Chapter 3

Author: Hunk Alert
Jeffrey acted like he had just heard the funniest joke in the world. Then, he pulled a marriage certificate from his briefcase, contemptuously hurling it at my face.

"Take a good look! Now, who's the real homewrecker here?!"

I picked up the document from the floor and opened it. Sure enough, it was their marriage certificate.

My mind went blank.

Melanie spoke with smug satisfaction. "That's right. The marriage certificate I had with you was fake. I only did it to keep you loyal and hardworking, so you'd earn more money for me. Now that the company's on track, and I've got Jeffrey to back me up, you're useless."

Her tone even carried a hint of relief as she continued, "Everything I own has nothing to do with you. You can get out now."

I wanted nothing more than to tear this shameless pair apart. Nonetheless, I forced down my rage and looked at Melanie.

I spoke slowly, deliberately, "Fine, the marriage was fake. But my shares in the company are real, aren't they? I'm also a shareholder in this company. If you want me gone, then cash out my shares and give me what I'm owed."

Considering my percentage of ownership, if I were to leave, Melanie's company would take a significant hit.

However, Melanie raised an eyebrow and laughed mockingly. "Shares? Who said you have any shares? Kieran, are you dumb? Those documents were all fake! I tricked you into signing them just to mess with you."

Then, she pulled out a set of keys and tossed them onto the floor. "But since you've worked like a mule for me all these years, I'll be generous. That old, crappy house we ‘bought' when we faked the marriage? Take it as your severance package. Now get lost."

I nodded slowly. "Fine. Just great."

I turned, ready to walk away from this place that made me sick to my stomach.

"Wait!" Melanie suddenly called out to me.

She added, "Hand over that multi-million dollar deal you're currently negotiating to Jeffrey. And leave all the client files you have as well. Otherwise, I'll sue you for stealing company trade secrets and have you thrown in prison!"

I had no desire to get tangled up with them any longer.

I pulled a flash drive from my briefcase and tossed it over my shoulder without looking back. Jeffrey and the sales team erupted in thunderous cheers, as if my departure would instantly shower them with riches.

They had no idea that without my personal involvement, those clients would never do business with the company.

I watched the celebrating crowd and took one last look at Melanie. "I hope your company goes bankrupt real soon, Melanie."

Then, I turned to Jeffrey. "A talentless fraud like you calling yourself a sales director? Just wait. You'll run this company straight into the ground."

Jeffrey quickly put on a self-righteous expression and wrapped an arm around Melanie's shoulders. He said with false sympathy, "Don't be mad, Melanie. He's just upset about getting fired and talking nonsense."

Melanie looked at me with pure arrogance and hissed, "Kieran, you're just jealous! Jeffrey is a hundred times more capable than you! Everyone here will see soon enough what a real top closer looks like!"

I laughed.

That was fine by me. I wanted to see how this useless parasite she had hired at top dollar would ever become the future sales champion.

After that disastrous dinner, Melanie's company fell apart. Losing Steve, their biggest client, caused the company's cash flow to dry up instantly. They could not pay employee salaries, so everyone quit. Before long, suppliers showed up, demanding payment and blocked the entrance. In just one short month, the company I poured my heart and soul into building declared bankruptcy.Meanwhile, Fiona and I were crushing it at Everise Group. We broke into the global top 100 corporations, and the future looked brighter than ever.Every day I woke up energized, enjoying the immense satisfaction that came with professional success. When I drove past Melanie's now-defunct company, the sign had been taken down, leaving the place looking utterly desolate. The shutters were locked tight, with only a few persistent creditors camped out waiting for their money.I had not expected to see Melanie rush out from a convenience store across the street. She threw herself in front of my car like a mania

