Chapter 31: Witch in the Parking Lot

**Hannah’s POV**

“Careful, she’s slipping again,” Lucas muttered, adjusting Piper in his arms as we stepped out of the suffocating heat of the party into the cool night.

“I’ve got her,” I said quickly, though I really didn’t. Piper’s head lolled against his shoulder, her messy curls bouncing with every step. She groaned something unintelligible then she giggled and hiccupped.

The other guy, who Lucas had called, Damon was at my side, calm as though this wasn’t a scene at all. He held the exit door open for us like it was all part of his job description.

We crossed into the parking lot, the muffled bass still thumping behind us. I was relieved thinking I had finally been able to escape the judgmental and calculative eyes of those spectators, but my relief was short lived.

“Oh… Hannah!”

I can recognize that voice anywhere, unnecessarily sweet, syrupy and poisonous.

I stiffened in shock while Lucas slowed down. Damon raised a brow like he’d be

Chapter 34: Reverse Psychology and Bad Timing**Lucas’ POV**“You…” My voice cracked, tangled somewhere between disbelief and amusement. “You really do like me.”Hannah groaned so loud it was almost theatrical, her face burying itself in her palms like she could block me out completely. “Oh, snap out of it, don’t you get it?!”Her voice was muffled against her hands, frantic, desperate. She was ready to explain, to claw back every ridiculous word she’d just thrown at me. I could see it in the twitch of her shoulders, the way she peeked at me through her fingers like I was holding her humiliation hostage. And I was, because I wasn’t about to let this go. Not when she’d just admitted to stalking me online and declaring she’d be happy to marry me. Oh, I was going to milk that until the end of time. She finally dropped her hands, cheeks flaming, lips parted in a rush of words that stumbled over one another in their haste to escape. “Just… forget I said anything. I was trying to… I don’t kn

Chapter 33: The Declaration*Hannah’s POV* “You’re such a…”The word snagged on my tongue, sharp and poisonous, begging to be released. ‘Arrogant jerk.’ That’s what I wanted to spit at him for calling Piper’s apartment ugly. It was burning at the back of my throat, itching to leap across the dark car and slash the smug curve of his mouth. But I swallowed it, holding the venom back. I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of calling him out, wasn’t about to sound like some shrill witch who couldn’t keep her temper in check.Lucas smirked anyway, as though he knew exactly what I was going to say. His fingers tapped lazily against the steering wheel, a slow, steady rhythm that grated on my nerves. The faint glow of the dashboard painted shadows across his face, catching the hard lines of his jaw, the slight arch of his brow, the dangerous ease in his expression. He didn’t have to speak to make me feel like I was already losing.Piper at the back seat snored faintly, her curls smashe

Chapter 30: The InterruptionLucas’ POVThe spotlight swung with me, swallowing me whole until I reached the stage. The brightness was blinding, the heat of it prickling my skin. Jack still had Hannah’s wrist, his knuckles pale with the force of his grip. His face twisted between shock and rage, but the second my shadow loomed over them, I saw his bravado faltered.I reached out and took Hannah’s free hand. Her skin was cold, trembling so badly it shot through me like electricity.“Let. Her. Go,” I repeated, quieter this time, the words dropping heavy and sharp as a blade pressed to the throat.Jack sneered, trying to mask his unease with bluster. “Who the fuck are you? Oh wait…” His eyes flickered, recognition dawning, his smirk crawling back onto his lips like rot returning to fruit. “The library guy.”The crowd stirred, murmurs rising, laughter spilling in small bursts. They weren’t sure what they were watching yet. Romance, drama, or a fight about to break loose. Phones angled hig

Chapter 29: Let Go of HerLucas’ POV“I swear, Damon, if I have to watch one more second of this circus, I’ll do something.”Damon slid up beside me with his usual smirk tugging at his lips as though this was a theater show and not an unfolding disaster. He moved with that casual air he always carried, like nothing in the world could surprise him, not even this public implosion.I could almost hear his thoughts: he’d gotten bored sitting in the car, and now that the scene had escalated, he wasn’t about to miss front-row drama. He must have arrived right around the moment Jack went down on one knee…the crescendo of lunacy.“You mean this little Broadway debut?” Damon tilted his chin toward the stage. “The guy is either auditioning for a soap opera or trying to hold New York hostage until she says yes.”My jaw tightened. “He’s bent on either having her or…” I ground the words out, “…having her. And it’s starting to irritate me.”Damon gave me a side-eye, sharp and amused. “irritate?”I

Chapter 28: Spotlight ConfessionsHannah’s POV“My beautiful Hannah.”The words rolled out of Jack’s mouth with all the confidence of someone who believed the world had been waiting for him to say them. He clutched the microphone like it was a sword, smiling as though he had just slain a dragon and I was his trophy to claim in front of the entire school.I froze under the sharp heat of the spotlight. My heart thudded in my chest so loud I was sure the DJ’s speakers picked it up. The crowd screamed, cheered, clapped, their voices crashing into one another until the sound became a single roar. Phones shot into the air, flashes popping like fireworks. My cheeks burned as though every light in the building had been turned on me alone.Jack stretched out his hand, his grin plastered wide. “First of all, thank you for coming here because I asked you to,” he announced proudly, as if my very presence were proof of our great love story.I wanted to sink into the floor. I hadn’t come because of
