LOGINCHAPTER TEN
POV: Damon I drove back to the pack house at dangerous speeds, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned pale, while pure fury burned through every single bone in my body over the lie my father had kept from me for five long years. I slammed my car door shut, marched up the front steps, and stormed right into my father’s main office on the second floor, slamming the door behind me so hard that the glass frame on the wall rattled loudly against the paint. My father was sitting behind his main desk reviewing financial papers, and he didn't even flinch when the door slammed, slowly lifting his head to glare at me with annoyance in his eyes. "What is the meaning of this dramatic entrance, Damon?" my father asked, setting his pen down on the table while he crossed his arms over his chest. "I am in the middle of preparing our quarterly budget reports, so whatever hockey drama you have going on can wait until dinner." "You lied to me!" I shouted, taking massive steps toward his desk and slamming both of my palms flat onto the table, leaning over until I was staring straight into his cold eyes. "You looked me in the eye five years ago and told me Raina was dead, you let me live in absolute hell believing she was murdered in that cabin, and she just walked into the league building fully alive!" My father didn't show a single trace of fear or surprise on his face, slowly leaning back in his chair while his expression remained completely calm and unbothered by my anger. "Sit down and lower your voice right now, Damon," my father said, pointing his finger at the chair across from his desk while his voice turned stern. "I am not sitting down, and I am not lowering my voice!" I yelled, my jaw tight while my fists balled up at my sides again. "She is alive, Father, and she didn't come back alone because she has twin four-year-old children with her, and those children carry my exact eyes and my wolf energy!" "So the wolfless girl managed to survive her little accident," my father said, letting out a short, cold laugh while he picked up his pen again to write a note on his paper. "I must admit I am slightly surprised she made it out of the woods that night, but it changes absolutely nothing about our plans for this family." "Changes nothing?" I asked, my voice breaking as I stared at him in absolute shock over how heartless he sounded. "She was carrying my children when your guards attacked that cabin, Father, and you lied to your own son for five years so I would stay obedient to your team!" "I told you what you needed to hear so you would focus on your hockey career and keep this family at the top of the territory," my father said, standing up from his chair and stepping around the desk to stand right in front of me. "Raina’s return is a calculated move to ruin our family name, steal our fans, and destroy our hockey team right before the championship season starts." "She didn't come back to steal fans, Father, she came back because you tried to kill her!" I growled, taking a step toward him while my inner wolf snarled deep in my chest. "Listen to yourself, Damon!" my father barked, his voice booming through the office while he grabbed my arm with a firm grip. "She walked into the league building with a rich business partner and bought out our rival franchise, and now she is using those children to manipulate your feelings so you play poorly on the ice." "Don't you dare talk about my children like they are some kind of game to manipulate me," I warned, shoving his hand off my arm with enough force to make him step back against his desk. "They are a distraction, Damon, and you are acting like a fool over a girl who doesn't even want you back," my father said, fixing his jacket while his eyes narrowed at me. "I order you to stay focused on winning the upcoming exhibition match against her franchise, because if we lose that game, the sponsors will pull their money and hand it straight over to her." "I don't care about your sponsors, and I don't care about your money anymore," I said, backing toward the office door while keeping my eyes locked on his face. "I am going to find out every single detail of what really happened the night she was attacked in that cabin, and if I discover that you personally ordered your guards to kill my mate and my unborn babies, I will tear this pack empire down myself." "You will do no such thing, because you are the captain of my team and the heir to this pack!" my father shouted, taking a fast step forward, but I turned my back on him, yanked the door open, and walked out into the hallway, slamming it behind me for the second time. I marched down the stairs and walked out into the cool evening air, my breathing heavy while my head spun with pure hatred for the man who raised me. I got into my car and sat behind the wheel for a long time, staring at the front entrance of the pack house while my wolf growled continuously inside my mind. I knew in my heart that my father was never going to give me honest answers about the attack, which meant I had to track down Raina, get close to my children, and find out the whole truth directly from her. Inside the main office, Alpha Marcus stood by the window watching Damon's car speed down the long driveway toward the main road. His face turned dark and ruthless, and he walked back over to his desk, picking up his private phone and pressing the quick-dial button for his lead security guard. "Sir, how can I help you?" the guard's voice answered through the speaker line on the second ring. "Damon just found out that Raina is back in the territory, and he knows about the twin children," Marcus said, his tone turning ice-cold as he looked out at the empty driveway. "What are your orders, Alpha?" the guard asked, his voice instantly becoming serious over the phone. "I need you and three of our best men to put a tight watch on Raina's house in the city starting tonight," Marcus ordered, pacing slowly behind his desk. "Track her every move, find out where those children go to school, and figure out who her business partner