what I get? A divorce agreement on the day of our anniversary.

I must’ve meant so little to him. So little.

By the time I woke up the next morning, he was out of the house as usual, probably gone for his work.

Tonight was the night scheduled for his company’s annual gala, a formal reception held to always celebrate the company’s progress and achievements.

I specifically met up with a well known fashion brand to curate my husband’s and I’s fit for the occasion. I didn’t need to consult Samir about it since I could take care of it myself.

Albeit they needed to take his length and measurements. But knowing who my husband was and how he wouldn’t for a second spare them a second.

I had to rely on the so much I know about him already. I offhandedly tell them my husband’s details, his height, the length of his arm, every single thing they wanted to know.

Since this year’s event day was scheduled right after our anniversary, I imagined more to it than I should have.

My phone rang from the table where I’ve left it since I got the anonymous texts I received yesterday. I picked it up and saw the caller was Samir.

Instantly I slid on the answer button,

“Hello?”

“Yeah, I’m calling to inform you that I intend to bring a guest over today so sign those papers and be gone before evening. Understood?” He sentenced, in his usual cold voice.

That’s what he has to say still?

“Who is she?” I found myself asking. There’s no way he’ll suddenly wake up after five years and decided I’m not the woman he chose to let into his life.

“Who is who? And should that be any of your business?”

I chuckled painfully, “Tell me who she is, Samir. That’s the least you can do if I don’t deserve an explanation to why you’d do this to me, to us!”

“Us?” He filtered the word out like an abomination. “There is no us, there has never been an us. You know this, or have you forgotten about the papers you signed?”

“Oh no I haven’t. And weren’t we supposed to be married for three years? Tell me why it’s now five? Why didn’t you let me go when it was time to if you knew there has never been an us?” My words were courted with my emotions as I called him out.

How could he be so cruel and casual about this? What kind of a man monster is he.

“Just sign the papers, Rahne. We both know you married me for my money and I’m wiling to let you walk away with fifteen million dollars. That should be enough to compensate your dedication.”

“I-“ the line beeped and I checked to see he has hung up.

Furious, and about to call him back- another call him. This time, it was from one of my brothers. The eldest.

Wow. It’s been a while, why is he calling all of a sudden.

“Hey Rahne,” his familiar voice filtered through my hearing as I picked the call.

“You called, is there a problem?”

They’ve all believed I wasn’t worth catching up with after I decided that I was gonna let go of my dreams to become a housewife for Samir Kane.

“You don’t have to sound like that, you’re my baby sister and I’ll always love you.”

I rolled my eyes, “There is a problem, please get to it.”

“Yeah dad is retiring, and he now wants one of us to come take over since you’ve bailed after what- half a decade now? Gosh, and you know me and the others are not really about that kind of life. But you, it has always been your dream to run that company, you had ideas, you were always hyped to replace dad.”

I really want to believe that you’re doing great where you are right now, but I thought as your favorite elder brother that now would be the perfect time for me to try and talk some sense into you and call you back. Also you don’t have to leave the life you’re living, you can be a wife and a CEO at the same time. What do you think?”

“Dad is retiring?” My tone was suspicious. That sounds odd.

“Yeah, he’s kind of sick. Seriously when was the last time you checked in with him?”

Since I dropped all I’m worth to go become the wife of the man I’ve loved since high school. He was against it, in fact he forbade it. The only way I could go on with the decision was to let go of my titles and I did.

He wouldn’t speak with me since then, I’ve called him several times following the decision and he has snubbed me ever since.

“You’re silent.”

“He wouldn’t take my calls to talk to me!” I spoke up on my defense.

“And you tried visiting him when?”

Guilt had me silenced once again because I never tried to that. For someone who has snubbed my calls, that just doesn’t seem like a nice option.

“That’s what I thought,” he added. “Anyways, think about what I said and give me a feedback. Also, go check on your father. He’s angry doesn’t mean he doesn’t miss you.”

The call ended afterwards.

I really have given up on the future I had planned for myself because of someone who has proven to not be worth it.

My gaze fell on the paper in front of me. The label huge and capitalized.

He wants divorce? He’ll get one, but not after he tells me exactly who the other woman is.

I know there’s an other woman, the anonymous texts doesn’t only prove this, but when he said I needed to be gone because he has a guest coming over.

That was all the proof I needed.

And the perfect place to meet him and this other woman would be at his company gala tonight.

