“ARE YOU LISTENING?” Celene furrowed her brow as she observed Agnes. She had been talking constantly, giving an overview of the company’s operations, employees, and necessary knowledge, but it seemed like Agnes wasn’t paying attention to a single word she said.

“To be completely honest, no. I don’t see the need to listen to you as if you were above me. I am fully aware of how to—”

“I hold a higher position than you, as I am a general manager. So, watch your mouth and behave professionally. If you are unable to do so, perhaps it is best for you to quit.” Celene interrupted her mid-sentence, causing them both to stop walking in the empty hallway. They then turned to face each other, each raising an eyebrow in a challenge. “Where do you even get the audacity to ask my husband to give you a position in his company?”

Agnes chuckled; her expression filled with a hint of condescending amusement. She folded her arms and took a step closer to Celene, leaning in towards her face.

“I didn’t ask him, I just seduced him a little and acted pitiful, saying I wanted to work.” she sneered, “I wasn’t even expecting him to give me work, but he did it anyway because he was still into me,”

Despite being stressed and sleep-deprived, Celene held her jaw tightly as she struggled to restrain herself from slapping the wench right in her stupid smirk. She didn’t want to give in to the provocation, knowing that Agnes was trying to paint her as a villain again and play the victim.

“And you’re proud of how lowly of a woman you are?” she retorted and scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest as she stepped forward to mimic Agnes’ earlier actions. But being taller than her, she made sure to loom over her. “I pity your parents to have a shameless daughter like you who would proudly leech off a married man.”

Agnes couldn’t help but flinch, her face contorting with anger as Celene’s words hit a sensitive nerve. After all, her parents had abandoned her when she was 14, saying they couldn’t take care of her anymore because she was hard to handle. The memories of begging them not to leave her flooded back, causing her to tremble with fury. But she quickly regained composure, determined not to lose in this battle of words with Celene.

“You should pity yourself instead since you were an orphan. You grew up without a family, maybe that was the reason why you’ve become a gold digger.” Agnes snorted, “Did you think I wouldn’t recognize you? You were the waitress at the restaurant where I dumped Jarred four years ago, weren’t you?”

“So, what if I was?” Celene challenged, ignoring the insult thrown at her. “How was that relevant to this conversation?”

“Because you were the one leeching off Jarred first. You’re a cunning woman who exploited his emotional state during our breakup.” Agnes replied, but her comeback just made Celene laugh mockingly.

“Are you dumb? What would I leech off him when he wasn’t even successful that time?” She snickered, “I am the one who helped him achieve his success today. If there was a gold digger here, it was clearly you.”

“How can you be so cruel?” Agnes’ behavior shifted abruptly, and at that moment, Celene could sense that she was plotting something again. She turned her head to the side and saw Jarred approaching, his eyes narrowing at her as if warning her to stop harassing his ex.

‘Since when he was standing there?’

“She called me a gold digger first—”

“I don’t need your explanation,” He replied shortly, shooting a disapproving look toward Celene, “Are you seriously going to harass her even in the company? Don’t you have any shame or conscience?”

“I knew it, I shouldn’t have accepted the job you offered.” Agnes’ voice cracked slightly as she dabbed her crocodile tears.

“Don’t say that; I offered you the job because I know you need it.” Jarred’s hand moved in soothing circles on her back, as if they were alone and not facing his wife. Celene’s fist tightened, the intense emotions of pain and anger pushing her toward a breaking point. She longed to stand up for herself, but she knew it would be pointless; her husband had chosen sides, and it wasn’t hers.

Agnes had already taken control over him so quickly, and if this pattern continued, their marriage would become a complete disaster.

“Choose,” Celene abruptly broke their moment, causing Jarred to turn to her with a puzzled expression.

“What?”

“I said choose,” she repeated, her expression unreadable. “I know our relationship wasn’t on good terms lately, but how can you keep favoring your ex and act like I am not your wife?”

