Chapter 176

Damon’s POV

Heartbreak has a strange way of creeping up on you — not loud or dramatic, just quiet enough to hollow you out. It’s in the way your chest tightens at random hours, in the moments you scroll through your phone out of habit, then stop yourself before typing the name that still sits in your fingers like muscle memory.

That morning I had drove up to Lucas’ private penthouse, mostly to check on him, partly to get away from the emptiness of my own apartment. The second I walked through the gate, I noticed the laughter, the little spark that only new love gives off.

Piper was there. So was Gavin, it was terrible for me to bear, I regretted ever going there.

That evening, my sister, Clarissa, called. She had this annoying ability to sense when I was trying to brood.

“Still sulking?” she teased over the phone.

“Define sulking,” I said dryly.

She laughed. “Perfect. You sound miserable. That’s my cue. You’re going on a date.”

“Clarissa…”

“No excuses, Damon. Sh

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 183

Chapter 183 Lucas' POV It happened in less than a second. One moment, we were laughing — Hannah's hand warm in mine, her fingers intertwined with my own, her smile glowing beneath the Halloween lights that cast everything in shades of orange and gold. She'd been mid-sentence, telling me some story about her childhood Halloweens at the orphanage, her eyes bright with the kind of joy I'd been fighting to restore in her for weeks. The sound of fireworks boomed overhead, children shrieked with delight somewhere nearby, and the air smelled like caramel apples and smoke. It was perfect. We were perfect. The next moment, Damon was suddenly in front of us, his face twisted with something I'd never seen before, pure, undiluted terror. His eyes were wide, wild, his mouth open in a shout I couldn't quite hear over the music and crowd noise. He was running, sprinting toward us with an urgency that sent ice shooting through my veins. I didn't understand why he was panicking. I knew somethin

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 182

Chapter 182 Damon's POV We had moved from the benches to the open field where the Halloween crowd was thickest with families with kids running around with glow sticks and candy bags, couples laughing and taking endless photos, fireworks booming above in bursts of red and gold that painted the sky. Street performers were doing fire acts, a band was playing somewhere to our left, and the energy should have been infectious, celebratory. It should've felt festive, alive, full of that particular magic that only Halloween nights can create. Instead, something about the night carried a weight I couldn't shake, a tension sitting heavy on my shoulders that I couldn't quite name or explain. Maybe it was the awkwardness with Piper still lingering in my chest like a bruise or it was just exhaustion from too many late nights and too much coffee. But something felt off, wrong in a way that made my instincts prickle with warning. My phone buzzed insistently in my pocket, breaking through my th

Chapter 181 Lily's POV The crowd was a blur of color and noise, music pulsing through the streets with a bass so heavy I could feel it vibrating in my chest, laughter echoing off buildings in waves of sound that should have felt joyful but only grated against my nerves, lights spinning in dizzying halos overhead, casting everything in alternating shadows and brightness. Halloween revelry at its peak, thousands of people celebrating, living, enjoying their perfect little lives. But none of it reached me. None of it mattered. My breath was slow, controlled, measured like I'd practiced in the mirror for hours. In for four counts, hold for four, out for four. My heartbeat was steady, rhythmic, like a ticking clock counting down to inevitability, to the moment I'd been planning for days, to the end of all this suffering. I adjusted the peacock mask on my face for the third time in as many minutes, feeling the cool silk press against my cheekbones, the elastic band pulling slightly

Chapter 180 Gavin's POV I knew there was something off, something fundamentally changed in Piper's demeanor the moment she saw Damon standing there in the crowd. It was in the way her smile faltered, not completely disappearing but losing its genuine warmth, becoming something more performative. t was in the way her voice softened almost imperceptibly, like air catching in her throat before words could fully form. It wasn't dramatic or obvious, not enough for most people to notice or comment on, but I did. I noticed everything when it came to her. The nervous swallow that made her throat work, the way she suddenly looked anywhere but directly at him, as if eye contact might betray something she wanted to keep hidden. And it told me everything I needed to know. So this was the man who was supposed to be my rivalry. I remembered seeing him once before, briefly, during that morning I'd driven to Piper's apartment building looking for Hannah and had encountered Piper and Damon, b

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 179

Chapter 179 Piper's POV The city was alive with neon lights reflecting off wet pavement from an earlier rain, laughter spilling from every corner, and the electric buzz of excitement that only Halloween could bring. People in costumes filled the streets like a moving painting with superheroes striking poses, witches with elaborate makeup, vampires with fake blood dripping dramatically, and a few who clearly didn't understand the concept of dressing up at all and were just wearing their regular clothes with cat ears. I adjusted the black braided wig on my head, making sure it sat properly, and glanced at Gavin, who looked absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way. He'd gone all in on his Thing costume, wearing all black with one hand covered in a prosthetic that made it look pale and disembodied, complete with detailed knuckle wrinkles and painted fingernails. He kept making it "crawl" up his arm, which had already scared three different children and made me laugh every time.

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 178

Chapter 178 Damon's POV The city center was a carnival of chaos with laughter echoing off buildings, music blaring from multiple directions, colored lights strung between lampposts, and what seemed like a thousand people parading in every kind of costume imaginable. Vampires posed dramatically for selfies beside Disney princesses, kids ran around with candy buckets twice their size, their parents chasing after them with exhausted determination, and somewhere in the middle of it all, a street performer was juggling flaming torches like he had absolutely no sense of self-preservation or concern for public safety. And there was me, the lone third wheel, trudging a few paces behind Lucas and Hannah like an uninvited extra in a romantic comedy, the friend who should've stayed home but came anyway because the alternative was sitting alone in his apartment feeling sorry for himself. They were impossible to miss in the crowd. Lucas was dressed as Gomez Addams with his sleek black pinst
