Chapter 3
I wouldn’t call what I had on a revenge dress, but right from the lobby entrance into the midst of the guests present for the premise of tonight’s function. I’ve been the center of a particular attraction. Admiration that is, pure and unfiltered admiration. Audible gasps flew past my ears, and subtle remarks of regards was no far behind. I haven’t laid my eyes on my soon to be ex-husband yet. I’m guessing he’s yet to arrive, but I took to the taste of champagne to keep me company. A man approached, and I observe him under a keen gaze. He was attractive, dressed neatly or nicely. He would’ve looked really better had he gel that rough hair of his. “I’m Ford by name, you look too pretty to be alone by yourself.” He curved a small smirk right after his sentence before his figure came to halt right in front of him. I purposely eyed him from the string of his hair right down to the leather shoes he had on. It was to test his ego. “I’m waiting for my husband,” I retorted, and then fully flicked my attention away from him. “Let me rephrase. I’m Ford Myers. Myers’ Corp.” He said like that was suppose to make a difference. My intention to snub him was abducted when the cagey chatters that filled the room went still. I looked ahead and saw who was making an entrance. It was my husband. Samir Kane, and right beside him was Rose Ledgers. Awe paled into my face as my lips parted in a silent gasp. I know that girl. Not only was she the bane of my life back in high school, she was also Samir’s girlfriend- no. They were rumored to be dating then, but it was never confirmed. They loved referring themselves as friends all the time. Compliments began to pool in about their appearance, how they looked so beautiful and perfect together. And they were factual. They do look so beautiful together. “That’s definitely Mr Kane’s mysterious wife. Gosh they look so heavenly.” A comment brushed at my ears and I cringed inward. I didn’t wait for them to fully settle and began interacting with the function before I set into motion to come do exactly what I was here for. I stopped when I’ve reached a space right behind them. He was currently introducing Rose to probably one of his clients as a good friend of his when I cut into the relation with a throaty cough. They were forced to stop as their attention fell on me. “Wow,” I faked a bright smile. “You both look the most stunning,” I said as I brought my arms up on my chest. I watched as Samir’s gaze slowly darkened as he threw eye daggers. “What are you doing here?” The words filtered out from his growing anger. My smile didn’t falter. “To meet the other woman since you won’t tell me.” I took my eyes off him to inspect the bitch at his side. I gave her a dirty look before I scoffed out loud. “She was not what I expected.” I shook my head disappointedly. “Who is this?” Her annoying pitch of a voice quested. Exactly like how I remembered it, she never grew out of the stupid voice. “Oh wait. Is this the pathetic wife of yours you said you were married to?” She gazed at me funny, also inspecting me with a dirty look like I did to her. “That poor piece of trash you told me was sitting lonely in a cafe until you decided to help her life?” “The lazy bitch with no fortune to depend on except for yours?” “The one you couldn’t let go of because you pity her too much?” She stared me down as she continuously dig words at me. Samir just stood there, silent as he allowed his mistress sprout lies about me. Does he not know me? The scene was beginning to draw attention and people were now starting to stare. “You’re just gonna stand there and watch her speak lies on my name?” I questioned with my eyes focused on the jerk I married for an husband. “I’m asking, what are you doing here?” He sidestepped my question to throw another one at me. “Probably to cause a scene. She’s a local nobody with no name who has fallen in love with the luxury you were offering her, and now that you’ve decided to take it away. She doesn’t want that, or am I lying?” She answered for me, at the course of berating me. I looked around and noticed we were now the center of attention. All eyes were now on us. “You think I need his money to survive? You think I’m with him because of his wealth?” I laughed out loud. “I see you’re still as stupid as I’ve always known you to be. But I can come back to you later.” I waved at her dismissively as my gaze settled back on Samir. “Now you, my dear husband. Are her words what you really think of me?” I had to ask, because all I could deduce from Rose’s mockery were hints of the image my husband had of me. Does he really think I’m a lazy bitch? That I was lonely and pathetic? “I’m not interested in doing this with you, Rahne. Tell me you’ve signed the papers and get the hell out of here to save yourself from whatever you’re about to cause.” A soft gasp ripped through my throat. I couldn’t believe this. His response, cold and cruel. His words, cautious and emotionless. “What could a greedy nobody like her cause even? Who is she to think she could just waltz in here and start a drama? Huh? Get out of here before I make you!” I was too heartbroken to even forge a reaction against Rose. I just stared, sad and betrayed at the eyes of the man behind the attack on my heart. “Are you deaf? I’m talking to you!” The next I felt was the cold spill of a drink splashed down on me. The scent a sharp smell of champagne. The reality in front of me shrank and the air grew dark and thin. I lost balance and my grip on consciousness.Chapter 9It was exactly ten minutes after I had Samir and his mistress walked out of my premises when I got the first call. “Hello?” I just spoke straight into the call without checking who it was that called. “Rahne,” Samir’s voice came through shockingly. I had to pull the phone off my ear to check out the contact. The caller was Samir indeed, why was he calling? “Hello? Rahne, are you there?” His voice continuously boomed through the speaker. “What do you want?” I decided to answer him, even though a large part of me would love to hang up on him right now. “I’m calling because I’ve decided that I will not paying you any divorce settlement. You’re nothing Rahne, I’m sure it was my money you used to pull that little trick you pulled tonight at the hospital. Your pathetic attempt to get back at me and Rose. There will be consequences, and one of it is you kissing your settlement goodbye. Also, come get your stuffs before I burn them all, I need to make room for my guest.” Fury