Chapter 9It was exactly ten minutes after I had Samir and his mistress walked out of my premises when I got the first call. “Hello?” I just spoke straight into the call without checking who it was that called. “Rahne,” Samir’s voice came through shockingly. I had to pull the phone off my ear to check out the contact. The caller was Samir indeed, why was he calling? “Hello? Rahne, are you there?” His voice continuously boomed through the speaker. “What do you want?” I decided to answer him, even though a large part of me would love to hang up on him right now. “I’m calling because I’ve decided that I will not paying you any divorce settlement. You’re nothing Rahne, I’m sure it was my money you used to pull that little trick you pulled tonight at the hospital. Your pathetic attempt to get back at me and Rose. There will be consequences, and one of it is you kissing your settlement goodbye. Also, come get your stuffs before I burn them all, I need to make room for my guest.” Fury

Chapter 8I stood at the private lobby provided at the private wing I had commissioned for the admittance of my father. The doctor and I just rounded up our conversation and I thought to share it with Gale. This was their fault. So I placed a call directly to him. “Hey, what’s going on?” Gale’s voice boomed through the phone’s speaker. “Someone has been feeding dad some rare type of poison, and it’s about to kill him. I just finish talking to the doctor who told me dad’s chances of survival is a slim probability. I was told the poison he’s been consuming has been damaging his lungs and a lot more. I-““Wait. Hold up! What do you mean someone has been feeding him a rare type of poison? How? Since when? How did you get to find that out?” Gale sounded genuinely confused. “We’re at the state’s general. I think it’s better I explain to you in person than on call, you can come with the rest. Call them and let them know,” I told him and before he had the chance to probe further, I ended

Chapter 7“Get away from him!” My tone throbbed with fury as I slowly approached her. What was her plan before I came in? Why does she have a frickin’ pillow held in her hand?! What does she intend to do with it?!!! I wanted to ask her the questions out loud, but not until she’s faraway from my father. She rolled her eyes at my reaction, “Oh relax. He was groaning and I thought he wasn’t in a great position and could use a soft pillow placed behind his head.” She stepped away from him whilst uttering her excuse. “You seriously wasn’t thinking that I’m about to suffocate him to death now are you?” She raised her brows at me. “If you think that’s what I had in mind then how far could it possibly be from the truth. I want you out of this room!” I told her once I’ve steadied my ground between her and my father. She chuckled while staring me down with a funny look, “And who exactly do you think you are that you think you can just come in here today and start bossing me around? Need I

  • The Heiress He Never Loved    Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Home sweet home. I couldn’t help the nostalgic feeling that swept through me upon arriving at the residence I’ve known all my life. Three to four maids including the chief maid herself instantly pulled up at the lobby to welcome me back home as well as proffer their services just Incase I’d want one- and I do. “Where is my father? Take me to him.” I didn’t specifically direct my order to one of them, but swiftly followed suit as one of them volunteered to lead the way. I came back just as I left. Without a single dime or material. “Thank you,” I told the lady who brought me up to my father’s bedroom. I sipped in a deep breath before I pushed on the door’s knob to grant myself an entry into the room. Here goes nothing. I stepped into the room. Exactly like how I left it, not a single furniture replaced or out of place. “Dad!” I called out alarmed upon sighting his sprawled body on the bed. I rushed over to his side. He looks unconscious, and alive at the same time.

  • The Heiress He Never Loved    Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Samir has never seen a different side to me before. It’s always the soft, affectionate and kind persona I’ve always shown to him. He hadn’t expected me to stand my ground on the words that I would not go down on my knees to beg for his and his mistress’s forgiveness. Even as I waited truly for him to do his worst. My gaze slowly grew into bewilderment as the door swung wide open and three huge men dressed in a formal suit strolled into the scene. Samir then raised a finger to point at me. “Hold her down,” he instructed, and those men instantly swerved to my side as two out of the three latched a grip on each side my arm. I couldn’t fight against their huge and steady force as I was forced down to my knees. “What is this?” I quizzed in irritation. He couldn’t get me to beg out of my own willingness and decided to make me do it against my will? “I might be on my knees but you’re not getting that apology you so much crave for. You and your stupid mistress can both suck it

  • The Heiress He Never Loved    Chapter 4

Chapter 4 By the time I woke up, I’ve been admitted and was met with the stench smell of the champagne that was dumped on me. I glanced to my side to witness the unpleasant sight of my husband with the bitch from my nightmare. She was all over him, rubbing from his chest to his shoulder, grinning from ear to ear- albeit, he wasn’t saying anything funny or even laughing at whatever she was showing him on her mobile. Samir stood rigid as usual, no expression of any sort in his face. “There was no need for the both of you to be in here with me,” I spoke up to the both of them. They instantly whirled their gaze on me. Rose took that moment to step away from Samir as she came up to me on the bed where I was laid. “He didn’t want to wait, I personally forced him to because I couldn’t wait and watch your misery alone. I needed someone to watch it with, and who better than the man you tried to steal from me?” She cracked an evil smile before she tapped on her phone, then brought the pho