“What? When did I—”

“Don’t play dumb, Jarred. You knew exactly what you were doing. Did you really think I would let this go on? I agreed to have that conniving woman stay with us because of your promises and my trust in you. But seeing you siding with her without even listening to my side of things, was not something I can tolerate.” Celene steeled herself, trying her best not to shed any tears, “So, choose, kick her out of the house, or divorce me,”

Jarred’s eyes widened in shock when Celene uttered the word ‘divorce’. He gazed at her closely, noticing her pale complexion. For a moment, he was speechless as he pondered how to respond. Then, his gaze shifted to Agnes, who was standing behind him watching the exchange with tears in her eyes.

“Is that your answer?” Celene’s smile turned bitter, and she turned away, eager to leave. But her eyes widened in surprise when Jarred reached out and took her hand, preventing her from leaving. Agnes gritted her teeth with frustration; she was sure that Jarred would choose her over Celene and their marriage would crumble, but it seemed she needed to put in more effort to completely ruin their relationship.

“I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t realize what I was doing, let’s go to my office and talk there,” he said, and Celene nodded.

“What? What about me?” Agnes complained, causing Jarred to turn to her.

“Go back inside the office and ask someone to show you around,” he answered before pulling Celene gently along with their hands intertwined.

At that moment, she felt a sense of relief, and when she turned to see Agnes glaring at them, she couldn’t help but smirk. It was as though she had won this battle, but in the back of her mind, she worried that her victory would only be temporary, and she would soon be pushed aside again.

As the married couple walked into the office, a tense silence hung between them, but after several seconds, Jarred cleared his throat and turned to face his wife. Honestly, he was still taken aback when she brought up the topic of divorce over something that happened in the past few days. It was unexpected, and his immediate thought was that he couldn’t let go of Celene just yet. Not when he was planning to make a proposal deal with De Laruente Corporation, one of the country’s largest companies.

He knew his plan would not go smoothly without his wife’s top-notch business skills, which is why he decided to choose her instead of Agnes and apologize first.

“Why is it so easy for you to mention divorce? Have your feelings for me changed?” he asked, pulling her closer by the waist as he stared into her eyes deeply.

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that? Are your feelings for me still there? Do I even matter to you anymore?” Tears began to fall from Celene’s eyes as she turned her head away, unable to meet his gaze.

Seeing his wife in such a vulnerable state, Jarred took the opportunity to regain her trust. He smiled and gently lifted her chin with two fingers, making her look at him before speaking in a soft tone.

“Of course, you do matter to me. I’m sorry for how I acted the past few days; losing the deal with Mr. Nakamura really affected me. But I won’t let it bother me anymore, and I’ll make sure he pays for what he did to you.” He rubbed her cheeks with his thumb and wiped away her tears that fell freely, “If you’re willing to give it another chance, then please forgive me. I will do anything to make amends.”

“If having Agnes around is causing you distress, I can arrange for her to stay at the hotel instead of our home. And if you feel like I’m always taking her side, I’ll stop doing so for the sake of our relationship and your peace of mind.” His smile seemed genuine as he spoke, and his determination was clear.

However, Celene couldn’t help but feel unsure about whether she could truly trust what he said. After careful consideration, she allowed her foolishness to override her judgment and forgave him. But she made a promise to herself that he broke his word, she would never forgive him again.

“All right, just make sure to get your scheming ex out of the house tonight.” She conceded, nodding her head. Jarred’s relief was evident as he pulled her into a hug, grateful that Celene was easily fooled. He knew she only brought up the idea of divorce to threaten him, but he also knew she would never actually go through with it because she was deeply in love with him.

Since that day, their relationship slowly but steadily improved. Agnes didn’t even protest when leaving the house, which surprised Celene and made her feel that something was wrong. However, she didn’t dwell on it too much. At least, until she came back from her business trip and saw Agnes’ suitcase outside their bedroom.

To make matters worse, Celene could hear Agnes’ moans echoing through the door as she called out Jarred’s name, causing her heart to break at the realization of what was happening inside.