really is, because if they try to use that new franchise to mess with our family position, we will handle it permanently this time."CHAPTER SIXTEEN POV: Raina I set the plate of chicken and rice down on the table in front of Raymond, but he immediately pushed the dish away with his small hands, crossing his arms over his chest while tears filled his golden eyes again. Ever since his wolf surge earlier in the afternoon, he had been cranky and restless, refusing to take a single bite of his food or sit properly in his chair despite every soft word of encouragement I offered him. Ruth was sitting beside him eating her carrots quietly, watching her brother throw a tantrum, while Reign stood near the kitchen counter reviewing team emails on his tablet. "Raymond, baby, you need to eat your dinner so you can get your energy back," I said, leaning down beside his chair and placing my hand gently on his small knee. "I don't want to eat, Mommy!" Raymond cried out, wiping his wet nose with his sleeve while he shook his head stubbornly. "I want the nice tall mister from across the street to come eat with us, because he f
CHAPTER FIFTEEN POV: Damon I was tossing my dark athletic bag into the back trunk of my car in the afternoon sun, getting ready to head back to the arena for our team film review session, when a sharp, terrified scream echoed straight across the quiet street from Raina’s front yard. I froze instantly on my driveway, dropping the bag onto the pavement without caring where it landed, and my inner wolf surged forward in my chest with an intense, overwhelming urge to protect my blood. I sprinted across the asphalt road in full strides, ignoring the traffic completely, and I threw my shoulder right against the latch of her front garden gate, crashing through the barrier without stopping for a single second to ask for permission. I rounded the corner of the brick porch and saw four-year-old Raymond lying on the green grass near the fence line, rolling on his side while crying hysterically and gripping his stomach with both of his little hands, his small chest heaving violently with fast,
CHAPTER FOURTEEN POV: Raina I walked through the player tunnel of the main city arena at six o'clock in the morning, holding my clipboard tight against my side while my team's head coach walked right beside me, ready to oversee our very first official practice session on the main rink. Reign had spent three hours on the phone with the league directors yesterday securing our designated ice time, so I expected to find an empty rink waiting for my players to stretch and run drills, but as we rounded the final corner of the concrete hallway, the loud sound of skates cutting across the ice echoed through the air. I stepped through the double doors into the main arena area, and my temper flared instantly when I looked out onto the rink and saw the entire Frostvale hockey team skating in circles, shooting pucks at the net like they owned the place. Damon was standing near the center line in his full hockey jersey and helmet, blowing his whistle to call his players into a tight circle, co
CHAPTER THIRTEEN POV: Mira I gripped my steering wheel tightly as I turned my sports car onto the quiet city street, completely annoyed after learning from Ethan last night that Damon had stopped sleeping at the pack house altogether. I had bought a bag of warm breakfast items from his favorite cafe, intending to show up at his new front door unannounced so I could convince him to take me as his date to the upcoming league dinner. I pulled my car up to the curb right in front of Damon's new property, shutting off the engine and grabbing the paper bag off the passenger seat with a wide smile on my face. I stepped out onto the concrete pavement, smoothing down the front of my dress, but before I could take three steps toward his porch, my eyes caught movement across the quiet asphalt street. I turned my head to look, and my entire body went completely stiff as I froze in my tracks on the lawn, staring in utter disbelief as Raina walked down the opposite driveway holding hands with
CHAPTER TWELVE POV: Damon I sat outside on my front porch late at night, staring directly across the quiet street at the brightly lit windows of Raina's house, and the heavy regret in my chest made it completely impossible for me to sleep. Every single choice I had made five years ago kept running through my head, from the public rejection at the ceremony to the way I let my father dictate my life, and watching the faint silhouettes of my children moving past the second-floor curtains filled me with a deep, aching sadness. I stayed sitting on that chair until the sun slowly began to rise over the neighborhood, lighting up the front yards, and I poured myself a cup of plain coffee while I kept my eyes fixed on her driveway. Around eight in the morning, the front door of Raina's house opened, and four-year-old Ruth walked out onto the front porch holding a small plastic dragon toy in her hands, while Raina stood just inside the open doorway talking loudly on her phone with Reign abo
CHAPTER ELEVEN POV: Raina I was carrying a light box of children's clothes from the front porch into the hallway of my new city home, feeling completely relieved to finally give Ruth and Raymond a quiet, secure life far away from the Frostvale pack territory. Reign was in the kitchen setting up our internet connection while the kids played with their plastic blocks in the living room, and everything felt completely peaceful until I heard the heavy rumble of a large truck pulling up outside. I set the box down on the floor, wiped my hands on my jeans, and walked out onto the front porch to see who was moving into the empty property directly across the quiet street. A massive moving truck backed into the opposite driveway, followed immediately by a sleek black SUV, and my blood ran completely cold the moment the driver's side door opened and Damon stepped out onto the pavement. He was wearing plain sports clothes, and he walked around to the back of the SUV, opening the trunk and gra
