Chapter 151

Damon’s POV

It felt like a privilege to me to have Piper accept my invite. I didn’t expect that she would, when I put a call through to her, I expected an excuse, or perhaps the words that hurts like, ‘I already have plans with Gavin’. I would have smashed my phone but luckily, she had accepted to come out for the dinner. That gave me hope, maybe I should take u the opportunity to tell her how I felt.

The coffee shop was nearly empty when she walked in. Her hair tied up, soft brown sweater, her usual calm but unreadable face. My heart gave a stupid jump, one I tried to hide behind the casual way I waved.

“Hey,” I said, smiling a little too easily.

She smiled back, polite but distant. “Hey, Damon.”

We ordered our drinks, sat by the window. The silence between us wasn’t uncomfortable, exactly…but it wasn’t easy either. I watched her stir her coffee like she was trying to find something deep in the cup. I’d rehearsed what I wanted to say a hundred times, but now that sh

Chapter 187Piper's POVThe sirens wailed closer, the blue and red lights flashing against the chaos, painting everything in alternating strobes of color that made the scene feel even more surreal, more nightmarish. People were crying, whispering, recording—phones held up like they were documenting a show instead of a tragedy, and the sight of it made bile rise in my throat—but all I could see was Damon.Lying there in Lucas's arms, covered in blood that seemed impossibly dark against the grass, against his skin, against everything. Too much blood. Far too much. The man who confessed his feelings even when I wasn't ready to hear them, standing there vulnerable and honest while I hid behind confusion and fear. And now, he was slipping away right in front of me. "You have to fight, Damon!" I sobbed, my voice raw and breaking as I crawled closer on my hands and knees, not caring about the blood soaking into my dress, not caring about anything except getting to him. "You have to make it

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 186

Chapter 186 Damon's POV Everything was blurry. The world had turned into a slow, bleeding haze of color and sound—sirens, screaming, the muffled thump of footsteps. But above it all, I could hear Lucas. He was shouting my name over and over, his voice cracking like it hadn't in years. I wanted to tell him to calm down, to stop making that sound…it hurt hearing him like that... that was a different kind of pain altogether. But my mouth wouldn't move the way I wanted it to. My body felt so heavy, like I was sinking into the earth. Like gravity had decided I belonged somewhere beneath the surface, pulling me down with invisible hands. My limbs were lead weights, unresponsive, disconnected from my brain's desperate commands. I could taste blood, it filled my mouth every time I tried to breathe. My chest burned, each inhale shallow, ragged. The air wouldn't come properly anymore. My lungs felt like they were full of something thick and wet, drowning from the inside. Every breath was a

Chapter 185 Lucas' POVDamon had a faint smile on his face. That's what destroyed me most , it was heartbreaking and wrong, weak and fragile, almost peaceful, like he'd accepted something I refused to acknowledge. Like he was saying goodbye. His lips were pale, drained of color, and they curved upward just slightly at the corners as he struggled to breathe. Each inhale was a wet, rattling sound that made my chest constrict with terror. "Stay with me, Damon… stay with me," I begged, my voice cracking under the weight of panic I couldn't control anymore. The professional mask I always wore, the composed exterior I'd perfected over years — it was gone, shattered completely. "Don't you dare close your eyes. Look at me. Damon, look at me!" My hands pressed down hard on the wound, fingers splayed wide, trying to cover as much area as possible. But the blood wouldn't stop. It just kept coming, soaking through my fingers no matter how much pressure I applied, warm and terrifyingly stead

Chapter 184 Hannah's POV Everything happened in slow motion. The laughter, the bright lights, the music, all of it faded into a distant hum, like someone had turned down the volume on the entire world. One moment I was smiling at Lucas, my fingers brushing fake cobwebs off his sleeve, teasing him about how he had somehow managed to get them tangled in his hair too. His eyes were crinkled at the corners the way they did when he was genuinely happy, and I was thinking about how perfect this night had been despite everything we had been through. Then… BANG! The sound was deafening, monstrous, the kind that ripped through your chest and stole the air from your lungs. It was not like the fireworks we had been hearing all night — those were celebratory, distant, contained. This was violent, immediate, wrong in every possible way. The sound echoed through my bones, rattling my ribcage, making my ears ring with a high-pitched whine that drowned out everything else. I froze —

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 183

Chapter 183 Lucas' POV It happened in less than a second. One moment, we were laughing — Hannah's hand warm in mine, her fingers intertwined with my own, her smile glowing beneath the Halloween lights that cast everything in shades of orange and gold. She'd been mid-sentence, telling me some story about her childhood Halloweens at the orphanage, her eyes bright with the kind of joy I'd been fighting to restore in her for weeks. The sound of fireworks boomed overhead, children shrieked with delight somewhere nearby, and the air smelled like caramel apples and smoke. It was perfect. We were perfect. The next moment, Damon was suddenly in front of us, his face twisted with something I'd never seen before, pure, undiluted terror. His eyes were wide, wild, his mouth open in a shout I couldn't quite hear over the music and crowd noise. He was running, sprinting toward us with an urgency that sent ice shooting through my veins. I didn't understand why he was panicking. I knew somethin

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 182

Chapter 182 Damon's POV We had moved from the benches to the open field where the Halloween crowd was thickest with families with kids running around with glow sticks and candy bags, couples laughing and taking endless photos, fireworks booming above in bursts of red and gold that painted the sky. Street performers were doing fire acts, a band was playing somewhere to our left, and the energy should have been infectious, celebratory. It should've felt festive, alive, full of that particular magic that only Halloween nights can create. Instead, something about the night carried a weight I couldn't shake, a tension sitting heavy on my shoulders that I couldn't quite name or explain. Maybe it was the awkwardness with Piper still lingering in my chest like a bruise or it was just exhaustion from too many late nights and too much coffee. But something felt off, wrong in a way that made my instincts prickle with warning. My phone buzzed insistently in my pocket, breaking through my th