“Caius, come here.” Celene said, her voice a little wary as she looked at Jarred. His appearance might have changed since he grew a beard but she knew very well, it was her ex-husband.Celene’s heart was racing as she watched Jarred approaching her with Caius by his side. She couldn’t believe that after all these years, fate had brought them together again.“Give me my son, Jarred.” She frowned, fearing that he might do something to her son. However, to her surprise, Jarred urged Caius to come closer to his mother.“Mama!” He hugged her and Celene felt a sense of relief now that her son was in her arms.“Why did you leave the school?” she asked, brushing his hair away from his forehead. He didn’t seem to be hurt and that alone was enough to calm her racing heart.“I’m sorry, Mama. I saw a cotton candy outside and I wanted some. So, I followed it and…” Caius trailed off as he stared down at the ground, knowing what he did was wrong.“He almost got hit by a motorcycle..” Jarred’s interr

5 YEARS LATER...“Mhhhn, what are you doing?” Celene murmured, her eyes still shut as she felt Noah's lips making a trail of kisses down her shoulder. Gradually, she opened her eyes and turned towards him to see his face sporting a playful expression in the early morning light, “Why are you acting like this?”“I want to have a second baby,” he said as he kissed her neck, but then, their door suddenly burst open, causing him to quickly sit up with an innocent smile as their son Caius entered the room, as he did every morning.“Good morning, Mama and Papa!”With a cheerful grin on his face, he skipped over to the bed clutching his beloved dinosaur stuffed animal. He then happily crawled in between his parents and snuggled up close, giggling with joy.“Good morning, silly boy. We told you to knock before opening the door.” Celene playfully wiggled her nose, causing their four-year-old son to burst into a fit of giggles. Meanwhile, Noah’s face fell into a pout as he once again failed to b

“MOM, DAD.” Celene's eyes brightened when her parents visited her in the hospital, “Is it fine for you to be here? You should be resting.”“I already told him that, but he refused to listen to me.” Isabelle shook her head, determined to stay strong. But as she looked into her daughter’s eyes, tears began welling up her eyes. Seeing her in person after watching the news last night gave her a sense of relief that she was still alive.“I’m sorry for worrying you.” Celene’s lips tightened as she regretted putting her parents through unnecessary worry. She could only imagine how they must have felt when they saw the news.According to Noah, there was a frenzy of media attention outside the hospital last night. Thankfully, her cousin Ash was able to handle the situation and released a brief statement confirming that Salvatore’s CEO and Noah De Laruente’s wife were safe and in recovery.“What are you saying? Don’t apologize.” With a sniffle, Isabelle reached out and carefully embraced her da

SHOUTS AND GUNSHOTS echoed through the abandoned building, causing confusion and panic among Agnes and her ex-husband’s men. Celene’s heart started pounding harder, wondering if this was finally the police coming to save her. However, the noises were quickly followed by a loud explosion that shook the entire building. Dust and debris rained down on them as Celene felt herself being pulled away by one of the men.“Time to leave,” Agnes’ ex-husband shouted over the chaos, causing the gunmen to cut the rope on Celene’s feet and drag her along with him as they made their way out of the room.“No!” She yelled, her adrenaline making her struggle despite the weakness in her body. But her cries were drowned out by the chaos around her.As they emerged from the building, Celene saw that it was surrounded by a group of heavily armed police officers, there were also people from the media. She couldn’t believe her luck—she had finally been rescued. But her relief was short-lived as Agnes’ ex-husb