Chapter 8I stood at the private lobby provided at the private wing I had commissioned for the admittance of my father. The doctor and I just rounded up our conversation and I thought to share it with Gale. This was their fault. So I placed a call directly to him. “Hey, what’s going on?” Gale’s voice boomed through the phone’s speaker. “Someone has been feeding dad some rare type of poison, and it’s about to kill him. I just finish talking to the doctor who told me dad’s chances of survival is a slim probability. I was told the poison he’s been consuming has been damaging his lungs and a lot more. I-““Wait. Hold up! What do you mean someone has been feeding him a rare type of poison? How? Since when? How did you get to find that out?” Gale sounded genuinely confused. “We’re at the state’s general. I think it’s better I explain to you in person than on call, you can come with the rest. Call them and let them know,” I told him and before he had the chance to probe further, I ended
Chapter 7“Get away from him!” My tone throbbed with fury as I slowly approached her. What was her plan before I came in? Why does she have a frickin’ pillow held in her hand?! What does she intend to do with it?!!! I wanted to ask her the questions out loud, but not until she’s faraway from my father. She rolled her eyes at my reaction, “Oh relax. He was groaning and I thought he wasn’t in a great position and could use a soft pillow placed behind his head.” She stepped away from him whilst uttering her excuse. “You seriously wasn’t thinking that I’m about to suffocate him to death now are you?” She raised her brows at me. “If you think that’s what I had in mind then how far could it possibly be from the truth. I want you out of this room!” I told her once I’ve steadied my ground between her and my father. She chuckled while staring me down with a funny look, “And who exactly do you think you are that you think you can just come in here today and start bossing me around? Need I
Chapter 6 Home sweet home. I couldn’t help the nostalgic feeling that swept through me upon arriving at the residence I’ve known all my life. Three to four maids including the chief maid herself instantly pulled up at the lobby to welcome me back home as well as proffer their services just Incase I’d want one- and I do. “Where is my father? Take me to him.” I didn’t specifically direct my order to one of them, but swiftly followed suit as one of them volunteered to lead the way. I came back just as I left. Without a single dime or material. “Thank you,” I told the lady who brought me up to my father’s bedroom. I sipped in a deep breath before I pushed on the door’s knob to grant myself an entry into the room. Here goes nothing. I stepped into the room. Exactly like how I left it, not a single furniture replaced or out of place. “Dad!” I called out alarmed upon sighting his sprawled body on the bed. I rushed over to his side. He looks unconscious, and alive at the same time.
Chapter 5 Samir has never seen a different side to me before. It’s always the soft, affectionate and kind persona I’ve always shown to him. He hadn’t expected me to stand my ground on the words that I would not go down on my knees to beg for his and his mistress’s forgiveness. Even as I waited truly for him to do his worst. My gaze slowly grew into bewilderment as the door swung wide open and three huge men dressed in a formal suit strolled into the scene. Samir then raised a finger to point at me. “Hold her down,” he instructed, and those men instantly swerved to my side as two out of the three latched a grip on each side my arm. I couldn’t fight against their huge and steady force as I was forced down to my knees. “What is this?” I quizzed in irritation. He couldn’t get me to beg out of my own willingness and decided to make me do it against my will? “I might be on my knees but you’re not getting that apology you so much crave for. You and your stupid mistress can both suck it
Chapter 4 By the time I woke up, I’ve been admitted and was met with the stench smell of the champagne that was dumped on me. I glanced to my side to witness the unpleasant sight of my husband with the bitch from my nightmare. She was all over him, rubbing from his chest to his shoulder, grinning from ear to ear- albeit, he wasn’t saying anything funny or even laughing at whatever she was showing him on her mobile. Samir stood rigid as usual, no expression of any sort in his face. “There was no need for the both of you to be in here with me,” I spoke up to the both of them. They instantly whirled their gaze on me. Rose took that moment to step away from Samir as she came up to me on the bed where I was laid. “He didn’t want to wait, I personally forced him to because I couldn’t wait and watch your misery alone. I needed someone to watch it with, and who better than the man you tried to steal from me?” She cracked an evil smile before she tapped on her phone, then brought the pho