Steve's face was dark with fury, yet his professional restraint kept him from storming out immediately. He looked at Melanie with a forced smile and said, "Ms. Gardner, your company's employees are...amusing."Melanie completely missed the sarcasm in Steve's polite remark. She actually thought Steve was complimenting their company culture! She immediately plastered on a smile and replied, "Yes, Mr. Fletcher! At our company, we usually eat casual food together, just like one big family. The atmosphere is super relaxed."Rosalie was even more clueless about reading the room. She started digging into the food herself while running her mouth without a filter."You have no idea, Mr. Fletcher! Our company can barely afford to pay base salaries anymore. Ms. Gardner said we needed to cut costs, so I carefully selected these dishes. I read online that big shots like you who are used to fancy food actually prefer 'comfort food'.., If you like what we ordered, maybe you could give us another

Just as I reached the restaurant entrance, I saw Steve's car pulling in, too. I was about to walk over and greet him when Rosalie rushed forward like a guard dog protecting her food and shoved me aside."Stay away, you lowlife!" she snapped, glaring at me with pure hostility.Steve's brow furrowed with displeasure. I gave him a helpless smile, gesturing that it was fine.Rosalie was oblivious to Steve's expression. Instead, she led him fawningly into the main dining area, where she found them a table. It was ridiculous. After all, who the hell discusses business deals in the open dining hall instead of booking a private room?A rookie move, unfortunately. The next second, I spotted Melanie and Jeffrey arriving fashionably late. They walked straight to Steve's table and sat down without any greetings.Melanie turned to Rosalie and barked arrogantly, "Rosalie, go order us something. We're going to have a proper business talk with Mr. Fletcher."I saw Steve reach for the menu, the

After seeing Steve off, I realized I had a bit too much to drink, and my head was spinning. I headed back to that so-called marital home. When I got to the door, though? I found an unexpected visitor waiting for me.Melanie stood there in full makeup, looking perfectly put together. When she saw me, her eyes lit up and she rushed over immediately. Her face was the picture of wounded innocence, with tears pooling in her eyes, ready to spill over at any moment."Kieran, do you not love me anymore? Why couldn't you at least leave me some dignity at dinner? You used to be the one who loved me the most." Her performance gave me nothing but nausea. I let out a cold laugh and shot back, "Love you? When you slapped me in front of the entire company for your precious childhood friend, did you think about saving my dignity? When you tricked me with a fake marriage certificate and played me for a fool, did you think about how much that hurt?"Seeing that reasoning was not getting her anywhe

That day, my longtime client, Steve Fletcher, invited me to dinner. He was the biggest buyer in our industry, and one order from him was enough to keep more than half of Melanie's company afloat. When he heard I had moved to Everise Group, he immediately terminated all contracts with Melanie's company. Then, he himself called me to set up this dinner meeting so we could sign an even bigger contract. It was the same multi-million dollar deal Melanie had been bragging about outside Everise Group's doors.Steve and I were having a great conversation in the private dining room. After a few rounds of drinks, we had hammered out most of the contract details.Just then, the door to the room was violently shoved open with a bang.Melanie and Jeffrey burst in, their faces twisted with fury. From the looks of it, they had been having a rough time lately.Melanie had dark circles under her eyes, and her face had lost all its former radiance. Jeffrey looked haggard too, with messy, unkempt ha

I smiled calmly and said, "Ms. Gardner, Mr. Young, that's rich–coming from you two. Didn't you once say that whoever the company gives resources to becomes the top seller?"I added, "I'm just a useless piece of trash, a discarded pawn you kicked to the curb. Now that I'm gone, what threat could I be to you? Why are you both so nervous?" My words made Melanie's and Jeffrey's faces turn a deep shade of red. That was when Fiona stepped forward. She was tall and poised, her presence alone enough to make Melanie's arrogance fade a little."Ms. Gardner, I'm currently hosting a welcome ceremony for Everise Group's new CEO. Are you here to offer congratulations? If you're here to cause trouble, then I'm sorry."Fiona smiled slightly and gestured toward the entrance where a row of tall, imposing security guards in black suits stood at attention. She said, "My security team is the best money can buy. After all, I'm not like you, Ms. Gardner. I don't have such poor judgment that I'd mistake