  • The Hidden Heiress's Remarriage   71: Held Captive

THE NOISE and pounding headache woke Celene up; she winced, trying to open her eyes, only to find that she was held captive; she was sitting on a wooden chair, her feet and wrists were tightly bound with ropes, digging into her skin and making it difficult for her to move.As her vision slowly cleared, she took in her surroundings and realized she was inside a large, abandoned construction building. There were a few gunmen around, some of them were playing cards, and some were talking while smoking.None of them had realized that she was already awake, and she couldn’t help but look at her belly, scared that she might miscarry if these men were to harm her. But what worried her the most was Noah; he was bleeding heavily after their car was hit earlier. Not only that but Martin was shot too before she lost consciousness earlier. The thought that something might happen to her added to her concern. However, her mind was immediately snapped back to the present when one of the gunmen appro

  • The Hidden Heiress's Remarriage   70: Pregnancy and Danger

“W-WHAT?” Celene stumbled over her words, her eyes widening in shock as she struggled to comprehend what her mother had just said. She then gazed down at her belly, the idea of a tiny human growing inside her filling her with overwhelming joy and anticipation.“Did the scent of food make you feel sick? It was just like that for me when I was pregnant with you. Even though my favorite dish was right in front of me, I couldn’t stomach the smell.” Isabelle explained, “But just to make sure, you and Noah should visit the hospital.”“Hospital? Why?” Noah asked when he suddenly appeared as the two women exited the bathroom. His face was filled with concern as he looked at Celene, who seemed lost in thought. “Are you not feeling well? Last night you felt dizzy and now...”Noah’s sentence was cut short as he noticed the signs his wife was displaying and remembered his mother-in-law’s question about Celene’s possible pregnancy. As everything clicked into place, his heart began to race with rea

“WHAT TO DO? Our enemy’s bigger than we thought.” Celene couldn’t help but let out a sigh, finding it hard to believe that Agnes’ ex-husband was involved with the syndicate. The thought alone brought on more stress for her.“The police can handle it; I’m sure they’ll be able to find that woman regardless of who’s behind her,” Noah tried to reassure her, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that even the police wouldn’t be able to find her. It had been weeks, and yet, there was still no trace of her.“Should we just trick her to show up? I have a feeling she’s been watching my every moveShe’s just waiting to strike since I always have Martin on my side.” Celene suggested, “What if I make myself a bait so we can—”“No,” Noah frowned as he closed the book he was reading and placed it on the nightstand, his eyes focused on Celene who was leaning against the headboard of their bed with a look of concern on her face. “Let the police handle her, let’s just give them more time.”“It’s been wee

“IT’S REALLY HER,” Celene’s eyes were fixed on the screen of Noah’s laptop, her attention fully captured. Despite Agnes wearing the cafe’s uniform and a cap, her face was still easily identifiable. The security camera footage captured her adding a few drops of liquid from a small vial into the coffee while the barista was distracted, talking to the manager. As soon as she finished, the barista returned his attention to his task and placed the lid on the cup, completely unaware that Agnes had tampered with it.“That fucking bitch.” Celene clenched her jaw in frustration. She couldn’t believe how effortlessly Agnes could do such wicked deeds as if it was child’s play. She let out a deep sigh and took her phone, trying to call someone. “I’m just going to make the call.”Noah gave a small nod and followed her with his eyes as she made her way to the balcony. His hands then clenched into fists when he kept his focus on the CCTV footage again. It was baffling how that woman knew about his r

CELENE put the finishing touches on the table, making sure everything was perfect for their date at home. Snacks, drinks, and a movie were all carefully arranged. All that was left was for Noah to come down after showering. After ensuring that everything was in order, she settled onto the couch. But before she could get comfortable, the doorbell rang, causing Celene to stand and make her way to the door. She then looked at the intercom screen and noticed it was Noah’s secretary requesting entry. With a quick hum, she opened the door to let him in.“Good afternoon, Ma’am Celene.” He greeted her, and she responded warmly before inviting him into the house.“Are you here to bring Noah’s phone?” she asked.“Yes, Ma’am... Also to give him the copy of the CCTV footage at the cafe yesterday.” Celene’s finger twitched a little, and the frustration she had felt yesterday came back to her.“I see, have a seat first. Would you like a drink? Perhaps some snacks?” she asked, but the secretary poli
